all hs games east of charlotte have been moved to wednesday or cancelled. unc wilmington has cancelled classes for the week as has east carolina as both campuses will be evacuated. unc wilmington kids with no other options being housed at unc asheville. so i’d expect the app st game to go on as scheduled. far enough west. figuring the east carolina at va tech - game gets postponed since the campus is being closed and travel will be dangerous. given the forecast can’t see unc or state playing. also doubt our game takes place. should know all by wed night. stay safe carolina cats.

Looks like a lot of HS games in Virginia have been moved to Wed or Thurs as well.

Really kicking myself for being cheap.

I opted for the non-refundable hotel room in Charlottesville this weekend because it was a good $30 or $40 less expensive.

I guess Nashville is better than cancelling.
UVA fans would probably not attend due to conditions at home. Ohio may get some fans making the trip.
It would be hard to draw 10k people to this venue but it is better than a cancellation.

Seems like moving the game to Vanderbilt will cause headaches for both schools' fans.

In addition to what may going on in Va.,which may keep some people at home,now they have to make a 550 mile trek each way.
I would think that would require at least 1 night in a hotel,if you can find one.

O.U. fans with hotel reservations in or near Charlottesville are going to scramble to get a room near Vandy too.

At least O.U. should be able to fly into Nashville Airport.

I was thinking this entire event was my fault for buying a new Ohio Polo shirt and scheduling a tee time Sunday in Charlottesville.

There are round trip, non-stops from Cleveland to Nashville via SWA on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Do I throw myself into the chaos of airline travel this hurricane weekend?

If the hotel prices near Vandy are in the sticker shock range (and they usually are) try the Sam Riley Parkway exit off I-24 (Smyrna) about a 20 minute drive to Vandy on a Saturday. Maybe some of the airport area hotels.

Stay away from hotels near Trinity Lane, Dickerson Pike, Brick Church Pk, etc

I will be traveling with my father in law to the game. We had tickets to Charlottesville and I just got an email from StubHub they are refunding the full amount. So do we just waltz right up to Vanderbilt Stadium and walk through the gates (after being checked for weapons and such)? I am guessing it is first come first served general admission type seating?

We live in Sevier County, TN about 3 hours away so we'll be doing an out and back same day. So thankfully no worry about hotels.

Excited to watch our Bobcats! Nashville seems to treat the Bobcats well (NCAA Tournament). That Belmont basketball game in Nashville not so much though!

Our son used to live in Nashville - hotels are always outrageous. I’d check near the airport for bargains. Two words: Loveless Cafe. Real Southern food. What Cracker Barrel wants to be when it grows up. Worth the drive (and the wait)...

If you're willing to drive a little further, you might check for hotels in Murfreesboro (~30 miles). MTSU is on the road this weekend, so there may be some hotels there. For that matter, why not stay in Southern Kentucky, rather than Tennessee?

I hate to bring this up, but some of the newest weather modeling coming from the ECMWF (European model) and the GFS (American model) show the storm taking a western track once it gets into the North/South Carolina border which would take it more toward Tennessee than Virginia once it get inland. Both weather models have more detailed runs to come in after midnight, so we should know a lot more in the morning. Usually storms like this go up the eastern seaboard once they get into land, but Hurricane Florence may take a different path because of a very strong High pressure system which should be parked over the Great Lakes come Friday. I don't want to get into the weeds of weather geekdom here, but brace yourselves for the possibility of a more western track than originally forecasted. Stay tuned!

That has made them push back its landfall to early Friday morning.

Looking at the most recent models it looks like the storm wouldn't really affect Tenn. till Sun./Mon. but that all depends on the track/speed of the storm.

Maybe I am a uneducated simpleton when it comes to food but I thought The Loveless Cafe was one of the best Southern breakfasts I've ever had. I was in a wedding in Nashville the weekend after Hurricane Ike hit in '08 and it totally threw off the gasoline delivery to the Southeast (at least those areas supplied via the Gulf of Mexico). No gas to be found anywhere in the Greater Nashville area that weekend. Glad I filled up in Bowling Green, KY! Hope nobody has to experience that!

I've been waiting patiently for you to offer this up on your own but now I am just going to ask!

When has something like this happened in the past for Ohio Football?

Did our game in 1922 against the Portsmouth Odd Fellows have to be moved to the Chillicothe Polo Grounds because of flooding on the Hocking River?

All joking aside, props to the ADs and staff at both schools and a big thank you to the powers that be at Vanderbilt for making/allowing this to happen. Hope anyone making the trip to the Music City has a safe and great experience!

My group of 14 was headed to Charlottesville from Columbus/Athens - we had 4 rooms plus tickets. The hotel was great about cancellation and StubHub just refunded me the ticket x 14 money.

Moved the whole circus to Nashville in a few hours. Whole house AirBnB 1.5 miles from the stadium and no ticket costs plus a little closer travel makes the trip to Nashville officially cheaper than Charlottesville.

Unreal and bizzare scenario.
