Thoughts on getting under the skin of osu fans

With the understanding that the task on the field is monumental (but not impossible....the line has moved to +30, so apparently gamblers like our chances a little better than the bookmakers did originally), the least we as OHIO fans should try to do is assert our general superiority as human beings over the A&M faithful. The game is not played just on the field. It's also played in the hearts and minds of everyone watching. Like that one guy in "Gladiator" said to Russell Crowe: "Win the crowd, and you win your victory "(or something like that).

The enemy in this instance really is the Empire: monolithic, oppressive, unyielding, stubborn. Yet, they have their sensitivties, their hallowed ground, their traditions so precious that any deviation is repugnant. And it is these supposed sanctities that we, as fans, must exploit.

The chants "OH-IO," "O-H-I-O," and all other derivations of "Ohio" we have a handle on: we simply add "U" to the end, and voila, we win that round. I've been wondering whether they've put any thought into a counter to our move. The only thing I can think they would be able to pull off is a "sucks" after the "U". It's simple, and I think even their fans could get it through their heads that they should do it for this game. I doubt it, but it's possible. I've been wondering how we should counter that if necessary. Somebody help me out.

There's one other tradition I've thought of that we need to address/trivialize: Script Ohio. I've seen it in person. It's not that impressive. Sure, the first time it was done (**cough** by Michigan **cough**) I bet it was pretty sweet. But they do it every single week, every single year. You follow the same path each game, doing the same thing. And dotting the i? A dude runs out and bends over. Whooptie doo. But osu fans go nuts over it (no pun intended).

Ideally, I'd love to see the 110 do it (while playing "Hollaback Girl," or some equally dismissive song), just to show them that (1) our band can learn in a week the formation that they think is so impressive, and (2) that we are Ohio, and we're not going away. But, we as fans have no control over the 110, and I'm sure whatever they have planned will be awesome.

So, here's what I'm thinking. This Script Ohio thing is supposedly such an impressive thing that EVERYBODY has to see it to believe it. Well, let's not watch. Drawing inspiration from the O Zone at basketball games , I propose that the residents of Bobcat Attack -- regulars, occasionals, and lurkers all -- distribute newspapers among the Bobcat fans with the instructions to turn our backs during Script Ohio, pretending to read the paper rather than watch what is going on on the field. It's simple, effective, and will confuse the hell out of everyone in red.

Nicely done C Money, nicely done. Do you think we could get enough copies of The Post (or even, shudder, the ANews)? Or what about that rag of a student paper they have at the cow college?

As for the chant...I just don't see their fans having the requist fleetness of thought to counter-sabotage the UUUU. Still...if they were to do so, we could always switch from "UUUU" to "State"...at least until they were confused again.

I think you are putting too much thought and effort into this. I think they'll just laugh it off like two years ago. It's all in a good fun and light-hearted.

I always thought this was awesome... Well worth the personal flag in a rivalry game, IMO. State may not consider us a rival, but I'd love to get it in there heads we are there to win... If we scored first...

I know the OSU fans thought this was cute. I personally thought it just reaffirmed for them in their minds that they are O-H-I-O and we are O-H-I-O-U

Nothing gets under the skin of A&M fans more than us giving them a close game. 08 made them VERY uncomfortable. If you check out their boards there are some dudes over there that spew the most absurd vitriol over little old OU, its absolutely hilarious. Can you imagine being a fan of the #2 team in the country and having that much rage over a MAC school? What an inferiority complex. It's pretty obvious some of those guys are trying to over compensate for SOMETHING. *cough*cough*

As for OUr fans, wear your green and white, cheer your heads off and stick around at half time so you can cheer on the 110. We might not out score them, but we can definitely out class them.. and out party them.

Now that would be legendary. And also pretty much guarantee a return trip never occurs.

I propose any time the do anything "OHIO", we wait until they pipe down...then we start chanting "we are OHIO, you are state!" we could even do "A and M!" a few times. any takers?

Doesn't the band already do an OHIO formation? Basically their logo?

If we were to score first why stop with just the team charging the endzone? Cheerleaders rush the field...Band rush the field...Fans rush the field!!!!! Just like in the movie Victory!! Then we all just leave through the tunnel and trash the Varsity Club.

If things get out of hand the other way, I suggest something like this after halftime.

Yes. The Ohio band does the "Diamond Ohio" formation during every pregame show. That wasn't what the original poster was referring to. OSU band does a "Script Ohio" formation where they spell out the word "OHIO" by playing follow the leader. There's big fanfare and great hoopla when some tuba prances out to "dot the i". The ironic humor that was being suggested would be in that if OSU scripts the word "OHIO" and we are OHIO, then the 110 should mockingly script the word "STATE" for them.

I think it would be hilarious. I could have seen it possibly done during the Socciarelli years in the '80s. The world is too politically correct these days though. Just an example, in the pregame show, the 110 marches the flags of every team in the MAC conference. On home games versus Miami, the tradition was to march with the Miami flag upside down. Pretty harmless fun that was squelched sometime in the mid-90's.
