There is a lot to learn in sports from winning and losing. And at youth level through college the most important thing a coach does is the character that he brings out and teaches in young men and women that they carry throughout their lives. Will teaching character keep you a job in college or most high schools no.. you also have to win. but i would rather have a coach be 8-4 every year and turn out great people. then win a championship every 3 years and turn out thugs and gangsters.
