Saw some discussion about where Ohio might go if they beat everyone on their schedule and win the MACC.  In recent years we've seen plenty of undefeated teams get snubbed; what would be Ohio's fate?

Even if we run the table and beat a very, very, very good Ohio State team, there is no way we make it into the BCS with our schedule. The MAC is just too weak. Sorry folks, I just dont see it. A one or two loss SEC, Big Ten, or Big XII will vault us for sure.

I'm not naive enough to think that we'll go undefeated.

But I guarantee you that we BCS if we do.

It would depend somewhat on how Ohio State turns out. If Ohio State has an 8-4 season, that's probably not convincing enough. But if Ohio State does as well as most predict, then it would be hard to deny Ohio a BCS game at 13-0.

I'm with Monroe, though, it's a fun hypothetical scenario, but you're in for a big letdown if your expectations are for 13-0. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I know the odds aren't good. Too many uncontrolable factors go into a season like that.

Play in: Motor City Bowl (it still exists right?)

Hope for: Insite.com Bowl by way of the Big 12 (10, 3?) not having enough teams with 6 wins

Would be awesome if: Big 10 (12, 36?) didn't have 3 teams with 6 wins, and we got an invite to the Outback Bowl.

Other Possible Bowl Just for Fun:  Hawaii against a good team from the WAC.

More than likely, Ohio would not play in a BCS game. If I remember correctly, Ball Stated did the same thing a few years ago against somewhat inferior competition (i.e. no big names on their schedule compared to the Ohio State we have, but still solid D-1 competition) and was never in the running for a BCS game. Of course, it all depends on how many non-automatic qualifiers are also undefeated this year. Both Utah and Boise State were undefeated that year as well, so Ball U had no shot of making the BCS even if they did win the conference championship game.

Since it isn't likely, this is all speculation, but as a practical matter, the issue isn't that simple. As some have pointed out, it depends on how good of an Ohio State team Ohio beat, in the hypothetical. It also depends on how convincing the other victories were. Finally it depends on whether there are any dominant MWC teams. Had Boise State and Utah not both been dominant that year, Ball State would have probably gotten the BCS invitation.

Refer back to my innumerable rants on..oh.  That data is lost.

In quick form, it's this:  It is EXTREMELY diff to go undefeated.  Doesn't matter who you sched.  It's just difficult to do over 13 games.  So, if you do it, you will and should be in the BCS.  The BCS is about 12 teams, right?  So, you're in....Look at the low # of teams that go undefeated in a given year.

Cat4Ever has been posting the various pre-season polls.  The 'Cats, NIU, Temple, CMich, kents are all rated reasonably well.  If we go 13-0, I 100% absolutely guar that we get a BCS spot.

The alternative is to have Congressmen from Ohio getting sue-the-NCAA happy.  And that scares too many people for us to get kept out.

they would play in a BCS Bowl, but I think you have to look at other schools first. Boise State will go undefeated in my opinion and thus getting them a spot in the BCS National Championship.

I think BSU will lose to Virginia Tech.  But in any case, going undefeated with a win over what will be an excellent Ohio State team puts the Bobcats in the BCS, although maybe not in the BCS Championship game.  BSU and TCU each made the BCS last season even though neither had a win over a team as highly ranked (or as good, ultimately) as OSU will be this season.

A win over Ohio State in September would generate national publicity and likely have us enter the polls. The real problem would leaping over Boise State and TCU for that BCS bowl spot. If Ohio were the lone unbeaten in country that would likely put pressure on the BCS to take Ohio.  If we don't make the BCS the potential of an unbeaten Ohio beating a 6-6 Michigan team in Detroit would be sweet. A MAC team beating Ohio State and Michigan in the same year while going undefeated would really put the program on a new level and perhaps claim the title as the MAC's greatest team ever.  I'm sure we  would pull first place AP votes from midwest voters in that event.

I voted for a regular BCS Bowl. But we do need help to make sure. I doubt Ohio could be a 2nd non-BCS school to get an invite like Boise/TCU did last year because we don't have the cache to do it. So we need both of them to lose at least one game. It would help if Va Tech blows them out. Also helps if TCU loses twice.

Cuz really it would be interesting to see the strength of schedule between Boise & Ohio. Cuz really, besides their one big game every year, the competition they play is VERY similar to our schedule.

BUT if we don't make it, I can see us going to the bowl game that either Boise or TCU vacate due to the BCS Bowl they go to. So we could be headed to Idaho for our bowl game!!!

I'd like to have this conversation again after the fourth week of the season when we beat Ohio State. I'm not sure if BCS could happen if we beat OSU with the Boise/TCU situation (crazy isn't it?). Another possibility though is Ohio shipped out to a bigger than usual MAC matchup. When Boise didn't make the BCS in 2008, they matched them up with TCU who was also just short in the Poinsettia Bowl. In 2004 Boise played against Louisville (the CUSA champ) in the Liberty Bowl. In my Phil Steele mag, he has 2 of his power sets calling for Houston to go undefeated. I could see Ohio as a 12-2 MAC champ against Houston in the new Dallas Classic bowl. The MAC is a backup for the Big Ten in that game while CUSA backs up the Big XII.

There are several different variations of 13-0.  Sure, if we go 13-0, we would do it with a bigger marquee win than ANY of the other non-BCS teams ever had in the regular season...

However, if we are stumbling through the conference schedule, voters will use that as an excuse to drop us even if we're winning. A BCS bowl for a non-BCS conf team requires DOMINATION of your conference. We can maybe afford a close game on the road at Temple if they are having another good season.  There will need to be a LOT of 30's to single digit/low teen scores to attain and MAINTAIN a high ranking.

Another item I forgot is happening this year but read an article to remind me.

IF The Rose Bowl loses either the Big 10 or Pac 10 champion to the National Championship game, it MUST take the Non-BCS AQ. So, just saying... The 110 can be going back to the Rose Bowl Parade again!!!
