Bradshaw scores 42, hits game-winner for Belmont

Willis leads Ohio in loss with 25 points

ATHENS - Craig Bradshaw scored with one second left and Belmont took an 83-81 victory against Ohio on Saturday night at The Convo.

The basket came after Javarez Willis tied the game with a bucket with six seconds remaining.

The Bobcats (2-2) had no answer all night long for Bradshaw, who finished with 42 points. Willis scored 25 points for Ohio.

Maurice Ndour's dunk with 53 seconds left gave Ohio a 79-77 lead, but Nick Smith turned the advantage back to the Bruins (6-1) with a 3-pointer with 32 seconds to go. After Willis missed, Holden Mobley split two free throws with 16 seconds remaining, setting up Willis' tying basket.

Neither team led by more than two after Smith hit a 3-pointer that tied the game at 65 with 6:20 remaining, and it was a one-possession game the rest of the way after a pair of Wadley Mompremier free throws with 16:50 remaining.

After a slow start to the season, Stevie Taylor had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists for Ohio. Ryan Taylor added 16 points - including 12 in the second half - and five boards, while Ndour was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. He scored all but two of his points in the final 2:40. Antonio Campbell had nine points and nine boards.

All 10 of Smith's attempts were 3-pointers, and he hit half of them for 15 points. Bradshaw connected on 8-of-12 3-point tries. The two combined for all but seven of Belmont's 39 second-half points.

Evan Bradds, who originally committed to Ohio, scored 10 points and had a team-best seven rebounds for the Bruins.

While the game was tight the entire second half, Belmont held a double-digit lead in the first half. It opened up a 15-5 lead in the first five minutes, and after Ohio got as close as four, the Bruins maxed out their lead at 30-19 midway through the half on a Bradshaw jumper.

Ohio used a 12-0 run to turn a nine-point deficit into a three-point lead, and the Bobcats biggest lead was 41-37 on a Willis 3-pointer at the 2:20 mark. The Bruins, though, scored the final seven points of the half to regain the lead.

The Bobcats were extremely efficient in the game, committing only two turnovers and shooting 49.3 percent. But Ohio could not match Belmont's touch from the outside, hitting 9-of-28 attempts (32.1 percent).

Belmont made 50.9 percent of its attempts and had only seven turnovers. It was 14-of-30 from long range.

Ohio hosts St. Bonaventure at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Convo.
