Still Love Our Bobcats

It's always sad when the season ends, but sports fandom is about failure. I'm not a portal watcher, so I have to wait for November for tipoff. I'll be ready.

Good thread.

I am incredibly proud of the way this team came together and ended the season. We came up short against an incredible Akron team who, honestly, should have been the #1 seed if not for some confusing losses down the stretch.

Boals has us consistently in the mix for a MAC title.

We saw great development of key players this season. Our Seniors were special. A throwback, career Bobcat in Miles Brown playing tough through an injury down the stretch along Jaylin and Reef.

I will always remember Wiz hitting that 3 against WMU and his amazing 1st half tonight. Some good memories this year and I had fun with this team. At the end of the day, that's what it is all about.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

Great run to finish 13-5 in conference. Lots of fun games and fun moments. Thanks to the players and coaches for being an easy group to root for.

Possibly one of Boals best coaching efforts. This team played hard including up to the last whistle tonite. This season easily could have gone off the rails but to Boals credit he kept the train on the track Congrats to Boals and his TEAM on a successful,enjoyable season!!

This team never quit, even during our rough start. That says a lot about the character of the men on the team and the ability of Coach Boals to keep them together and keep them improving. Thanks to everyone involved for your hard work and dedication.

This team went about as far as they could. They battle and put together a good season. This team wasn't the most talented Ohio team. Boals might have done his best job with this team. They proved they are right with Toledo and Akron.

Well said ! This team responded to adversity and showed character to push through ! This team will be special if we keep (and add) to this roster. Hunter and Brown will be missed for sure. Their perseverance was incredible and almost pulled it off.

What a gritty team led by an extraordinary coach. They overcame so many challenges to make this year-end run. Looking forward to next season. I am confident that coach Boals will find a way. What an enjoyable season it was!

Such a likable team and probably my favorite simply because of the challenges they faced throughout the year and the adversity they overcame time and time again. Looking very much forward to next year�s addition as I really believe this program is trending up.

Nobody likes major changes in their job description after they've been hired.

That's what's being done to coaches. This is a very different type of fund raising.
I think you're going to see more of the old school type coaches getting out of the business.

Which raises the question....how do you do this type of fundraising? I guess selling it to businesses as an investment that could increase their revenue. With everything else on their plates, this is a lot to expect out of coaches.

No doubt Jeff. It's completely unrealistic, especially at non majors. If I were a coach in the current atmosphere I'd be looking for a nice HS or D3 job imo. I've said before I don't envy the task Boals has on front of him. But it doesn't change the fact that it's the current reality of the dumpster fire that is the NCAA.

This is an excellent point, Jeff. I've actually been wondering if Jeff Boals might hang 'em up and get out of coaching. He seems very frustrated at times.

If we're dependent on NIL funds, I'm not sure we will ever compete with the "urban centered" schools in the MAC. When your largest local private employer is Quidel (a medical company), those bucks are hard to come by.

Since this has drifted to an NIL discussion, I think it's obvious OU can't rely on Athens businesses alone. Need to tap into our large alumni base (a resource advantage vs other mid majors) located in urban centers.

Sure you have to get more creative for it to make sense for non-local entities but that brings CBus, Cleveland, Cincy, Chicago etc all into play. Not sure on recent alumni demographics but maybe even Philly or NJ as we used to have a lot of east coast students from there.

Where else would a guy make $700K a year with no boss? Yes, he has an AD but if he wins and doesn't violate the law, he has a job for as long as he wants it.

I still think we were the best team in the MAC by season's end. I think we will retain most all and I'm excited for next season.

Doesn't the vast majority of money have basically nothing to do with businesses at all? I thought that, at this point, it's basically just individual donor money going into collectives. Am I wrong about that?
