A few random thoughts on a day that not much is happening and my mind is daydreaming:

1.  When we played the Martians a few years ago everyone on here talked about our "plain vanilla" offense.  Do you think that's what we'll see against Wofford, or will we have to do something more since we are not playing aliens in this game?

2.  Next, after Wofford, we play UT, a team we haven't beaten in loooong time.  We'll likely have to use every play in the book, I suspect, to win that one.  As a result we'll be showing the Evil Empire our whole playbook.  I just wish we didn't play them before we took on A&M.

GO OHIO!

I thought our playcalling, except for failed end-arounds to Scott Mayle, was quite vanilla for all of 2006. Of course, we had a much different look to our offense back then than we do now. Of course, the running back and wide receiver situations are different.

Please don't remind me of those... That play hasn't worked since the Dead Sea was only sick....

I know this should be not be a barn burner of a game but there are a few Ohio kids on the Wofford squad looking forward to this game. One particular player on Wofford was anticipating the trip to Athens at this time last year.

I think you do what is needed to ensure a W even if you have to go a little deeper into the playbook. I hope I am wrong but I think in this game, we will be on the other side of a similar scenario as the OSU game. It will be close through the first half and we will pull away in the second half with more depth and better athletes.

cross, do you remember the last OSU game?  Sort of a barn burner into the fourth quarter.  This year's Ohio squad should be a much improved team from the last one that faced the Evil Empire.  And, my friends who are A&M fans are giving me mixed messages about how good this year's Buckeye team is going to be.  Some think the team will not be as good as last year.  Those are the ones I'm preferring to believe.

Plain Vanilla, I hope not. I am not in favor of holding back. Too much is gained by getting the whole package in play early. If Ohio can get in the habit of taking command of games early there is the chance to rest and save starters while younger players gain game experience. I also want to give future defensive coordinators as much as we can for them to prepare. Anyway Ohio is not going to suprise anyone this year. Our heavy hitters are already on tape, either here or at Iowa State. Last year's stat sheet kept "Explosive Plays" and I would like to see a bunch this year, early and often.

Bread and Butter plays should be the plan against Wofford. Solid, fundamental football should be sufficient to handle most FCS teams. If we don't flinch, we'll be fine.

After that, I don't give a flying fig what we show that school up north in an effort to beat a Toledo team that has historically dominated us in humiliating fashion. In the grand scheme of things, the non-conference matchup in Columbus means nothing if we enter the day with a loss on the record. And even then, it will only mean something if we manage to do something the MAC has thus far failed to do. Our previous close calls and halftime leads were fleeting moments that felt good for a little while but meant bupkis.
