Andrew, I've talked with a few knowledgeable basketball junkies about Wight. But I'd like to hear what you think.

Is he another of Saul's recruits that draws the ire of fans on BA for not being able to compete at the MAC level? Or is he another of Saul's recruits like JC or BVP, who are potentially future All-MAC performers?

He could honestly go either way, I think he is a true wild card. I'm confident in his character and work ethic and the desire to be a Bobcat. He definitely shows some explosive talent around the rim. Unfortunately I don't think he solves the #1 problem we have, outside shooting. I'll be rooting hard for him as the only kid to my knowledge to be from my hometown to play Bobcat hoops.

Wight was listed in the local rag as being among the leading rebounders in Central OH. He was not listed among the leading scorers. Injured the last month--here we go again with injuries among players and recruits. ugh.

If Worthington is Andrew's hometown, he should be very interested in what the young Sullinger kid is doing as a PG. Only a soph, holds offer from Kent St. Small kid, too, listed at 5'9"

Yes...I think we could end up seeing Sullinger in the MAC. Maybe he can elevate to a high major program, but being as small as he is, he would have to become a lights out shooter. Kilbourne has freshman and a sophomore worth keeping an eye on too.

Andrew, did I read somewhere that Bob Miller is Wight's coach? My first job out of Ohio University was covering high school sports for Suburban Newspaper Publications, a group of weekly newspapers in Central Ohio, in the mid 1980s. I recall Bob Miller being the Cardinals basketball coach back then. He can't still be coaching them, can he?

Miller retired 5 years ago. He was my health class teacher. Sean Luzader was his assistant for many years and took over as head coach and is there currently. Luzader was my keyboarding teacher. They're both great guys.

Senior Ben Wight was huge on the defensive end of the floor, tallying a final stat line of 12 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and five blocks......270 hoops

He goes for 6? This is what we are doing? We have a guy whose team obviously won without his contributions? Is it too much to ask to recruit guys who can at least get 10 every game in high school? Remember Springs' line of 4 ppg and 4 rpg? No offense to Wight but Gareri much?

FWIW, Jason Carter went for 8 points and 8 rebounds in a tournament game which his team won. Wight may not be Carter, but please stop basing your opinions off one game that you probably didn't even watch.

Not in box score from yesterday's loss. Either didn't play or went scoreless.

Soph Sullinger, son of JJ and grandson of Satch, scored 33.

From what I have been told. He also broke a collarbone bone. Per Will Ryan in the pre-game chat before the Miami game in the Rohr room.

Since we are talking about Sullinger in this thread, here's some information that a pal that I trust passed along to me after attending the district finals at the Cbus Convention Center.

Those involved in the T. Worthington program felt Sullinger was the best player on the team this year (Wight was second). There is a feeling that if the kid works hard he could be the top player in the state by the time he's a senior. Keep in mind that as of now, the '21 class is no great shakes, particularly after Meechie Johnson at Garfield Hts went down with a knee injury. Jack Sawyer at Pickerington North, Kalen Etzler at Crestivew and Seth Wilson at Akron SVSM are the names most mentioned currently. Rumors abound that Sawyer, already committed to play football at Ohio State, may forego basketball his senior year. Sullinger only lists Kent St as an offer. My pal, after seeing him play, asked me why Ohio hasn't offered him. I didn't have an answer. I have no idea whether we've offered anyone in Sullinger's class. Ooops! I see we have at least one offer out there.

If they're as good as they think he's gonna be, it won't matter if Ohio offers.

Please shut up when you dont know what you're talking about. Wight left the game early throwing down an and 1 dunk. Broke his collarbone & suffered a concussion while his foot still wasnt 100%...all the while you're writing him off because of one point total in one incomplete game. Give me a break. TWHS was doing well before Ben's injury, then struggled including losing to Bradley twice. Then beat Bradley when he was back. Then lost once he was out again. But please tell me more about how his team doesn't need him smartypants.

Aw, the statsheet tells him everything he needs to know. You have to love guys who don't go to a game, never see a kid and pass judgement based on that one game score sheet. It would be interesting to go through all of our favorite Bobcats and pull out single game stats we could use to forecast how they should have turned out compared to how it actually did.

More explosive of an athlete than I would have guessed.

Sure, but he was playing against a bunch of 5-foot-7 white kids.

Is there any AAU footage out there of him playing against athletes?

Memphis and Columbus are about the same size if I recall.

But for some reason the "big boy ballers" in Memphis are bigger and better than what was in that clip. And quicker/faster and more skilled.

By a bunch.

Forget that YouTube. Thomas Worthington is in the OCC, one of the most competitive conferences in Ohio. I'm guessing he faced much tougher competition than what is in the YouTube.

I try not to be biased, I haven't seen the kid play. and maybe he can be coachable an be a nice project guy. I hope. I looked for his mention in the Dispatch All-Metro and didn't see him mentioned. I didn't look through the honorable mentions . the numbers with him aren't making me write home. Maybe he will be better than cheerleader Tom Jamerson. we need Rush Floyd's son
