Ohio shoots less than 23 percent in blowout loss

Eagles' zone defense gives Bobcats fits


YPSILANTI, Mich. - Ohio shot just 22.8 percent, including 16.1 percent in the first half, and was blown out 76-40 by Eastern Michigan on Tuesday night at the Eagles' Convocation Center.

Antonio Campbell had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats (7-11, 2-5 Mid-American Conference). No other Ohio player had more than seven points, and take out Campbell's 7-of-17 shooting, and the rest of the team was 6-of-40 (15 percent).

Leading scorer Maurice Ndour, coming off a 31-point effort, finished with only four points on 1-of-7 shooting, and second-leading scorer Javarez Willis went 1-of-8 for three points. Ohio was 2-of-19 on 3-pointers and finished with 18 turnovers.

Raven Lee paced the Eagles (13-7, 2-5 MAC) with 19 points, Mike Talley scored 16 points and Karrington Ward finished with 12 points. Eastern Michigan shot 50 percent.

Despite Ohio's offensive struggles, it stayed close early, trailing 18-10 after a Mike Laster jumper with 9:20 left in the first half. Stevie Taylor had a steal and a layup that kept the Bobcats within 10 with 5:22 remaining.

Then things got really ugly. The Eagles scored nine straight points and eventually took a 31-16 halftime lead. Leading 41-22, Eastern Michigan went on a 13-2 run to push its lead to 30 midway through the second half. It also scored the final eight points of the game.

Ndour had nine rebounds to back Campbell on the boards. Olalekan Ajayi recorded 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes for Eastern Michigan, and Talley finished with seven assists.

Ohio travels to Central Michigan to play the Chippewas at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
