According to Scout, he is an OLB. Had offers from Kentucky, Bowling Green and Buffalo. Was hearing from WVU and Stanford.

Oh I like this guy a lot. His pursuit angles are really good and he doesn't get lost in traffic. I see him playing inside. I hope he stays committed and signs with us!

My observations of his film startled me. He is so technically sound it's not even funny. We call guys like this SPACE MONSTERS. He makes great decisions in pursuit and redirects running backs. He stutter steps with them to slow them down to continue pursuing and cut down that angle. I also saw him overpursue angles to make up for other players missed angles and force runs back inside. In my opinion I want this guy in the middle, however, its not a bad decision at OLB. To me he is worth more than 2 stars but keep him there so no one else steals him. He plays like a Stanford or Wisconsin-like LB. Really solid pick here if he stays...

From a physical standpoint, he looks ready to go right now. It seems to be our tendency to recruit high school linebackers who are only around 200 lbs.

That is pretty common, not just at Ohio, but everywhere. You need more speed and athleticism at the next level, so teams recruit players and move them to a new position. Thus, you recruit corners and make them safeties (e.g. Kylan Nelson), safties become Linebackers (e.g. Quallen), Linebackers become linemen (Ernie Hodge), defensive ends become defensive tackles (e.g Berger), defensive tackles become offensive tackles (e.g. Kuhar), WR become Tight Ends (Leuhrman twins), Tight Ends become left Tackles (e.g. Chris Rodgers).

Actually, though, as weight training and player development at the high school level has improved, this seems to be becoming less common, not more. You even see players move the opposite direction, occasionally, such as Mayne Williams, who played Safety in high school, and is at corner for Ohio.

It's very difficult to get over 200lbs by 18 years of age without pharmaceutical help. Those guys go power 5. So that's why you redshirt to put on that weight naturally with diet and strength training. Ohio isn't alone in recruiting 200lb linebackers. The difference between 17-18 years and 19-20 years can be 20-30 lbs of lean weight.

Has anyone seen a 40 time? Hudl has his shuttle time of 4.3, but I haven't seen a straight line 40 number.

As ExCat says, the technique is there--no bad habits to break. But on film he doesn't look super fast. I wonder if that's what has the star count at only 2....

I've always been a fan of football players who also excelled on the wrestling mat.

Speaking of which, wasn't a former Bobcat, one who will be inducted into the Ohio HoF later this fall, also all-state in wrestling?

You are right about his lack of speed. That's why I like him inside. He would get exposed on the edge in my opinion. But great vision and flow followed by heavy thumping.

He's pretty damn quick, I'd like to see more film of him taking on and shedding a block, but he's a DI athlete through and through

Gimme an athletic, instinctive linebacker with great vision every day of the week! Instinct and vision can make up for lack of speed.

I agree! He definitely has "football speed". And plenty of that to play in the middle. His vision should help him to handle the trap blocks.

For anyone who gets Spectrum Sports Ohio in their home-the Big Walnut vs. Olentangy Orange game has been on replay pretty often this week and he has plenty of screen time and also has prompted quite a few Ohio mentions.

Don't know if #22 for Orange has many looks from anyone but seems like a solid UTM back.

May end up being a solid player for a D3 OAC program (Capital, Otterbein etc.).

Houston suffered a season-ending injury last week, per Dispatch.
