Arkansas State tops Ohio with FTs, 2nd-chance points

Hadaway's career-high 28 points not enough in 89-85 loss


ATHENS – Arkansas State took the lead in the final four minutes and topped Ohio in its basketball season opener 89-85 on Monday night at The Convo.

The Bobcats led by seven at halftime and held an advantage throughout most of the second half, but the Red Wolves were best when it mattered most, down the stretch. They went up 77-75 on a pair of Joey Chammaa free throws with 3:54 left and held the lead from there.

That allowed them to withstand a career night from Aidan Hadaway, who scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Bobcats. Jackson Paveletzke added 16 points, and Javan Simmons had 14 points.

Chammaa, off the bench, and Chandler Jackson both scored 21 points for Arkansas State.

Bobcats pick up first road win 28-21

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Ohio overcame a slow start and earned its first road win of the season, beating Eastern Michigan 28-21 on Saturday at Rynearson Stadium.

Intercepted twice in the first half, Parker Navarro threw for a career-high 315 yards and added a pair of touchdown passes to Chase Hendricks, who had his nation-leading sixth 100-yard game of the season, making 10 catches for 112 yards. Sieh Bangura reached 100 yards rushing on 18 carries and scored two second half touchdowns.

Ohio rolls to homecoming win over Northern Illinois

Both Bangura, Brune go over 100 yards rushing


ATHENS – Ohio bounced back big after two weeks off following its first Mid-American Conference loss and dominated Northern Illinois 48-21 in its homecoming game Saturday at Peden Stadium.

The Bobcats (4-3, 2-1 MAC) could not be stopped on offense, racking up 538 yards of offense, including 333 on the ground, with both Sieh Bangura (147 yards) and Duncan Brune (126 yards) going over 100 for the game.

Chase Hendericks also had 108 yards receiving on 10 catches, and Parker Navarro accounted for nearly 250 yards by going 17-of-23 passing for 250 yards and adding 43 more yards on the ground.
