No quarterbacks.

Temple has the running back and both of their defenses look decent.  But not much offense heah.

There's no reason to think, based on tonight's first half, that we can't play with these teams.  If our O-line had shown more last week, I'd be more confident.

How do we know the MAC is a great conference?  'cause, despite MAC football's jr. high level internet/tv package, the really miscellaneous MAC promo they keep playing at halftime (no commerical sponsor sales??) tells us so.

could we maybe have a MAC promo where we don't list one of our strengths as "being gracious in defeat."? Is it too much to ask for a TV commercial where we don't brag about how good the MAC is at losing?

Agree about the sloppy play of TU and CMU. not impressed. And this 6th rate production value of ESPN U isn't helping things either. Too bad the MAC can't get an upgrade to ESPN channels A - T.

Wow.  That game was brutal.  Bad football.  Game stats on yahoo say the teams completed 42 of 58 passes.  Really?  It felt like they completed 22 of 58.  No O.  On the last play of regulation--a fumble scrum at the end of a qb sack--the officials invoked the mercy rule by letting the clock run several extra seconds after the play was pretty clearly over.

We gotta be better than these teams.

No Worries, Ohio will kick Temple's butt! Temple has a heisman hopeful? they may not have a winning record.

First games are usually almost exhibition with the biggest improvement most normally between games 1 and 2. That said Temple doesn't look very strong after game 2 in defending the pass and should have lost the game if not the CMU turnover. Receiving game will again be a big advantage for the Bobcats in Philadelphia this November. Dallas Brown and Boykin will keep the Temple defense honest with a few breakout runs. We have better QB's than Temple too.

B.Price was out for a good chunk of the game with a hand injury of some kind. He was disquietingly good when he was in, but at the rate he seems to pick up injuries he's looking likely to miss a MAC game or 2.

Here is the real story......attendance 15,000.
This is pityful for a team in a major city like Phila playing in a pro stadium.
Pityful, just plain pityful.

Speaking of Temple. Looks like Villanova might be joining the Big East in football. I'm guessing they would have to move their home games to Lincoln Financial field too. Nova's football stadium is not much bigger than high school stadium.

GO BOBCATS

No matter how big time they want to think they are, Temple seems to be a bit of a joke around here. My roommates were laughing at how empty The Linc was for the game. Even for the Mayor's Cup I think the attendance was only around 30,000. Hopefully in November we get a strong Bobcat following. I'd love to see that place filled with green and white!

Also, Delaware (FCS) brought in over 20,000 for West Chester University (Div. 2), and the atmosphere was great. The stadium only holds around 22,000 so it was pretty packed.

at that point, CMU's running game was going NOWHERE. Temple's run d is formidable and they will be hard to score on. I hope we can repeat our performance through the air against them this year. having a multi-dimensional qb definitely helps.

If we played in Paul Brown against another MAC school, do you think the shots on TV would look like a big crowd?

This is said each year after one or the other of these televised games so let's get it out of the way early in 2010:

That game and that crowd has set MAC football back ten years.  No amount of lipstick will dress up that pig.

And, BTW, is there no end to the bad things that CMU will do to us?  I look upon that W as outright gift to Temple from the good people of Mt. Pleasant.

1. Unfortunately no, but we're not located in the heart of Cincinnati. As much as I would like to become OHIO's team, Cincinnati has their own university to root for.

2. We would draw more than 15,000. I'm sure of it.

3. I think back to the Temple fans who came on here last year ranting about how they are too big-time for the MAC. My point was not that we were more big-time than they were, my point is that they are not.

I was at the Link for the Ohio game in 2008 and the crowd was likely 50% smaller for that game than it was last night.  It's a great facility and they should really draw far more for a game just becasue of where they play ,considering that an entry level Eagles ticket will cost you 5x that of a Temple game tick.

That being said, I can't wait to fill one of those seats on 10/16.

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

Major cities rarely support College teams real well.  As for your comment about the heart of Cincinnati, have you ever checked their attendance numbers?  Last two years have been solid, but last 10 years horrid!

Pitt does not draw great, UCLA either, USC only lately on their winning streak and "place to be" world of LA, Miami of Florida does not draw well, Houston either, and they all play in conferences far more appealing than the MAC.

I'm well aware of the lack of support for UC football prior to the last few years. I didn't mean that Cincinnati would sell out Paul Brown either. In my opinion though, they would pull in more than 15,000 against just about anybody. Temple was good last year, they're supposedly the best team in the MAC this year. Does that not get them more than 15,000 for a game that is nationally televised?

Also, in 2008 (the first numbers I could find from a google search) Pitt averaged just over 49,000 per game. Miami just over 46,000. NC State, who plays in Raleigh and had a 5-7 record that year,  averaged just over 56,000. Kentucky, who went 2-6 in the SEC in 2008, averaged just over 69,000. Washington, who finished 0-12 (Miami Redhawk bad), averaged just over 63,000 per game to watch them get spanked week in and week out.

I know these teams play in BCS conferences, but in the last three cases they were still very bad! Also, I know there are a million variables that could be pointed out as to why these schools brought in fans and Temple doesn't. The bottom line is that if Temple is so big-time, and is ready to move on from the MAC, then where are the fans?
