Marshall scores final 12 points to rally

Herd hit three 3-pointers to erase 7-point deficit


ATHENS – Marshall scored the final 12 points to rally past Ohio 74-69 on Saturday at The Convo.

The Bobcats (5-4) took a 69-62 lead on an AJ Clayton layup with 2:11 remaining but did not score again after that.

Kamdyn Curfman and Cameron Crawford hit back-to-back 3-pointers for the Thundering Herd (3-6) to cut their deficit to one. The Bobcats missed two shots on their next possession, and Marshall struck from deep again. This time, Obinna Anochili-Killen hit the go-ahead shot to make it 71-69 with 22 seconds to play.

Cold shooting plagues Ohio in loss to Youngstown State

Bobcats make just 28.1% of shots in 1st half


ATHENS – Ohio could not overcome a slow offensive start and suffered a rare home loss, 78-72, against Youngstown State on Wednesday night at The Convo.

The Bobcats shot 39.7% overall after making only 28.1% of their attempts in the first half when they fell behind 31-28. The Penguins pushed their lead to 66-54 with 2:14 remaining, and Ohio was able to get no closer than the final margin.

Shareef Mitchell led the Bobcats (5-3) with 17 points, while Aidan Hadaway came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points. Elmore James had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Jaylin Hunter finished with 13 points and five assists.

Ohio rallies past Delaware 74-73

Hunter scores go-ahead layup with 31 seconds left


ATHENS – Trailing most of the game, Ohio rallied past Delaware, with Jaylin Hunter scoring the go-ahead layup with 31 seconds left in a 74-73 victory Saturday at The Convo.

Hunter’s basket gave the Bobcats their first lead since it was 17-16 with more than 10 minutes left in the first half. He was one of four Ohio players in double figures, finishing with 15 points on the day.

Elmore James led all players with 21 points. His baseline reverse layup with 1:26 got the Bobcats (5-2) to within one. AJ Clayton, who had 10 points, five rebounds and five blocks, swatted away a Delaware shot, and then a jumper at the shot-block buzzer was airballed to set up the go-ahead score.

Mitchell, Hunter get help from James in Ohio win

Bobcats top Bears for 5th place in Bahamas


NASSAU, Bahamas – Shareef Mitchell and Jaylin Hunter continued to put up big numbers and got some help from Elmore James as Ohio topped Brown 82-77 for fifth place Sunday in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship at the Baha Mar Convention Center.

Mitchell scored 24 points, Hunter added 21 points, and Elmore James tallied 18 points for the Bobcats (4-2).

Ohio built a 38-29 lead and went up 58-39 on a James 3-point play, but Brown slowly worked its way back into it in the second half and had a chance late. Free throws by Nana Owusu-Anane made it 67-63 with 6:47 remaining.
