Even though Akron didn’t win, I think their competitiveness helps his resume just a little, didn’t hurt it.

I'm curious how unique is the 3 teams to the dance? I'm not saying it isn't impressive. But mid-major coaches get to the dance (1) and then get a major job where getting to the dance is "easier" (2), and then if like Groce they ultimately fail at the major level and go back to mid-major the third team to the dance is the real accomplishment (3). But others who make it to the first 2 dances often end up moving on at the major level and get another "easier" path to the dance, so in the end how many guys end up taking three different teams? Is it really a small group?

That is EXACTLY what I said (where is the rolling eyes emoji?)....."younger kids looking for a Catholic education" equates to people wanting to pay more for an education because Pitino is there. Foolish assertion to attempt to change the intent.

You didn’t answer my question. What if Pitino is a net profit for Iona? Is his pay still unreasonable?

Just how would you go about measuring his worth? He didn't make the dance this year. I guess besides tarnishing your school's reputation with all of his baggage, much of it pretty sordid. It appears that there are some at Iona that wish to win at any cost. It would be in the eye of the beholder.

I agree, Mike. There really is such a thing as bad publicity. I never subscribed to the Alden approach. One example: When some of our physicians were charged (falsely) in screaming headlines in the Athens Messenger of subjecting patients to unnecessary and dangerous levels of X-rays by a crusading but ignorant reporter in several stories stretching over several weeks, it was not good publicity. When we finally invited the reporter to talk with a panel of expert radiologists that we put together he had an epiphany when one of the doctors explained to him the difference in dosage and potential harmful effects between diagnostic and therapeutic X-rays. The reporter then realized that he had written a number of alarmist, ill-informed stories. Did we get retractions and coverage of his contrition equal to his blaring headlines? No, he just simply ceased his ignorant reporting with very little in the way of a retraction. This left a lot of folks, I'm sure, thinking worse of our medical school, its physicians and of osteopathic medicine. This was publicity, but it was not good.
