Killer sequence was Simmons getting three straight offensive rebounds. I think they scored on all of them.

The most frustrating and disappointing season in Ohio hoops history. Hahn final season with Snoopy Graham and Dave Jamerson is up there.

I know we had significant injuries, but not having a starting 25-30 minute big and not having Nicol, Kuany and Evans ready is on Boals. One of them had to contribute and it never happened.

Get over yourself and your ridiculous recency bias.

Was this season good? No.
Frustrating? Absolutely.

But it's not even over yet. The most important part is still ahead. Now it's not looking great, but it's not over until it's over.

Nost disappointing in history? Come on. Didn't realize the throw away opinions of people before a single game is played is apparently the end-all be-all measuring stick of a season, bc the only reason you're so disappointed is bc we got picked to win the league pre-season. That prediction and 50 cents will get you a crappy cup of coffee.

This team was never healthy from game 1 with Pavs back and Reefs knee. And it snow balled from there.

As for the bigs discussion. Again. Boals planned on having 4 bigs available. Kuany didn't get eligibility in time and Hadaway and Clayton got hurt. We now have a hobbled Clayton and a back up in Searls. Would love to have more and it's not good enough to win a ton right now, but saying this is on Boals when he started with 4 bigs is unfair.

And don't start on Evans. He was a great get as a highly recruited HS big and still is. Nobody with reasonable expectations and watched him play in HS expected him to walk onto campus as a freshman (or maybe even as a sophomore) and just immediately contribute. Bigs with the ability to immediately contribute don't end up in the MAC. He's exactly the type of HS guy we have to take a shot at.

You amd others disagree with Boals strategy of planning for the future and hoping those future results are better than what you can get from immediate impact 1 year guys via the portal. Maybe you're right and Boals is wrong but it doesn't mean the big situation wasn't addressed.

Nicol is a left-handed shooter (harder to guard) with a good outside shot, who has great size for a wing (6'7) and is a good passer. He isn't a post, he's a small forward. He isn't good enough to displace our current wings. Maybe he never has the athleticism or defense to contribute. Maybe he does. Not every recruit is going to be a hit. Not even at Duke or UK, so you can't hold Boals to that standard either.

Our bigs next year will be transfer/Evans/Hadaway/Kuany and possibly Mosley for stretches.

Bad Sheldon stretch. Passes on an open 3, misses a layup, then poses no challenge when his man drives on the other end.

And yet…Boals keeps throwing him out there 20 minutes a game.

And again left handed Ben Nicol couldn’t get any minutes at all on an injury depleted team. In his second year on scholarship? Oh he’s a wing…well Elliott is playing the 4 right now. At 6-4.

And injuries happen. And they can add to the disappointment. That counts as a part of it.

Hah, nah I just don't let irrelevant pre-season polls dictate my expectations for a season.

I get disappointed and frustrated at this team and their lack of defense on a nightly basis with the rest of you.

But I'm sure not going to declare a season a failure before the most important part of the season has even happened yet. It is trending in that direction for sure, but we'll see. Even so, hard to overcome the injuries at important positions that we've sustained this year. We lost exactly the guys we couldn't afford to lose.

I also tend to hate a team built around AJC and Pavs. Don't think it's a winning recipe. That will change next year.

It is what it is.

Huh? I'm confused. Because I responded to your waving the white flag you interpret that as my insisting that you continue to care and post? Please, feel free to call it a season. Does your "we" mean you can't make the decision alone, you need everyone to follow you?

Well you did mention me posting lol. This is the first time all season that I hint towards ending the season due to play and injuries. The "we" part was just a figure of speech. I'm never one to post and crave people to follow what I say. I think you're making my frustrated post a bigger deal than it actually is.

Respectfully man, FJC is right. Your posts about this year's team are basically non-sensical narrative building that go to ridiculous lengths to insist Boals is somehow playing chess with some long game big man recruiting strategy that's going to magically turn Ayden Evans and his awful rate stats into a higher ceiling big. Meanwhile, the rest of the conference has bigger, stronger, more athletic bigs and they're all playing against our current roster and not the roster of the future Boals is so focused on.

The rest of us are looking at results. You're judgung Boals on a hypothetical future. We're looking at Boals' history recruiting and developing bigs. We're watching EMU's frontcourt rotation do whatever they want against us, Toledo scoring 82 paint points on 140% shooting, and looking at roster and wondering when all of this higher upside talent we're developing is going to show up.

Earlier this week you got all indignant when I suggested that Boals had only recruited a single starting caliber big outside of Dwight Wilson. You reminded me of our 1 year of Ogbanda. Meanwhile you're insisting that it's wrong to blame Boals for our big man strategy, because he's addressing it by bringing in young bigs who need to be developed for the future.

So if you're scoring from home, the only 5s Boals has ever had on the roster who have actually been starting caliber are portal bigs that others developed, but our big man recruiting strategy is to recruit high school guys because with 3 or 4 years of development they'll have a higher ceiling. Any examples of Boals actually doing that successfully? Nolan Foster? Nate Springs? Colin Granger? Izuma? Wiz?

You've got to contort yourself and accept some things that Boals is doing pretty blindly to even make sense of your points here, and yet you're the most indignant and most insistent that others are being unreasonable.

I don’t think anyone else hates Pavs on this team besides you.

He has a defensive shortcoming (who doesn’t on this team besides Reef?). Otherwise, he’s been a solid addition and far from the main issue with this roster.

Your post above mentions next year we’ll have Evans/Kuany/Hadaway/transfer as bigs. We just handed out a scholarship to a likely project big from London. If he accepts, then what? You seem so sure of yourself that Boals knows what he’s doing as it relates to size. We’d be in even more trouble next year if this is the bigs mix we go into the season with.

Injuries are always huge in the MAC. It's how teams adapt.

Akron lost arguably its top portal recruit (6-7 PF) after a few games but won it all, easily.

CMU lost its best post player, but the backup proved to be a stud.

Kent lost its most versatile player around Christmas.

Ohio's injuries are well documented.

Some teams adjust, some don't.

Meanwhile, Boals is playing a guy 20 minutes a game who is shooting 18.9% from 3 in conference play. He is making BRod’s last two years look like Steph Curry.

Really bad defense, particularly in the paint. Lost track of guys so many times. Really bad rebounding, several were just plain embarrassing. EE had the worst game, some of the drives to the basket he took were comical as my brain said "is he really going to try to...oh wow that was an embarrassing looking shot." I appreciate the confidence but my goodness. Take EJ's 3 point shooting (something we definitely can not count on) and it was an absolute blowout.

If we get Hadaway & Brown both back on Thursday, it feels like a gamble but one I am definitely wiling to take with this team. They could be rusty and we could be terrible, or maybe it will revitalize the team to go on a run. I promote positivity but when we are 1-10 in the last 11 with Toledo, you're permitted to have little faith.

Man, don’t even bother. No one drinks the green Kool-Aid more on here than Graff. This team could win 1 game and he’d still try to spin it as positive.

I also tend to hate a team built around AJC and Pavs. Don't think it's a winning recipe. That will change next year.

I don’t think anyone else hates Pavs on this team besides you.

The PAV hate is unreal to me. Don’t get it.

Meanwhile, Boals is playing a guy 20 minutes a game who is shooting 18.9% from 3 in conference play. He is making BRod’s last two years look like Steph Curry.

Seriously, we're 7 deep with ajb injured. He HAS to play and we just have to hope he breaks out.

Yes…he has to play, but not 20 minutes a game. Elliott and PAV need to be on the court for 35 minutes in Cleveland. That gets Sheldon 10 minutes.

If AJB is healthy, there's no reason Sheldon needs to be on the court. We have Reef, Pavs, Elliot, AJB and Elmore. We can manage with a 5 man guard rotation.

Perhaps the only defense for Boals and his recruiting a big guys is the thing we always hear about Ohio university… We don’t have the funds. Our NIL isn’t even good enough by MAC standards to get a big?

Actually, our NIL is good enough by mid-major/low-major (pending you categorize the MAC these days) standards. It was over $200K last year, so it's trending in the right direction of mid-major average of $291K. Low-majors are at $80K.

Resharing the article below as we head back into portal season.

It comes down to how we allocate and where we're looking more than anything else.

Just from my 30,000 foot view, I think Boals and Co are often on the highest rated guards and building around the 4-5 that were here, hoping others pan out. Evans was highly rated. He's just not getting PT. AJC is an All MAC performer. Hadaway. Brought in Searls. He's not exactly sitting on his hands. Many of these top portal stars likely saw a log jam and didn't see playing time.

Certainly, today we need size. But anyone coming in wasn't starting. Unless injuries hit.

If I had to guess, we see at least one portal big - but even then - unless Evans is leaving and/or Boals says otherwise - that person likely isn't seeing a wide-open lane to starting at 5.

Hadaway and Evans are likely your 4 and 5 next season. Portal GuyTM is coming off the bench.
