Smith is the only backup they use. One completion in five attempts going into today. If Gabbert's done, MOFO's season is pretty much over.

It's hard to tell for sure, but it's probably a fracture, but I suppose it could be a really bad sprain or pull of some sort. The medical personnel are, of course, being very cautious, as they should be.

Hate to see it but that is part of the game. Safe to say he will not be back next week.

I hate to see this for any team. I want to play them at their best with all the pieces. Losing Rourke late last year was a low point for our team. Quick recovery is what we want for him

Miami still has one of the top defenses in the MAC and multiple threats at RB and WR, so yeah...still not going to be easy by any means.

I don’t recommend looking up the video, but you can see blood coming from his socks. I think bone broke through his skin.

Toledo pulls it out. Announcers were continually referring to the two teams as the best in the MAC. It’s up to us to change the narrative. There is no reason we can’t take Miami next week and Toledo in the championship game. It is entirely doable.

I did not see that angle. All I saw was his leg badly twisted under a UT player's leg.

A little complication is that even if we beat Miami and Buffalo loses to Toledo, we have to also beat Buffalo to win the east -assuming we both win the other games. It’s still a long way to go.

I think two weeks ago Vegas would have though of Ohio as the best team with Miami 3rd. I'll bet we have lost about 6 or 7 points of respect in the last two weeks. I would have though with home field we'd have been favored against Miami by about 6 two weeks ago. Miami has looked pretty good in the mean time, and I don't know anything about Aveon Smith, but losing Gabbert has to cost them at least a few points. Conceivably, more than a few but I don't know enough to say. We still will have to be at least a small favorite next week I would think even though we haven't looked good.

Toledo looks like the clear favorite again. Not just because they were the preseason favorite and look like the best team, but they already put themselves in a great place for winning the West.

Damn. I feel for Gabbert. He’s hurt a lot. All the talent in the world, with an unfortunate body.

Now that that’s out of the way - I hope he takes next week off.

I once worked with Tom Lichtenurg's niece. She went to MOFO. Nice person, anyway.

Aveon is the only one of the eight that has played a lick. Other than Saturday when he went in cold after Gabbert's injury only did mop up in maybe one game. Threw one pass then spent the rest of two series handing off to 3rd team halfback.

Won some games for us last year against mostly bad teams. Not very accurate (understatement!!!) but a real threat to take off and make something happen. Lot of grit and we'll see what happens with a full week running the 1st team knowing he's going to start. Reports were off season he got a lot better passing so we'll see come Saturday.

Will be at the game. Have senior Bobbie who will be recognized and won't miss it. Great kid and love him dearly.

In another post got blasted for using "Bobbies" as a Miami guy. My great nephew's dad uses the term all the time as term of endearment and I kind of like it. Great nephew never seems to mind.

Redchickens forever...Bobbies never. Love & Honor!

So Gabbert is done then? Haven't seen any updates.

Hate to see it. That's how our season get derailed last year, and still continuing the lingering effects into this year.

Strongly disagree with this take. It's a piece of horrible luck and likely makes winning the MACC out of reach, but the MAC East is abominable, the Bobcats look eminently beatable and Fiami has plenty of talent on the roster. At worst their season that's "over" could include a trip to Detroit and a bowl game.

Not dissimilar to our situation.

Boy don't we know how much a seasoned quarterback means to a team. Injuries run 100% in college and pro football.

Don't you mean "at best" they might get to Detroit? It seems the odds are against that now. In addition to an away game at OHIO, they have to play an improving UB squad (3-1 in MAC) at home.

Miami's signature win (Cincinnati) certainly not impressive at this point.
