Dear Ohio Football Team,

You no longer need to prove to us that 30 minutes of solid play is not enough to win a football game. We believe you!!

Sincerely,

Ted! How dare you logically critique Tim Albin's expert decision making! You should take a self-imposed ban!

He has been part of this coaching staff for 14 years! Longest tenured coaching staff in the MAC!

In all seriousness ... I don't know why we are surprised by this.

They run the option once today and it scores a TD. Other than that, I think 21 of the 22 RB carries were right up the middle with the longest run being 11 yards.

I just don't get it. It's so awful. Cut Rourke loose ... let him chuck it 30+ times a game and maybe those runs will open up.

+1 I agree we should cut him loose, the line was awful today though. Smith got his gold jacket today.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Wow, this is turning into one of the most frustrating/disappointing seasons in Ohio football that I can remember. And, look, I've seen a few good seasons of OHIO football and a lot of bad seasons the last 60 years. At this point, I hope this staff realizes their program has become pretty stale, predictable and unexciting. Sometimes, it is just time to say we have had a good run but it is time to ride into the sunset and turn the program over to a new crew.

Oh, a bowl game this year? Guys, unless things turn around real fast we will be lucky to win 5 games.

The one thing this team has NOT done that some previous teams have done in the last few years is look like they don't care.

It has happened at least once or twice a year for the last few years.

UB last year ... that WMU, BG, UB stretch a few years back ... the post-Miami tailspin in 2012.

I will be very, very interested in seeing if this team puts it's head down and gets dump-trucked at WMU or Miami ... or god forbid drops one to BG next week. We have seen our fair share of homecoming debacles vs. CMU and Ball.

But you are dead on ... stale and predictable. But I just don't think they're going to ride off into the sunset anytime soon. I think they are a stubborn bunch and they're going to keep bashing their proverbial head into the brick wall with this same game plan over and over in hopes that it will someday work.

Sadly, I don't think it ever will.

Mark my words. Frank Solich will retire as the winningest coach in MAC history and Ohio Bobcat history and somehow do it with no championships. That itself will be quite a feat.

Where were the defensive adjustments to Childers getting his gold jacket against us? What about the face guarding. The coaches share some of the blame.

I respectfully disagree. If Rourke doesn't lose the ball on the drive we were moving on we put the game away and we aren't having this discussion.

Exactly, the game is about ball security and we have none.

Sucks to lose.
Sucks to lose a game we could have won.
Sucks to lose a game we could have won if we weren't -3 in turnovers.

But for some reason I just feel "meh" about the whole situation. Maybe I'm not a "real fan" anymore. Idunno.

Hope we win next week. Will probably feel "meh" if we don't. At least there will be a parade and I'll get to drink beer with long time friends.

Indeed. Ohio's offensive line was supposed to be a huge strength but it was not up to the challenge of the best defensive line in the MAC.

I don't feel "meh" about today, but I'm not surprised. Maybe I'm not a "real fan" either. Our D hasn't been able to put together 60 minutes all year, so our offense has had to carry the load. The D has improved the past two weeks, but still has trouble closing the door against good teams. And it's clear that MAC teams are onto the UTM-first nature of our offense and are loading the box. Still, we insist on running it UTM.

We have two winnable home games left before hitting the November home stretch. If we can be 5-3 going into November we MIGHT get bowl eligible. But we need to win the next six in order to take the East. At this point, that doesn't look doable. Unless the D figures out how to put 60 minutes together and the offense becomes less predictable, the preseason polls will be just another pipedream.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Ted Thompson made mention that our play calling was a little backwards. Rourke has now improved his passing % these last 2 games, 90% & 65%, yet we continue to run more than pass.
Rourke is gamer and give him more decision making to move out of the pocket and create.
While the year is not over, we were all looking for a big W yesterday.
As Frank would say, "the game is behind us and we have to look forward to next game and improve in a few areas".
I still believe in this team as we have all seen, anything can happen.
Who knows maybe we even run the table.

I shall keep the faith!!

We have 2 RVs full of my friends spending the weekend at Lake Snowden. As my girlfriend says I hope you guys make the game.

If OUr D holds up and we limit turnovers we can do this.

I’m sure the rest of the MAC is scratching their heads. Which Ohio team will we play?

With the emergence of Isiah Cox and improved Rourke play we could really surprise...depending on the play calling...cough cough wink wink.

Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat! Both this game and the Cincinnati game were well within our reach. Tough to lose games like these, but we weren't realistically expected to win either of these games, so we move on. After all, there is a lot of potential here to be optimistic about. Hopefully, this team will begin to gel, become more consistent, and play sixty full minutes of football.

Clearly, the preseason hype was just that: "hype." It is now time to accept what we really have and realize that the MAC is going to be a "cat fight." It seems as though any of these teams could beat one another on any given weekend. Might as well enjoy the ride, because this team is, at the very least, competitive.

Seeing as Frank has surrounded himself with a mediocre staff, why should we expect more than a mediocre program? I've finally come to this realization. We aren't building anything anymore. We will never win a title under this regime.

So, bshot44, can I assume you don't see the potential to be optimistic about that Maddog13 sees?

Potential - maybe that's the curse of the Bobcat football program another poster mentioned in another thread.

In addition to the staff, it is time to address the real elephant in the room:

Frank is a mediocre coach.

Optimism went out the window in 2013. That's when reality set in for me with this program.

7-8 wins ... bowl eligible. That's their goal every year and they usually meet it.

Until this regime rides off into the sunset (whenever that is) ... those are the expectations. Anything more is an added bonus.

I truly don't believe they'll ever win MACC with this staff. The inability to win big games or get over the hump and not lose games they shouldn't lose or blow games they're in control of will always haunt them.

I said it before ... Frank will finish as winningest coach in Ohio & MAC history and somehow never win a title. That itself is truly an amazing feat

Cincinnati is undefeated and ranked, Virginia beat Miami (not the "Redhawks," but the "Hurricanes"), and Northern Illinois (4 - 0 in League play already) is well on its way to winning the West Division of the MAC and, quite likely, the MAC Championship too. We are not a BIG-10 program (the League that cannot count) or part of the SEC (where Athens Native Joe Burrow is making waves), so what gives when it comes to the lofty expectations of this program? Yeah, a MAC Championship has alluded Solich and company up to now, but the program certainly seems primed to make a run for it this year with a little luck. Does anyone on this board truly grasp just how ridiculously far this program has come from being one of the most consistently pathetic doormats in Division I Football History? Expectations have reached almost delusional levels on this board.

The thing is we know what the potential is. That's why your "optimism" is basically saying we are who we thought we are, which is nothing more than a 7 win program that schedules like shit and can say have not had success in the worst division of football.

Buck, not sure that’ FS is a mediocre coach. What I do know is he is a mediocre recruiter. We have never put together enough good offense and defense of players in one year to win a championship. That is his curse. LC would probably disagree but I have said it for years.

We’ve discussed just how far Coach Solich has elevated this program ad infinitum and BShot has acknowledged same repeatedly. Solich really has elevated the program tremendously. No one questions that at all.

However, that’s NOT the issue. The question is, as it is with every single MAC coach (or any football coach at the college level in their own respective conferences), will Ohio win a MACC with Solich at the helm? And even Solich himself said, the goal of the program is to appear in the Top 25 and win the MACC. And through 14 years, Solich hasn’t done so. Can Ohio still win the MACC this year? Sure it can. Will it? I’m usually Joe Optimist but even I have to say that I doubt it. We’ll see who’s right and who’s wrong within the next month and a half.

I agree with much of what you say, but Buffalo looks like the class of the league to me. Will be interesting to see who’s right.
