Is Ohio's offense where we think it should be right now? Not quite. On the other hand, Iowa State has a very good defense, and Ohio controlled the ball for most of the clock against them. Ohio survived the non-conference schedule at 3-1. Could they have gone 4-0? Yes. Could they be 1-3? Yes. 3-1 is a very good start, and I'm not sure that any other MAC teams will match it other than Toledo. Well, also EMU, but they play two FCS games, so one won't count for bowls.

Now it's time to start the conference games. Will Ohio be able to average 30+ a game in MACtion? We'll find out soon enough. I personally thought that Rourke made some outstanding throws against ISU, and I think that against MAC defenses, he is going to put up some big numbers.

Yeah, I think every angle but that one is misleading and that angle it is almost impossible to miss the call.

Ohio played about as clean a game as possible. The OL gave up 0 sacks and gave Rourke plenty of time on most pass plays; the team had 1 penalty, late in the game I believe; and Ohio turned the ball over 0 times.

Noticed a lot of defensive substitutions late in the game with newcomers coming up big, including Kwame Sutton, Tristian Cox, and Kaci Seegars. Can't believe there's a better ILB duo in the MAC than Keye Thompson and Bryce Houston, 2 players that could have moved on after last season but were compelled to come back for one more year. Don't believe either one has taken off many plays this year, if any at all.

For the most part the ISU DB's blanketed OUr receivers today. But Rourke, who was protected in the pocket by his line, had several scrambles for nice gains due in part, I would think, because of the ISU tight coverage on our receivers.

The NCAA needs to put a laser or something at the top of uprights, with a light that goes on if the ball crosses the laser.

I'm not sold that FG is good. The angles of the camera can be extremely deceiving... That is why the referees are positioned where they are...

Not good from where I sat.

From the video angles it was impossible to tell, but the official call was immediate and there was no post play conference, so I'm guessing the officials were all in agreement. In any case, the "official" explanation was that the call was not reviewable since the kick was high over the uprights.

Whether the call was right or not is irrelevant. Unlike the notorious fifth down that CMU got vs Okla St a few years ago, this was a judgement call by the ref. In this case, the ref's judgement was that the kick was not good. End of story. It doesn't change the fact that Ohio played a helluva defensive game and deserves the win. They shut down ISU for 55 minutes and produced a 41-pt swing from last year's loss. And the offense managed to hold onto the ball for the first time this season Now let's hope they don't have a letdown vs BG next week.

I'm watching Fox 8 Cleveland news this Sunday morning, and the sports report showed the field goal attempt, with the reporter stating that the Ohio Bobcats were given a gift as the refs blew the call, then stating that ISU lost by three points. According to them, no doubt about it. I beg to differ, as has been discussed previously here.

I thought that the ISU DBs were playing lights out all day, even on the passes Rourke was completing. They were all over our receivers.

That defensive prowess was only exceeded by our front 7. I was worried about their RB leading up to this game...38 yards of team rushing. Who does that against a P5 opponent? I guess we do.

Just keep playing how they're playing and we'll be just fine.

I have watched the video multiple times, and it doesn't look good to me. I see plenty of pictures of the ESPN video frozen at the 18 second mark, where the ball is right of the upright (inside it), but the ball is clearly not to the upright yet. In fact, if you continue to watch the video, at the 18.5 second mark, the ball is actually behind the upright, so that picture frozen at 18 seconds was clearly too early. As you get closer to the 19 second mark, the ball is above the upright, then by 19 seconds, it is to the left of the upright. At what point in time was the ball at the plane of the upright? On a 2-dimensional shot, there is no way to know for sure. My best guess is that it was at the 19 second mark, when the ball is clearly to the left of the upright (outside). At best it could have been a shade earlier, and the ball could have traveled directly over the upright, in which case I'm not sure if it should be ruled good or not. The one thing I can say for sure is that the photo you see with the ball to the right of the upright is deceptive, because the ball clearly is behind the upright a split second later, so it was not at the plane of the upright at the time of that frozen frame.

The referee did not hesitate. He watched the ball, then decisively made his call. I have no reason to question it, and the video certainly does not give me a reason to think he was incorrect. At best, the video shows that it was a very close call.
