Good commentary. Was said a few times they "just gave everyone else the blueprint to beat us...." I am not sure everyone (or anyone) has the athletes or the ability to game plan as well as the UT staff or if they can implement that plan....for sure NO ONE I have seen in this league has the shooters and the individuals to execute that plan. Toledo brought it all together.

I always enjoy other fanboards....especially after beating the opposition...but especially after beating Ohio. Stating things like "8000 hostile students" amuses me but this needs some verification as I am interested to know if they moved the benches or if there was a different layout than I am familiar with .... One fan wrote

"Back in the day, believe it or not, their student section was in the bleachers directly behind the visitors bench. Yes, their student had their knees in the backs of the players the whole game. It was a tough, brutal crowd but they were also some of the funniest in the league.
One years Coach Nichols wore a cardigan sweater with shirt and tie and the whole game they were on him for trying to look like Mr. Rogers."

I am not sure knees in the backs when you are standing is accurate but did we have a different set up in the Convo?

BWHAHHA! Sounds like we were doing our job! I don't believe the student section used to be behind the opponents bench though. Hope we can keep it up! Tbh some of the chirps I heard last night towards players like Moss / Rollins, just golden

Borna, your comments are spot on and remind me of some of this Snyder vs Nichols battles in the 70s. They were epic.

As a student starting to attend games in the fall of 1973 the setup was full bleachers on both sides. The student section was the west bleachers and the lower bowl behind the bleachers. The band sat behind the basket.

But this did not preclude some students from sitting in the seats right behind the opponent bench in the bleachers opposite most of the students. I can picture the same students, mostly male that sat behind the bench every game. I think I recall chairs used by the players but perhaps the teams sat on the first row of bleachers to give a safer sideline than chairs on the floor. Or maybe the fan is recalling playing in Grover before the Convo came to life.

What i would say is i don't really blame Rodericks performance all on Roderick. There is a big problem the team obviously doesn't have confidence it has caused Sears to only use half the court. sears puts himself in positions that makes getting the ball to one or two players on court. I think it started as a roderick thing but now it is a habit he is in all the time.

You even see it out of Carter and BVP the player sags off him on to one of the big guys they will not toss it out no matter what. Now there in that habit and it doesn't matter who is in the game. None of your other players can step up if you don't trust them. Bobcats shot like 21% from 3 in 1st half and none of them were rodercik misses.

I thought Boles did not help himself any last night as he made changes that seemed to thwart the momentum a few times in the game. I wasn't overly impressed by toledo they are a good team. But ohio needs to decide who they are going to war with. And go for it. I was very disappointed in the team work. I think this team can still be very, very good but need to shift it into another gear

1 game does not make a season.
Let's not make this loss bigger than it is.

Yup. Remember Buffalo came into the Convo late in the season last year and kicked us around, and within two weeks we dominated them at Rocket Mortgage.

We were out to dinner after the game and Jason Carter walked in with his parents. My son went up and asked him if he is OK, he said it was indeed just a cramp so we can officially not worry about a Carter injury.

That had all the makings of an absolute classic and true program changing night when we were mounting the comeback. I hadn't been that amped up in the Convo in a long time. I hope the fringe fans / new students still had a good time and will keep coming back.

Toledo was incredible. They honestly seemed to feed off the atmosphere and rose to the occasion. A lot of the time we don't give opponents enough credit in a loss but they looked really really good on Friday. Scary to think that entire 5 is coming back next year and possibly the following year.

The 2 off the ball fouls on IJ were absolutely gutting. I don't know how valid they were, and neither do most of you, because we're all watching the ball. But boy it hurt.

The slow start was big and really took us out of our game. We are 210th in the country in 3 pt % yet we shot 29 threes. I think we had a ton of open looks and once again just didn't hit. Roderick's 3 attempts were all wide open. If they're going to give him that shot and he can't make it, it is going to cause a lot of problems for our offense. I can not believe it is the end of January and Ben Roderick is shooting 20% from 3.

Mark Sears 1 assist and 7 turnovers...yikes. Disappointing following his best game in the ball distribution dept against Miami. He is so damn good at scoring but hopefully Boals & the staff are continually working on bettering this part of his game. Ryan Rollins blew past Sears in the POY race on Friday. Hopefully Mark can even the score in Toledo. The fact that they're both true Sophomores is exciting for the league.

This plus the young bigs in the league (Sparks, Skogman, Bagoango, Freeman) and the current recruiting classes at Ohio, UB and WMU bodes well for the MAC. . . until you remember it's 2022 and how free agency has seeped into college sports.

We attempted two three point shots before Toledo first took a ten point lead, making one. After Toledo went up 19-9, we shot 13 more three pointers for the first half, making only two more. Meanwhile, we shot 9/13 from inside the arc for the half, and went to the foul line only three times in the first half.

The worst thing that could come out of this game is to not learn from it. January conference games are the best time to learn. And what I hope we learn is that we don't need to play desperately on offense and mount the big comeback immediately. Keep the game around 10 points and the hole is not that big going into halftime.

Hopefully students continue to bring energy and numbers. Feels like it's been a while since we've won the big student interest home game in hoops or football.

Anyone watch UT and Dayton in the NIT tonight, playing on Toledo's floor? The team that played in the Convo this year was absolutely fantastic. The team tonight . . . not so much. Given the Bobcats late season struggles I guess I shouldn't be pointing out the Rockets demise but sheesh, in Athens Rollins goes 26-6-5 on 56% shooting, tonight he goes 14-3-1 on 29% shooting. Shumate tonight was 0-11 and 0-7 from three. As a team UT shot 59% in our place, 41% from three, tonight 35% and 17%. Guess that's just basketball but on January 21st I was really impressed.

Also watched the UT-UD game. Had me thinking there's several degrees of athleticism.

UD>UT>OU>my intramural basketball team that reached the all-campus final 4.

All I gotta say is woof. UD wiped the floor with UT on their home court. I hope the MAC can dig itself out of the hole it dug this year.
