Coach gave a brief mention in the notes on Ohiobobcats.com on some position battles.  Indicated the interior line is still up for grabs...guess that means the tackle spots are locked down.  Any one got any guesses or insights?

Flading at right tackle seems logical.  Strum moves from LG =>LT?

Herman played quite a bit at RG last year, probably the favorite here.  On the other side Carlotta and Laudermilch saw some action.

Center spot should also be fairly wide open.  Guessing Skyler Allen and Alex Mitchell are the early contenders here.

That leaves Lechner, McGrath, Johnson, and Flowers trying to unseat the guys above.  Would assume Smith and Dietz go redshirt, although we did play James Davis last year as a frosh.

Good analysis of the O line outlook. It is an area where depth has been built. It is a position where guys get banged up and in the past we were plugging the holes with true freshman or asking players to go extraordinary minutes. Great job by Frank and company with props to coach Kevin.

True.

Now it's time to get a lot tougher and meaner and more effective (run, pass) on the O-line.

CFN gave pretty mediocre ranking to the O-line.  Prospective All-MAC team little respects the OHIO O-line.

What you gonn' do 'bout that?

Sadly, there are three lineman that are done due to medical reasons.  Matt Britian, Dustin Laudermilch, and John Flowers.

That means Carlotta or Johnson or Lechner need to step up.

Sad to see football careers end due to injury. Best of luck to all three Bobcats in the future. Maybe redshirts for Smith and Dietz aren't foregone conclusions.

At least Smith and Dietz may be needed for depth......Ryan McGrath also may get a shot.

Agreed Depth may be an issue that could remove a few redshirts. Looks like from what I could see on the DAY 2 Video the offensive front at this point (yeah I am that bored, had some time to kill in an office) from left to right Strum, Carlotta, Allen, Herman and Flading. Does Lechner have a shot to relieve somebody at a tackle?

Had some folks in town yesterday for the Reds Game. After talking to them about football in Athens, I wanted to jump off a bridge.

One of the guys works in the Athletic Department (not for the football team) and the other is close to the program. Neither felt good about the O line or the RB positions. Really bumbed me out. O linemen hurt or flat leaving the program.

I thought this team was locked down except for RB which we knew would be by committee. I sure as hell hope they have it wrong.

Hopefully the bleeding has stopped.

Seriously.

We pretty much lost an entire string of linemen since last season.

As for the new walkons, Stump is a guy you can get behind (as is his former teammate Crane). Hopefully it works out for them in the future.

Has the lineman we have lost been posted here (and for what reason)? Please point me to that thread if it exists.

Off the top of my head:
Cole Bunner (injury/grad?), James Davis (transfer/family issues), Kadre Pinder (grades), Matt Britain (injury), Dustin Laudermilch (injury) and (reportedly) John Flowers (although he's still on the roster whereas they removed Laudermilch).

Diamond the Reds performance sure couldn't have helped the mood of the day.
Certainly we would rather still have guys like Davis and Pinder in the mix but they aren't. Guys like Carlotta and Lechner, McGrath and maybe a few frosh will have to step up. The right side of the line is solid. Strum has the ability to play we just have to see how he transitions to tackle. The O-line is a huge concern but there are capable players who have experience still on the roster. Bummed about the running game? Of course everyone who follows the program is. They didn't do jack squat in the running game a season ago and won the East. No doubt it is an area of concern but don't cash in the season.  We have to see what Davidson and Boykin can do early on. Maybe week six Harden comes back with fresh legs and a chip. Time will tell.

Good thing coaching was savvy enough to recruit a lot of O-liners.  Imagine if we'd started out with just moderate depth here.

Way down your list are Lechner, McGrath and Johnson; returning from redshirt years, players I expect to see relief minutes for the starters.
