If only he'd been a teacher and mentioned that sometimes people have two Dads. Then they could've fired him with the public's support.

But alas, he just used a hateful slur in a radio interview, so didn't do anything morally wrong.

Where did anybody say there was anything acceptable about what he did? E.G.G. is a very progressive man for being 79 years old. His wife used to smoke weed when they lived in Nashville. He probably would have fired Huggy ASAP but answers to a Board.

I do admit being a bit surprised that he's not pink slipped seeing as Morgantown is more Pennsylvania and less West Pennsyltucky than the rest of the state.

His wife smoking weed makes him progressive?

Whatever Huggins paid to the PR company to write his statements he got his monies worth. It somehow saved his job. I wonder if he’s still coaching if he were not bringing in the best 2023 portal class?

My guess is that there was an agreement that said get this recruiting class on campus and we will let you coach one more year and that’s it.

I bet they let him stay as long as he wants now. They have the opportunity to get out from under the contract if they fire him with cause immediately. If they let him remain for a year, they can't fire him with cause and will be on the hook for the rest of his contract unless they just wait for him to do the next stupid thing.

Nailed it^^^^^

Nope. He's gotta go.

Its his second DUI but this is in a second state and 19 years later so probably a slap on the wrist. If this happened in West Virginia the penalties look a lot stiffer.

This probably all stems from his freshman year at OHIO -- a legacy of Court Street. We all share the blame and shouldn't cast stones.

According to a police report, a breath test determined that Huggins' blood alcohol content was 0.21%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08% in Pennsylvania.

If it was borderline, that's one thing.

.21 is another - he needs to be gone and go dry out...and take away the car away.

No one is trying harder to "quiet-quit" than Bob Huggins. What an off-season.

I was wondering just how long this would take. Start up the BA Worry Bus.

He's a good coach and a good guy. He's always gonna pop up on these lists.

I'm not sure anyone thinks he's gonna be here for 10 years. I just hope when he leaves us it's on his own terms (meaning we're having success and he's not fired), and we're left in a decent situation. (And we hire Lamar)

I *sincerely* doubt he would jump to a new job in JUNE, especially with what most of us feel is a strong team returning, but I can think of about $3M reasons to get yourself in a tough situation.

It would be a great job for him, and similar challenges exist there as they do OU - except money.

If I had to guess..

1) Everhart is the easy choice, though not very sexy. Could keep the seat warm until next seasons carousel.
2) Calhoun at Youngstown. His offense would be a fairly easy sell.
3) Frank Martin at UMASS. Proven. Tough. Former Big 12 CoY.

When Huggins was first at WVU they were in the Big East with that dreamy 16 team configuration for basketball with nearby Pitt, UC and Louisville.

Big 12 2.0 in a conference with BYU and Central Florida has to be excruciating for travel. WVU is not nearly the job it was in the Big East or even 5 years ago when Huggnins had them in the Sweet 16. It migh make sense for WVU to go cheap here with the next hire (internal assistant).

Country Roads Trust does speak to deep pockets for NIL. Big 12 basketball is so loaded right now. Article listed 4 MAC head coaches as names which I found unusual. Hopefully they can take Toledo's coach as he always falls short.

A sad career ending for the former Bobcat ('72-'73) and all Ohio HS player. I read the arrest report. Not good. The report says bodycam footage was made. When that gets out, it'll be worse. My guess is he was told to resign. It will be interesting to see if he gets any more money from WVU.

Huggins was a good coach and related well to players even into his 60s. He had very good success initially after WVU entered the Big 12. But he'd slipped recently as far as coaching is concerned. One 20 win season in last 5. Only a couple of NCAA appearances during that time and the Mounties were gone after the first weekend in both instances. One wonders if longterm alcohol abuse affected his coaching performance.

Reports indicate many players may leave. Whoever gets the HC job faces a long season in Morgantown.

While his top assistant keeps being mentioned around the sports world as the odds-on fave to get the gig... watch out for Calhoun at YSU. He used to coach a smaller college 20 minutes from WVU (Fairmont State) and had a great record there...124-38/87-23. And he's fairly young.

Really think one of those two guys will get the job. Maybe.

Don't know if it means anything, but Boals is pretty far down the
list of potential coaching candidates.

He's also mentioned in the same sentence with 2 other MAC Coaches.

Prior to this WVU had picked up some high-profile names in the portal this year. Hopefully our staff is prepared to seize the opportunity! However, I wonder if coaching changes will matter less in causing players to transfer in this new NIL era... If these players are still getting their NIL money, do they really care if Huggins is gone?

$$$ reigns supreme.

Another possibility, I suppose, could be that an incoming coach might decide not to honor previous NIL commitments.

Am I wrong , or aren't NIL's through a third party ?

If that's the case, would a coach have any control over them ?

This weekend provided some highly entertaining albeit very disturbing reading of people (the silliest of WVU fans) trying to defend this man's actions.

"Everyone makes mistakes."

"You have no proof of that." (In response to "he's lucky he didn't kill someone.")

"It's called living his life to the fullest"

People making statements like this - you can't reason with them. They're lost and in the same boat as Huggins.

Something to consider: Huggins wasn't a small man - well over 225 lbs by my best guess. Think about how much alcohol this man had to drink to get twice over the legal limit. Then think about him doing that during the day and being pulled over around 8:30pm.

The two statements he made to police that are absolutely terrifying:

-Thinking he was in Columbus, OH and not Pittsburgh.
-The last thing he remembered was stopping at a Burger King in Washington, PA around 1:30pm.

This man was at the wheel of a death machine, blacked out, for HOURS. Good Lord it's a miracle nobody was seriously injured or killed, including himself.

Technically yes they are third party. But these collectives act like a booster club and put the support where the staff feels there is the most need. At schools like ours, coaches then have to prioritize where that money goes.
