Campbell's, Dartis' hot shooting lead Bobcats to blowout win

Ohio knocks down 14 3-pointers in 94-75 victory at Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Led by Antonio Campbell and Jordan Dartis, Ohio knocked down 14 3-pointers and blew out Buffalo, 94-75, on Friday night at Alumni Arena.

Campbell hit 4 of 5 3-pointers and scored 28 points, to go along with 15 rebounds, and Dartis was 7 of 10 from long range, finishing with 23 points.

Jaaron Simmons added 13 points, six assists and six rebounds, and Treg Setty finished with 10 points for Ohio (16-8, 7-5 Mid-American Conference).

Freshman CJ Massinburg’s 36 points were not nearly enough for Buffalo (14-11, 7-5 MAC). Willie Conner and David Kadri finished with 10 and nine points, respectively.

The Bobcats ran out to a 15-5 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back. The Bulls stayed close until a 10-0 Ohio run turned a 23-16 lead into a 17-point advantage for the Bobcats with 6:28 left in the first half.

Later in the half, a Dartis 3-pointer and then a Campbell bucket inside made it 41-20 in favor of Ohio, and the Bobcats eventually took a 44-28 lead into the locker room.

"I just felt pretty good,” Campbell said. “I played good last game against Ball State, and I think it carried over into practice and carried over into this game."

Buffalo got as close as 13 in the opening minute of the second half, but Simmons hit a jumper and Dartis a 3-pointer to extend Ohio’s lead again.

"I'm surprised at how composed (Dartis) is at all times,” Ohio coach Saul Phillips said. “The moment never seems too big for him. He just went out there and played."

After Willie Conner hit a pair of free throws to make it 53-37, Ohio went on another 10-0 run that included 3-pointers by Campbell and Dartis and 2-pointers by Simmons and Gavin Block. The Bobcats led 63-37 with 15:24 to go.

Ohio matched its 26-point lead at 67-41 and 75-49 and then went up by 28 on a 3-pointer by Block and then a Block steal and layup that made it 80-52 midway through the half. Block finished with seven points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals.

A Setty bucket a minute later maxed out the Bobcats’ advantage at 82-52.

Buffalo had a late 8-0 run to make the final margin closer.

The Bobcats shot 62.5 percent from the field in the second half and 53.7 percent overall, including 14 of 25 on 3-pointers. The Bulls shot 43.1 percent and got to the foul line plenty, going 20 of 28, but were only 5 of 19 from deep.

It was Ohio’s fifth win in the last six games after it had lost four of six to start MAC play.

The Bobcats host Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Convo.
