Gee is taking a well-deserved beating. And the board deserves the heat simply for hiring the clown.

I never understood his reputation. He was in his first run at OSU when I was a staffer working on higher ed policy at the statehouse. He came off to me as a shameless self-promoter who essentially walked into benefitting from all the real heavy lifting that his predecessor had done. He parlayed that into the job at Brown, and they ran him off pretty quickly. I don't know how he did at Vanderbilt, but his second stint at OSU was a cluster****, and they ran him off. Now, it looks like he totally screwed WVU and exploded their budget thinking he could turn it into OSU.

So, now he'll probably get hired at another school and be a failure there, too.

Maybe, but he'll be 80 next year. Unless you mean president of the USA.

Old presidents never die, they just lose their faculties.

OK, that's bad . . . but sometimes I can't help myself.

Good breakdown on the mess that Gee created and some observations that might apply to any public university today.

One more indication that 1984 has arrived in the third decade of the 21st Century:

"This year, administrators added new language to faculty appointment that subjected faculty to discipline for speaking out against university policy, specifically prohibiting them from publicly opposing 'change that is for the greater good.'”

Good article. This is all you need to know:

WVU has spent millions of dollars on construction projects in recent years, including a $100 million new home for the university’s business school, a $35 million renovation of a 70-year-old classroom building and $41 million for two phases of upgrades to the football team’s building.
