Get ready for a long year

The O-line is terrible, the Qb's are terrible. The coaching is absolutely terrible. The bobcats need to recruit at least 7 O linemen, 2 Qb's and 2 Rb's. Boo has no arm strength or pocket presence. Vince Davidson is just there. The O-line needs 3 new starters. The coaches call terrible predictable ultraconservative plays and the Qb stillthrows int's. The players are overconfident and not making plays. Cameron Heyward might win the heisman next week. I am sorry.

He has the arm of Johnny Damon and plays quarterback.

Boykin and Clark no carries. We need better quarterbacks. T3 was average everybody els is subpar. We need to really hit a homerun this year with Qb's, Rb's and OL's.

So, what was the final score?

I have said all along that they did not have a running game and the O Line was weak at best. Can't win without a running game and now a poor passing game, too. Sounds like they proved me right tonight.

Can anyone say massacre at OSU? Maybe they have played conservative holding things back so OSU does not have much tape to look at in preparations for the game next week. Ohio is going to come out with a different play calling scheme next week. Yeah, right..............

I feel sorry for T Mccrae, probably has nfl potential and wont get a look. The goodnews is that we havetalent at WR coming back.We probably have talent at TE but we don't use them. We need a quaRTERBACK BAD

I can deal with a loss. Thats fine, its going to happen.

What I can't deal with is the defending MAC East champions putting up 183 yrs of total offense. I can't deal with a record setting, red shirt Sr QB that looks like he's never stepped on a football field before and can't see receivers 5+ yards down field, and I can't deal with an offensive line that was touted as the best we've ever had in the preseason allowing that type of penetration, and 1.6 yrds/ carry from our backs. I'd be upset if these were our stats against A&M, nevermind a MAC opponent.

Kudos to the defense for holding Toledo to 102 on the ground and 110 in the air. And we're lucky to have a kicker like Weller that can nail a 49yrd FG without breaking a sweat.

I need to go take a shower, I feel dirty.

Dull, sloppy football.

Toledo's kicker couldn't even make what looked like easy field goals.

Liberty 27 - Ball State 23

Baylor 34 - Buffalo 6

Gardner-Webb 38 - Akron 37

Tulsa 33 - Bowling Green State 20

This is progress?

Theo Scott always won games and moved the team when healthy. Boo Jackson has always lost and turned the ball over when healthy.

John, I was there and thought the offensive line and the coaching were the real problem. Boo has shown he can play well - I think you're overstating things.

Boo looks terrible,he is the weak link. It might be because of the surgery but comeon, he could have thrown 8 ints this week and 6 last week.We probably have three All-MAC receivers but the coaches are afraid to let him pass because he has no arm strength.

Yeah, but remember the OSU game two years ago. Boo had a great game but also made critical mistakes in judgement when it mattered on drives that could have pushed Ohio to a win. Too many mental errors, fumbles and interceptions does not make for a winning quarterback. Look at Marshall's and Michigan's quarterbacks, they are young, exciting, they get the job done and do not make the mental errors that Ohio seems to make on a consistent basis. I cannot believe with all of the great high school QB's out there that we cannot seem to land at least one that can run this offense. However, I do agree that is makes things tougher if the O Line does not do their job especially when they were touted as one of the best in Ohio's history.

They lost Laudermilch, Britain, Davis, Pinder and Bunner (from last year) from the OL. Probably a starter or two and definitely a hit to depth. This is in addition to losing two senior anchor starters (White and Rogers) to graduation.

The biggest problem on offense right now is the OL. Blaming Solich is stupid. If they can't fix it then I agree it will be a long season.

Regarding Boo, after watching him the last two weeks it's clear he has no arm strength which is not surprising. It can take awhile to regain strength after labrum surgery. Boo is still a very good athlete. The coaches have to figure out who gives them the best chance to win.

Just got home. OU looked terrible and I don't know where to even start. I am afraid we could be looking at a year much like the one 2 years ago where we just seemed to shoot ourselves in the foot time and time again.

This is the same guy that led Ohio to bowls and division titles and 9-win seasons just last year and in 2006, right? Seems like every year he has one or two bad losses early or by mid-season that make everyone groan (about everything from position coaching to playcalling, from game planning to situational game decisions) and then by the end of the season he's done something that makes Ohio fans happy.

I'm as skeptical as anyone after reviewing the game stats, etc., and I have to believe that this is one of the low points of the Solich era at Ohio. But I don't see why those Ohio fans who have believed in him to this point would now throw him under the bus. It actually seems like a pretty typical beginning to a season for him, imho.

DUH.......the guy is coming off MAJOR Shoulder Surgery and couldn't throw till two months ago.

Sure, a poor O-line may not have helped, but he turns it over regardless.

Ohio and Toledo were virtually even in one respect: the two offenses were inept. The game ranks as perhaps the most boring affair since the Lichty era.

Even Ohio's TD couldn't get me ramped up. It came on a play that looked as though it might have been a Q-back keeper that was jammed up and Dunlap had the smarts to keep running.

Was Boykin hurt?

Who is coaching kickoff coverage?

Who is threatening laps and more laps if O-linemen can't move on - and not before - the snap count?

Who is calling 4-yard slants and flares on 3rd and long - repeatedly?

I could have used a snooze alarm to wake me for the walk to my car.

In Coach Solich's post-game interview, he said something about some aspect as the most distressing of his career.

Strangely, I "got" why Tim Albin was calling the plays he was calling. He felt his line couldn't protect and Boo couldn't chuck it downfield. But if we were going to go down once it was 20-13 and had the ball with seven minutes to go in the game, at least get picked off on a pass that had some hope to it...not a four-yard stab into the center of the field. McCrae is eight feet tall. Have Boo start lobbing up some passes on fades. Boo's arm is perfecgt for the fade pass right now.

By the end, Ohio was running what was essentially the single-wing offense. Ugh.

I can only imagine Boo's frustration to be put into this situation where you're not healthy and you have a piece of police tape protecting you from the opposing defensive line. (I give the coaching staff a passon the o-line given the weird injury and transfer circumstances that made that happen).Bates looked so wrapped up on that hand that he would have been struggling out there.

That said, on three interceptions, it wasn't arm strength but decision-making that was the culprit. Telegraphing where he was passing the ball, late throws and throws into double coverage. If you can't throw, you can't make those type of errors (see: Jake Delhomme).

Has this staff really been unable to recruit a quarterback who wasn't a transfer and had the ability to throw the ball downfield. They've to their credit assembled a fantastic group of receivers, a stout defense, really good skill people...and they didn't get a quarterback.

They chose to bring in three read-option quarterbacks. (To be fair, Boo was a passer coming in, wasn't he? Well the injury has made him a read-option quarterback.) They tend to get injured. They tend to stink in the 2-minute offense.

I don't think Tettleton has a future as OU's starting quarterback...but he has to be better than a guy who can't throw? Isn't he?
