I truly hope OUr 2025 QB is currently not on OUr 2024 roster.

While QB is a concern, we were manhandled in the trenches. The O and D lines were bigger, faster and stronger...not even close.

This was a big day for Miami recruiting. They had close to 100 high school players there. They treated them to full access to the Taj Mahal that is their $80M locker room/fieldhouse/weight training complex.

Miami has a donor ready to write a check for a new basketball arena. Meanwhile we struggle to get people to join the OBC at the $99 level. Our fans/alums are ridiculously cheap in comparison to MU.

I had hoped for a better effort. Things are so out of control. Albin says they prepare "as if it's just another game." I'm sure that is the case for players in rival games like USC-UCLA, UGA-Florida, Oregon-Oregon State, Harvard-Yale. Sure Tim - just another game. That I do not like. Another game? Ask any student-athlete up until COVID if it's just another game. It's not.

That said, they are better. Here are a few things said on the pregame show and from the announcers during the game:

34 players on our roster have never played Fiami

54 players on our roster have never played AT Fiami

Fiami's offensive line are all Seniors

Gabbert is a 6th year Senior

McDonald is a 6th year Senior and a tremendous athlete

(About 50 times) Our QB plays for IU

(About 2 times) Cross came with Rourke

This is the new MAC until this NIL and portal non-sense get under control.Sucks.

Miami stumbled into the same situation that Boals has stumbled into this year. They have a lot of players who are just barely not good enough to get P4 money. I say stumbled because that isn't really a thing you can strategize for when you recruit. You recruit the best players

We had our chance last year and didn't get it done. But what happened this year isn't exactly the new normal. Most years our player losses won't be this bad.

As fans, we do need to look in the mirror some. We do a great job attending games-look at the empty seats at Miami yesterday. Do we have enough deep pocket people to move the needle ? I’m not sure. Regarding the Miami alum writing a check for a new arena - it’s true but “only” for 1/3 of the cost according to what some are saying on their board. I don’t know the truth, but it’s big deal as you say.

Go back and ready basically every post of mine from last season.

Albin’s offense is horrible. Now the talent just isn’t good enough to overcome. Burn the clock and pray is not an offense. They never play to win. They play to not lose.

I think that is well put; it often feels like that on offense the last two years. Nothing was officially ever said about the offensive portal defections from last year but, given the departures and change in offensive coordinator, one has to fairly wonder if it was because at least some offensive players thought they were not gonna get a chance to show what they could do based on a conservative offense. And more to the idea of playing not to lose, i don't know about anyone else but the Central Michigan game felt like Ohio started to run out the clock at the start of the second half because of the 24-point lead. It is a tough problem. Obviously, Ohio has its formula and won 24 games in the last two and a half years, so, to some significant degree, it works. If Ohio can run the ball, drain the clock, and play defense, it minimizes risks in the passing game and that is what they will do. And I'm fairly sure the coaching staff doesn't want to hear about stats in part because they have the formula but they don't want the players being upset about stats. The thing i wonder about that approach is will the offense be ready to win big games if they didn't do much in games except mostly runs, tunnel screens, hitches and slants? When we need the passing game, can we get anything done? This year is different in that, as much as I respect him, Navarro's strength is running not passing so you don't necessarily wanna take that risk with him throwing. However, 2023 was a different story. In 2022, Ohio was 40th in total offense and 23rd in passing yards. That was partly due to necessity as the defense struggled for the first six weeks. However, in 2023 the offense brought back most of the key players but finished 93rd in passing offense and 95th in total offense. The biggest problem with the run and play defense is games where you cannot run the ball, then it breaks down. When you play the better teams wiht great run defenses like Miami or Toledo, and you can't run, you aren't draining the clock, your defense is constantly on the field and will wear out and will be working repeatedly trying to defend short fields.

Amazingly, we’re still not out of the picture - and inexplicably I think Navarro gives us the best chance with his legs, knowledge of the playbook.

5 team log jam at 2-1.

Still have Kent, Ball State.

Buffalo, EMU still possible wins.

Toledo is an L.

Agree, the MAC is up for grabs right now. I've always been a fan of the boxing saying "Styles Make Fights" and I think that is true. For Ohio to be a MAC champ, it is possible in 2024 but some other MAC teams will have to eliminate teams that can play run defense because those teams will likely beat Ohio. Looking at the remaining games, Ohio playing its best, should beat Kent and Ball State for a number of reasons. That leaves three games. The Buffalo game is winnable because Ohio's defense is upper MAC and even with linebacker Dolac, Buffalo's defense can be had sometimes on the ground. EMU is also a winnable game for the same reasons. Ohio will have a tough time beating Toledo as the Rockets play excellent run defense. On the whole, best case if everything breaks right is Ohio is 6-2 in conference, worst case probably 4-4. If Ohio can manage to get to the championship, they need to avoid teams that can stop the run like Toledo, Miami, and NIU

Yep - the college is now called the Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts. We attended the festivities Friday night - a reception and dinner in Putnam Hall, a pep rally on the college green complete with the 110 and cheerleaders and a program and performance in Men Aud including the Singing Men of Ohio. The university pulled out all the stops for this one.

Alan, did you check out the new Green Room at Memorial Auditorium during the event? It's got to be the most stunning and expensive room on Campus. It's funny to live in a world where Fine Arts got such an impressive endowment.

Sure did. Jeff and Mark had significant input (basically control) of the redesign of the room. I'm going to go back as soon as I can. The Pete Sousa wall of photos was absolutely amazing. There's quite a bit of old athletics stuff displayed too including a 25 cent football program from 1946 for a game between my alma mater, Muskingum College, and Ohio U and one from Homecoming 1938 at Miami between Ohio U. and Miami U. Good stuff and a real showplace.

The calls by some in this thread to move on from Albin don't make sense to me. Sure, we're all ticked about losing to Miami two consecutive years. But Miami has the better roster, and it shows.

Albin won 10 games each of the last two seasons. Such a feat hadn't happened previously in program history. In this day and age, rosters are going to change dramatically from one year to the next, and this year's roster is lacking. (That said, it could still win 8 games and maybe another bowl.) We need to give the guy a chance to build toward next year and see what happens.

The question is how to do we know the rules of the game which seem to be evolving court decision by court decision? Its a luxury that the administration doesn't have to make a decision on its foootball and basketball coaches while everything is in flux.

With the pay going up in the P4 that will mean less players transferring out or down I believe. Smaller total roster size will limit how many players a P4 program can have. Its going to require a new recruiting strategy at some point once the changes settle down. Basketball what I've read is going to 15 scholarships. Does that allow for more depth at a place like Ohio? Its going to be a few more years yet for it to be sorted out.

Greetings to all Bobcat fans from Middletown, Ohio, where we are staying at a hotel after witnessing the slaughter in Oxford. I don’t have much in the way of wise observations. Our vantage point in Yeager Stadium was not good. You folks watching on TV probably could see it better. But, I’m in agreement that NP should start next week in place of Navarro. He seems to have a much better arm and seems to see the whole field better. What do we have to lose?

Here's the thing, Albin brought in some meaningful transfers who have done an amazing job: Owen, McNaboe, Leake, Bruno, Walker-Burgess, Tyus, Doggette and Johnson, to name a few, but the two places he really needed to hit a homerun were afterthoughts: Offensive line and quarterback. You can't lose the linemen we lost and a frigging Heisman candidate and replace them with a D-3 school that shut down its program (Heidecker is solid but not a stud) and a JUCO who nobody else wanted. If it's between Winters and Poulos next year sign me up for more apathy. We need to find a transfer quarterback who is not just salvageable but who is ready for action on day 1.

I freely admit that I don't understand current eligibility rules, but won't Navarro still be eligible one more year after this? That doesn't mean that he will want to continue to play, of course, but as I see it, he was a 2020 recruit. He didn't play in 2020, and then played sparsely in 2021. If one was his redshirt year, and the other was his covid year, shouldn't he have had 4 seasons to play at Ohio, meaning he would still be eligible in 2025?

In my many years as a lurker here, this is SOP! After a loss, the sky is falling. Get a two game winning streak going, and we are destined to win the MACC and go to the Rose Bowl. This board is known for its manic-depressive posters.

Yes, it is insane. But honestly, like most college boards there are a few that go nuts after an loss and a few that goes nuts after a win and a few that do both. I don't think we are worse here than anyone else. Honestly, from what I have seen we might be better than average at posters able to keep a more even keel.

How about WMU as team in the MACC? We likely wont play in the MACC without winning out

It’s likely a race for 2nd.

I certainly don’t think we have the offensive firepower to keep up with WMU - they’re rolling right now. But they also are the 2nd worst defense in the league. They’ve given up 80 more points than we have. They will see NIU and that’s just about it from here on out.

I see Toledo - WMU at the end, but my point was IF we take care of business - that 2nd spot isn’t out of reach. Though Toledo pretty much only has CMU and EMU coming up. If they stumble at either one, and possibly BG in a rivalry game… door is open.

Certainly, I’m not saying OU is gonna figure it out, I’ve been mostly down on them this entire season, BUT - we are still in that log jam. Some days Navarro looks like he can make decisions and others, it looks like he wouldnt start on an intramural team. His legs and turnovers will continue to write the tale of the season.

Down goes Toledo.

Consider that door wide open.
