Rolovich gone after refusing to get vaccinated. Several unvaccinated assistants are also gone. DC Jack Dickert expected to be named interim HC. Rolovich was seeking a religious exemption but it's not clear what has happened to that. Today was the deadline for all state employees in Washington to get the shot.

I daresay it is evident that his request for a religious exemption was not approved

It's known as denied by operation of rule/law.

Why are so many people in different walks of life like hospital nurses, airline pilots and various sports figures refusing to take the vaccine? Many of these are highly educated. Makes one wonder. Is all the virtue here just on one side? What about all the breakthrough cases? Just how good are these vaccines? I have a friend who won't take the vaccine because it was developed under the Trump administration. Lot's of people have different reasons. Some good, some not. Did you know that in recent weeks cases and deaths in most southern states have dropped rather dramatically, and these are the states with the lowest vaccination rates. Why the heck is this? I don't have answers, but I do have a lot of questions. I just don't understanding firing someone over this issue.

I don't think it is a mystery at all. The internet's led to a huge proliferation of conspiracy theories that have found worked their way into all walks of American life. And unfortunately we've learned that there are an awful lot of Americans -- educated and non -- who lack the reasoning skills to sift through the sheer amount of information available and separate nonsense from fact.

That there are a lot of people refusing this vaccine's the least surprising development of the entire Covid ordeal. Anybody paying attention over the last decade could have predicted it.

What virtue and what sides? Why, exactly, is the efficacy of this vaccine a political issue?

gedunkman wrote:

The available evidence all suggests that the vaccines are phenomenally effective. I get you're "just asking questions" but in what way is asking questions with obvious answers helpful? Why not try and answer your own questions?

Your friend is an idiot.

Were you surprised every time Lucy didn't let Charlie Brown kick the football? We've been seeing ebbs and flows in case rates consistently for two years now. We have a solution to this problem. It's the vaccine. That people are trying so hard to find a reason not to get vaccinated is truly baffling to me.

Why is this any different than other mandated vaccines?

One reason is that vaccination rates in southern states, while lagging behind most of the rest of the country, have increased in recent weeks. Back around Labor Day Georgia had 42% fully vaccinated, now it's 47%. Alabama and Mississippi were at 39%, now they're 44%. Louisiana and Tennessee were at 42%, now 46%. It's helped that a lot of the more well-known vax deniers have gotten covid and changed their tune. There might also be a bit of herd immunity going on there, but too many people had to die or be gravely ill to justify it.

I can sympathize a bit with your friend, gedunkman. I wasn't going to take any vaccine that was approved under the previous administration because I was convinced he would rush something onto the market before election day in an attempt to save his phony-baloney job. So even though the current vaccines were developed beginning last year, the fact that they weren't authorized until the Biden administration took over made me more comfortable about getting them. Gedunkman, you can tell your friend that I've have had both Pfizer shots for more than six months now and I haven't grown a third eye or turned into a lizard.

Actually, the Pfizer vaccine was authorized for Emergency Use on 12/11/20.

Moderna was Authorized for Emergency Use on 12/18/20.

Only the J&J vaccine was Authorized for Emergency Use after Biden became President.

In fact, President Biden received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on 12/21/20.
He got his second dose around January 11,2021.

Full approval of Pfizer didn't come till late August.
Moderna and J&J after that.

Will be entertaining to see how this plays out legally. Gotta assume lawyers are chomping at the bit to get at this case, especially because you know someone is going to rip that contract to shreds in terms of wording and all.

Regardless, gotta feel for the players on this one. Hopefully their season doesn't go into the tank, showed some signs of progress this year.

Yeah, that's the bad part. The players are always caught in the middle.

Masks.

I was at a Kroger in a suburb of Nashville an hour ago and they have gone back to "masks required" and the sign is posted on the front door. The recorded announcement that plays periodically states that 100% of employees are required to wear a mask at all times in the store and all unvaccinated shoppers are asked to.

And to stop super-spreading at concerts and NHL hockey...

Nashville, Tenn. (September 13, 2021) - Bridgestone Arena announced today that effective Oct. 2, all guests aged 12 and older will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test administered by a healthcare professional within 72 hours prior to the event that includes their name and the date of the test to attend all Nashville Predators games and events held at the venue.

Hope this answers the question with satisfactory specificity.

Those same states have also seen an increase in vaccination numbers over the past month. More people getting vaccinated....less people dying. Some might say that is a correlation. Others might say the math and science is a fraud. 750,000 can't say anything.

Seasonality. These states had spikes last year during the same period. There is more air conditioning use, tourism, and an influx of migrant ag workers in the region. If everything repeats, the northern states will get hit more during fall and winter. It mirrors flu seasonality.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not exactly sure how to process all of that information, as it seems not consistent. Let me leave a positive note here that maybe can make us all smile just a little:

https://news.yahoo.com/the-last-major-wave-of-infection-d...

It appears at least some experts are predicting we are entering the beginning of the end of the pandemic. If I read this right, it looks like both vaccinated and unvaccinated are helping out this effort to bring this disease to and end.

I should say that I'm vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine. I'm retirement age. I just completed both shots last month because I was hesitant because I had a very serious reaction the last time I had a flu shot. My doctor finally convinced me that this vaccine would not give me the same reaction. She was right, I had no reaction at all, except for a sore arm, to either the first or second shot.

Well let's all hope the optimists quoted in the article are correct.

What's going to be interesting to see is how many people get boosters.

When they were first announced, NJ planned on reopening their mega sites to deal with the crush.

Never happened.

You can walk in anywhere that has them.

There was an article in The Record yesterday,(sorry, you can't link it) that said over 80% of the people eligible for the Pfizer booster aren't getting it.

Based on my wife's patients, there's not a whole lot of interest.

I'm not sure I follow how you've reached the conclusion that the article you linked suggests both vaccinated and the unvaccinated are helping the effort to bring this disease to an end. How does the article suggest that?

Some people are willing to take their chances, but maybe some of the breakthrough cases will get people to change their minds. Also, people with immune system issues will likely be the first to get a booster.

Instead of using the Schott this time, Ohio State is giving boosters at four of its clinics around Columbus. Probably because the sports teams need the facility for their practices and stuff. We called for an appointment about two weeks ago and the earliest they had was November 5th.

According to Chris Vannini at The Athletic, Rolovich's lawyer is already in the process of seeking legal action for wrongful termination.

Apparently this has little to do with the vaccine mandate and is more about long-time friction between Rolovich and the AD. His suit claims that they've had problems for more than a year and that the AD has been looking to fire him since at least April, before the mandate went into effect. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32437269... .

Still, this whole thing shows little regard for the players by both the coach and the AD.
