I've considered this for some time but still can't quite decide which is more disappointing: Am I more disheartened that to be accepted and avoid public scorn and derision, all those in positions of higher education MUST BE card carrying liberals (because anybody with a brain should be, right?) or that alums from Ohio University don't have the critical thinking skills, and appreciation for freedoms to engage in and tolerate differing opinions.

I would think someone who attended OU would be intelligent enough to see critical race theory for the insanity it is and how it will literally rip the fabric of our country and society apart. Our geopolitical adversaries are laughing their heads off.

As someone who currently serves our country in the military I'll defend your right to disagree with me and even for people to kneel during the anthem. It's not illegal. Just being illegal doesn't mean it doesn't come with consequences though. Case in point, people who disagree and feel it's disrespectful to the flag and our country can also express their opinion and choose to turn off the game, not attend or stop supporting altogether until it stops. Or maybe a coach can decide to leave a program because of it.

Those ^ ^ Qanon people ^ ^ are certainly brainwashed from too much "news"max and mr. pillow and the QANN network nonsense. They are either trolls or don't actually have a correctly functioning brain.

Election was stolen = pure debunked BS
Capitol invaders were BLM disguised as white trumpers = comedy BS
trump is "not a racist" = BS debunked since the 1970's

Say hello to David Duke, Boebert, and Taylor-Greene for everybody.

Remember this while scrolling through those pictures:
Under the U.S. Code, the crime of insurrection is committed by “Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto.”

In a survey of 1,397 American voters by YouGov, a non-partisan pollster, more Republicans said they supported the Jan. 6th insurrection actions of the pro-trump extremists than opposed them (45% to 43% respectively).

They weren't called "cult 45" for nothing.

No amount of right-wing gaslighting is going to fool anybody outside the alt-right echo-chamber. The white nationalist far right people should be on a nascar or ted nugent hunting forum, not one for basketball, of all sports.

Reports that there is a deeper issue at ETSU. Before ETSU's game with Chattanooga this season, their players knelt during the national anthem. Well in response, all 27 Republicans in the Tennessee Senate signed a letter to university presidents across the state calling on them to ban student-athletes from kneeling. There was also talk that a prominent donor threatened to discontinue support if a change wasn't made.

Best of luck getting a quality coach to what is normally a quality program.

They should have given the ETSU Coach a raise and extension for having those 27 idiots reprimand him.

I see those 27 don't have a right to an opinion, but those who kneel do. I would love to see to you make that argument to some of the Cubans and Venezuelans in my neighborhood who escaped totalitarian regimes and love the our flag and all it stands for. My guess is that you wouldn't be using the word idiot in their presense. It would not end well.

Just so I'm clear, you think 27 republican politicians trying to use the power of the state to ban free speech they disagree with is "an opinion"?

The level of cognitive dissonance necessary to cite totalitarian regimes as an argument in favor of banning speech is truly remarkable. You're arguing against free speech and that the state should have the power to curb it, and using the experience of your neighbors who fled totalitarianism to justify it. That lacks any logical consistency at all.

There's a whole lot of irony to be found in the fact that you're being critical of others' critical thinking skills and accusing others of not appreciating freedoms and tolerating differing opinions.

To be crystal clear: This whole discussion is about a case where elected officials, using the power of the state, are pressuring universities into silencing speech they disagree with.

So it's downright silly that you and Cbus are defending that and then turning around and accusing others of not appreciating freedoms or difference of opinion. Your entire stance here is a defense of limiting speech in cases where your opinion differs. There's one group here using the power of the state to shut down opinions that differ from theirs. There's another who called somebody an idiot on a message board.

Unfortunately, you were both so blinded by partisanship that you weren't able to actually identify who in this example was threatening freedoms and speech. It's such a perfect encapsulation of modern politics in the US that Cbus can't seem to tell the difference between somebody disagreeing with an opinion and an actual, direct threat to speech.

Like clockwork, Mitch Mcconnell weighs in to threaten speech and freedoms of companies who spoke out against the Georgia voter suppression law: “Parts of the private sector keep dabbling in behaving like a woke parallel government. Corporations will invite serious consequences if they become a vehicle for far-left mobs to hijack our country from outside the constitutional order."

So, here we have a state actor threatening the free speech of private companies because they dared to speak out against policy they disagree with. He is literally threatening government action to silence speech he disagrees with. This comes on the heels of Georgia overturning tax breaks for Delta after similar statements. The state's retaliating against private companies for opinions that differ.

By this board's math though, that's fine. The real threat to free speech would be if I called Mitch Mcconnell an idiot and hurt Cbus' feelings.

But of course it's ok with Mitch if big corporations like Chick-fil-a and Hobby Lobby express their First Amendment "religious freedoms" by not making available to employees health insurance that pays for things such as birth control.

Your leader? What is this your leader garbage? He was OUR President. Still likely should be. As such he was the leader of the military and the free world. Nothing more, nothing less. Only weird cults and socialists idolize their political figures as their "leader" in the fashion you're describing.

Sorry he couldn't be as cool as the murderer Che Guevara for your tastes.

Also, funny that they're being forced to go the civil suit route since the federal case has completely blown up in their faces and disintegrated as more about Jan 6 is learned. Because there's no "there" there.

Now if we want to start arresting US citizens for protesting in the Capitol building we can start with the pink hat brigade that literally stormed the building and broke down doors during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings. But that's your team, so I'm sure you're okay with that.

as he called for you people to stage a seditious insurrection.

Flag on the play. That's complete nonsense. Did you LISTEN to his speech on 6 Jan? I did. Secret, he never called for anything of the sort. Quite the opposite actually. Apparently, like most low information voters, you didn't and instead choose to get your opinions spoon fed to you by the all-knowing, all-caring, drive-by communist news networks.

So, you gonna track me down and assault me with bear spray and a fire extinguisher or run me down with your gray Dodge Charger?

What in the WORLD are you talking about? Like seriously - seek help for TDS. It's real.

You know the fire extinguisher thing at the Capitol was fake news too right? Of course you don't.

I believe you are right about TDS. Anyone who thinks Trump was/is good is deranged.
