Ohio comes up big late to hand Miami first MAC loss

Bobcats move into first-place tie

ATHENS – Rodney Harris II caught a go-ahead 49-yard touchdown pass from Parker Navarro with 2:15 remaining, and Jalen Thomeson intercepted Dequan Finn on the ensuing possession as Ohio earned a share of first place in the Mid-American Conference with a 24-20 victory against Miami on Tuesday night at Peden Stadium.

Sieh Bangura had a touchdown run and also returned a kickoff for a score as the Bobcats (6-3, 4-1 MAC) remained undefeated at home this season and improved to 22-1 over the past four seasons since dedicating Frank Solich Field. The Bobcats led by seven at halftime and held an advantage throughout most of the second half, but the Red Wolves were best when it mattered most, down the stretch. They went up 77-75 on a pair of Joey Chammaa free throws with 3:54 left and held the lead from there.

That allowed them to withstand a career night from Aidan Hadaway, who scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Bobcats. Jackson Paveletzke added 16 points, and Javan Simmons had 14 points.

Chammaa, off the bench, and Chandler Jackson both scored 21 points for Arkansas State.

"It's a growth process for us,” Ohio coach Jeff... <Read More>
