I think this is especially true about the AAC with Memphis and Tulane often being reported targets for expansion.

If it’s true, best of luck to Tim, he’s earned it. Sorry to see him leave, but his team won the championship we’ve been chasing for 50+ years so he left us with that!

And was here 20 years to build up the program to the MACC level. The 8+ win we know and love wasn't quite that its first half decade or so, though with decent success. Potato Bowl win in 2011 was the turning point.

Didn’t thank Cromer or Gonzalez on the podium. Had 2 chances. Speaks volumes in many ways.

One of the first words out of his mouth on the field was to thank both. Lmao.

I’ve never heard any of these coaches thank the AD on the field. Never. None of them. Seek help.

And the answer to this thread is BRIAN.

I wonder if the reason he is leaving is he wants to make sure Brian Smith gets the chance and he knows that it is likely to happen. But not riding back to Athens makes me think there is more to this than just something like that.

I was gonna suggest Scott Frost to a loud round of criticism, but he just got his old job at UCF back.

Tulane was a charter member of the SEC. They were in it for 32 years.

Not sure if being in a major city will get them in the SEC/ACC/Big12 or whatever but these are different times, who knows what could happen.

This is all on the athletic director and administration. They showed Coach Albin total disrespect. Are you kidding me? This guy was the sixth highest paid coach in the conference? The athletic director has only herself to blame. She could have got a deal done after the bowl win last season. Three consecutive ten win seasons and she showed the man no respect.

He thanked them in the post game on the field.

Read it again, genius.

He thanks Gonzalez and Cromer weekly as well as Amy Dean. Go see an audiologist if you have hearing issues. Have a good day.

Bobcat Love’s 4th burner.

Anyway, He was the 2nd highest paid coach when he made the deal.

I’m sure a new contract was coming. Or if one was asked for it would be looked at. Doesnt sound like he left much room for a counter since he skipped the bus ride back and told the team he was just going out to the store for milk.

I don't think it's about money. He's done all he can do here. He'll never be known here as the guy who turned around the program. At Charlotte, he has chance to be that guy. If it doesn't happen, it was not a major risk. His life is financially set and this is a new adventure. I don't see him coaching into his late 70s like Frank did unless he snags a gig at a P5 program. That probability is increased if he turns Charlotte into a winner. This is likely a good move for him, even if there is risk. I do hate saying all of that.

He was NOT the 6th highest paid MAC football coach. Wanna make a wager?

Sadly UNC-Charlotte is a BIG metropolis puts fewer fans in the stands than the Bobcats do in rural Athens.

One difference, he did not inherit a losing program here at Ohio, rather an established program.

Two more reasons that this move makes no sense. As I said, there’s got to be more to this story than we know now.

I think it’s likely this was his first outside interview as well. It’s like he’s getting his first girlfriend. Doesn’t know how to act so he’s marrying her.

And I think you’re right. One of the first things I texted my buddy was he’s spent his whole life under Frank, now he coaches on Frank Solich field… even winning he can’t escape Frank… this is his chance - like I said, perhaps his first ever other offer - to get out and do a full rebuild. No shadows to live up to.

Our program is 11 years old, and our stadium is 10,000 seats smaller than yours. We regularly sellout games, but even a sold out season couldn't match your attendance until we expand our stadium.

Just hire from within. It’s cheaper and the culture has been so ingrained that it’s the most likely to work out.

Still trying to wrap my head around this. I figured a big dog program would come calling but Charlotte?? I think what irritates me about this is a lateral move at most. Not riding the bus back with the team just shows he was ready to leave. I’d expect a mass exodus from the players going to the portal.

From USA Today Sports Special Report newspaper in October 18 of 2024. Pay for FBS Head Coaches. Chuck Martin Miami $1.257 million, Jason Candle Toledo $1.125 million, Jim McElwain Central $1.048 million, Lance Taylor Western $850 K, Pete Lembo Buffalo $732,500 and Tim Albin Ohio $709,030. This does not include new arrival and former UMASS Coach Don Brown at $882,586. You should be happy you didn't make a wager.

Not criticism, it’s facts. She wanted no part of working on a new contract with Tim and drug him along.
