I think there's a game on Saturday on ABC. At least in the beginning it should be interesting. The rules to speed up the game and others sound interesting. Some of the league rules look interesting. Things like: 1.Continuously running game clock,except for last 2 minutes of the half. 2.25 second play clock 3.Two timeouts per half 4.Extra points 5.Double Forward Pass Not sure about one foot in bounds. Looks like,combined with a 10 minute half time,it should speed up the game. One thing I don't intend to do is sit in Met Life stadium on a February or March afternoon. There's no offseason for football, mister!! But seriously, we'll see how this goes. At a minimum it seems like the XFL is on better financial footing than the AAF was. I hope it succeeds. Like RPBobcat said though, sitting in some of these games in the Northern part of the country isn't for the faint of heart. If there were a game in Cleveland this weekend you'd be sitting in snow. I do plan on watching. At least for now. Obviously it's a different story if the Bobcats have a basketball game on TV up here at the same time, as the Bobcats always get top billing! I plan on watching next week as well and i would think many who tuned in are looking forward to week 2. I really like the sideline coverage. Its really cool how reporters are able to interview players right on the sideline as soon as they come off the field. Coaches too. It really taps into the emotion of the game and gets viewers another look "inside". Now there was a massive F-bomb following a little skirmish and honestly, I hope we get plenty more. Its the XFL after all. The kickoffs are much better in my opinion and I really think the NFL could make the switch no problem. Its more or less the first offensive play of the drive as opposed to a fair catch 90% of kickoffs. One missed tackle from going taking it to the house and appears to do a great job of limiting injuries. I think the next step is to start marketing the crap out of the players. My only issue at this point is that I only know maybe 5 players total. It makes it difficult to bet/play daily fantasy if you don't know anything about the rosters. If they can figure out how to connect these guys to the fans, I see some serious potential. Major League baseball wants to expand the playoffs and now this XFL Madness. I don't know what's worse, XFL or the Arena League. I actually liked Big Time Wrestling in the 80s because it didn't take itself too seriously, there were good guys and bad guys, lots of humor and stagecraft. Then it had to become sinister and cutting edge. Seems to me the XFL is the 20s version of it, but somehow calls itself football. You can guys can have the drama, I will be watching college basketball. It kills the idea of a surprise onside, but I guess that works. Was wondering if you watched any of last week's games ? To me,except for a couple of different rules,it was just football. Not like the "original" XFL ,from a few years ago. Personally,I like the way they do kick offs. In fact,I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL goes to something similar to reduce high speed collisions. I also like the rule for ineligible receiver downfield and the "transparency" with replay reviews. Only thing, the rule changes,like a running clock didn't do,is speed up the game. Someone also mentioned on side kicks. I like what they did in the Pro Bowl this year. A team can opt for a 3 point extra point play if they so choose. Why mess around with it? One of the biggest complaints about NFL games is how long they take to play. The running clock is supposed to help with that. As I posted,the XFL kick off is a lot safer then the NFL. Arena football went Chapter 7.So they're gone. Never knew there was pro indoor soccer. As far as baseball,I agree about more playoff teams. Then again, the NFL is considering the same thing. Pro sports are always changing rules. 2 point conversion,extra point,kick off,touch back have all changed over time. I remember the outrage over allowing the three point shot in the NBA and college. Baseball also recognized the need to speed up the game. This season every pitcher must pitch to a minimum of 3 batters. Personally,I don't consider the XFL anymore of a mockery of football,then the old AFL or ABA. I remember the old ABA from when I was young. I even have some old ABA cards, which reminds me that I will have to check on their value. It seems sports cards haven't gone up much in 30 years, well at least compared to how they boomed in the 80s. Anyway, I could be wrong but wasn't the ABA competing against the NBA and outside of the 3pt line and the red, white and blue basketball, wasn't everything else pretty much the same? They just located in cities that weren't in the NBA. As as matter of fact, didn't the NBA just recently pay off the Silna brothers to the tune of $500 Million to get out of the crazy 1976 termination agreement that gave the St Louis franchise owners some weird percentage of NBA money "In Perpetuity." I believe this was because their franchise wasn't being absorbed into the NBA? I will have to look that up, but I think there might have been a segment about it in a 30 for 30 show on the ABA-NBA merger. Sorry for rambling, but that is an interesting topic. Re Major Indoor Soccer, during the 1980s our family became big fans of the Cleveland Force. Home games were in the Richfield Coliseum and the Force was consistently outdrawing the Cavs. 14,000 or more was common and for home playoff games the Force filled the Coliseum.
