Kellogg's 3-pointer gives Ohio overtime win at Richmond

Bobcats rally from 10-point second-half deficit

RICHMOND, Va. – Nick Kellogg’s 3-pointer with nine seconds left in overtime gave Ohio a 70-69 victory against Richmond on Sunday at the Robins Center.

Ohio (8-3) trailed by 10 early in the second half, rallied to take the lead but Kendall Anthony’s jumper with 22 seconds left in regulation tied the game and Kellogg missed a jumper at the buzzer.

Maurice Ndour led the Bobcats with 19 points and seven rebounds. Kellogg and Ricardo Johnson finished with 14 points apiece.

Cedrick Lindsay led the Spiders (8-4) with 23 points but missed a floater in the final seconds of overtime. Anthony scored 17 points.

Ndour scored in the paint on a goaltend call to give Ohio a 67-65 advantage with less than two minutes left in the extra period, but Lindsey answered in the paint on the other end and then hit a jumper with 32 seconds left to give the Spiders the lead.

With 46 seconds left in regulation, Ndour threw down a dunk on a feed from Kellogg to give Ohio a 60-57 advantage. Anthony hit two free throws with 40 seconds left, and after Johnson split a pair at the line, Anthony’s jumper tied the game at 61.

Leading 42-38 at the break, Richmond scored the first six points of overtime to take a 10-point edge, but Ohio came back with 12 in a row, holding the Spiders scoreless for more than nine minutes.

Jon Smith’s tip-in tied the game at 48 and a Kellogg fastbreak layup put the Bobcats on top with 9:02 remaining. Lindsay finally hit a jumper in the paint to break the Richmond scoreless streak. Neither team led by more than two the rest of the way until Ndour’s dunk in the final minute.

Ohio had an early 10-6 lead on a Stevie Taylor 3-pointer, but Richmond followed with a 14-2 run to take a 20-12 advantage on a Trey Davis layup midway through the first half. Derrick Williams hit a free throw at the 8:28 mark for Richmond’s biggest lead of 10, but the Bobcats slowly closed the gap to four by halftime.

The Bobcats made their first five 3-point attempts of the game but missed six in a row before Kellogg’s game winner. They finished 26 of 56 (46.4 percent) overall from the field and 12 of 17 (70.6 percent) from the foul line.

Richmond was hurt by a 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) free throw performance, which include a 3-of-7 game from Lindsay, who came in shooting 75 percent. The Spiders were 25 of 51 (49 percent) from the field, including 5 of 17 (29.4 percent) from beyond the arc.

Ohio had a slight, 34-33, edge on the boards with Smith pulling down nine and Ndour seven. The Bobcats had more turnovers, 18-16. Lindsay had seven of those turnovers for the Spiders, along with five assists.
