Saw on another thread where somebody hinted Wilson might be out until January? Surely, somebody knows something. Up to this point, no word on whatever injury he has. Huge blow obviously to start the season if true.

Looks like we can put that debate to bed of whether or not Jason Carter will start this year...

Hope DW3's recovering well.

My son tore his ACL and had surgery in July of 2020. When we talked to the surgeon about what performance benchmarks he needs to meet to get back on the court he said there aren't any benchmarks. He said the sooner you are back on the court the more likely you are to re-tear it. He recommended 12 months before my son played a competitive game again. But he said you could actually play as soon as 6 months if you are willing to roll the dice (He did say he would strongly advise against it). He said when a player is willing to come back all depends on their situation. Not sure what Dwight's timeline is but I can't imagine we'll see him on the court until January at the earliest.

On Russ’s Twitter page, sounds like we will get more info on it in tomorrow’s 2nd installment of his interview with Coach Boals. Granted, losing Dwight for however long is a pretty big hit but, if there was one area that we had a bit of depth… Jason will just have to play more and, we will see who takes advantage of backing him up while Dwight recovers. This actually will help for next year when our big starters leave.
My bigger concern now is, who else is not going to play…

GO BOBCATS!

Edit: Switched Russ to Coach Boals.

Can Granger/Towns hold their own vs bigs like Muzinski (sp?) from Belmont and the highly touted bigs from Kentucky and LSU?

Oh well, maybe Wilson can be 100% recovered by MAC games.

This is a massive blow.

Even if DW3 can get back on the court for MAC games, he's not going to be 100%. You look at lots of guys who come back from ACL's and inevitably it's 12 months minimum before they regain their explosion/burst.

Means we've seen the last of a 100% fully healthy Dwight in a Bobcat uniform.

Also means the slim chances we had of beating the Kentucky's and LSU's of the world in order to make an at-large case are now likely gone. Not going to compete with the big boys without all our big boys (literally). Really sucks. The season will, yet again, come down to one week in March.

I am by no means saying we will beat Kentucky, Belmont or LSU, who all have amazing big men -- but it was not going to come down to DW3 against a guy like Muszinski anyways. That dude is a legit NBA Draft pick. It will come down to guard play and having enough bangers to get the job done inside. Boals said in Blue Ribbon that a lot is expected of Granger this year. And who knows what Clayton and Ezuma can do? I have a feeling they're both upgrades over Mason McMurray (no disrespect, loved his energy). Plus Carter+BVP is more than enough to play down low as well.

ACL Surgery in the summer? I don't see how he will play at all this season. Sad face.

If feasible, would red shirting this season be the way to go for Dwight? His inside presence would be an asset next year as the younger guys continue to develop; especially without Vander Plas and Carter. Hopefully the apparent upcoming information through Russ will paint a brighter picture and this won’t necessarily be “on the table”. Fingers crossed.

All in who your surgeon is, and this is why it's important to shop around. 12 months is a long and cautious approach to an ACL today on a young, fit and athletic person. 8 months or less are not uncommon today. Look at Joe Burrow, he had the "Unhappy Triad" of knee injuries and was out less than 9 months.

Also depends on "who you are".
The "level of care " a top NFL player gets, is lot different then you or I would.

The average person wouldn't even has access to the surgeons, therapists, etc. people in professional sports do.

Not true, Those surgeons do normal everyday surgeries, well everyday! I have friends who drive to Cincinnati for their high school kid to have Dr. Kremchek do their elbow. These doctors have to see normal everyday people, because that is where the money is.

I'm not as optimistic. Joe is much smaller and plays a sport that is more "forgiving" on knees.

Agreed, I had labrum surgery on my throwing shoulder done by the Guardians shoulder surgeon. Rehab is rehab, doesn't matter where its done at, what matters is the effort and consistency to complete months of it.

-Dwight: not sure of the future. Working out and doing non-contact stuff for now
-Jason: almost assuredly a starter. Likely starter even if Dwight were healthy. Will play some five.
-Sounds high on Tommy. As for other newcomers, AJ will be very good in time, IJ pleasant surprise, Alumide, reading between the lines, probably not rotation ready yet.
-Every ACC and Big Ten team turned us down. LSU and UK the only SEC teams that were willing to play us.
-Boals' daughter is a swimmer at Florida State.

It was hinted in another thread that one player is on campus but not participating in team activities. Jeff did not mentioned Sam or Colin by name in either of the two previews parts.

Maybe in Ohio.
Good luck trying to even get an appointment with the Orthopedists who handle teams like the Giants or Jets.

When I was wrestling in college, I tore up the cartilage in my knee.

FDU sent me to one of the Giant's Orthopedists.

Years later I got tendonitis in the knee.

I called the Orthopedist.

His office wouldn't even consider giving me an appointment, until I told them
I was a former patient.

I was able to get an appointment.
But, his office didn't accept insurance.

So I had to go to another Orthopedist who did.

Same with rehab.
Pro players have access to physical therapists and trainers 24/7.
They are monitored constantly and, at least in this area, have facilities that are beyond comparison.

Many physicians and surgeons are not taking new patients. Not unusual.

First I've heard that.

Checked with my wife and niece who are both nurses.

They both said that's the first they've heard of that too.

In fact, because of the pandemic, a number of doctors, especially those who do joint replacement and oncology ,are advertising heavily on the radio .

Same with dentists and orthodontists.

Do you know the reason doctors wouldn't take new patients ?

Because they have enough. Try getting into a doctor in Athens right now. Like I said, it's not uncommon, surgeons are usually different, but my comment was in reference to the post above where he could not get into a high profile doctor.

Well....from the interview and what I'm reading here...I don't think this team can count on Wilson at all this season. And as somebody mentioned...even if he does come back in February, how much will he be able to contribute? He won't be anywhere near 100%. Damn shame....really thought even without Preston, this could be a top 25 team before it's all said and done. Now I guess Carter guards the other team's big guy? The good news is that I think we can get away with this except against Buffalo, Kentucky and LSU.

Now the question....does Dwight really red-shirt and come back for a 6th year? Won't he be 48 years old by then? Kidding.
