one bad game...and with such bad play calling....bates is putting up stellar numbers...but oh well.. run the ball...run the ball...run the ball...can't pass the ball.....run the ball....oppps said that already......every team is going to be waiting for the run....if you can't pass good luck runnin.....but I know nothin about football....

an L was expected, a closer game was hoped for. since it is what it is so early both teams are now using this time to tune up for the rest of the season. We need reps for Bates if we're going to have a chance at winning the MAC this year. We've got a winnable rivalry game in Huntington next week and we need to have a QB that's confident going in. I'm not excited about either option but long term I think Bates is our best bet.

what's bates resume say.....oppss no resume stats....didn't even start in Iowa....so what makes you think he can throw the ball in OHIO....the fans to look at the numbers....yeah Boo had a bad game...look at the numbers...who has the better stats???? just answer the question....

the broken play was because there was a pump fake that took the db out of his jock strap.....if you can't move the pocket and pass because of the lack of an OL then nothing is going to happen down field....but you guys can sit and wait for bates to pass the ball for you....Ohio will lose games until they can throw it down field...and complete the pass.....very easy for defensive coordinators to defend this offense.....

Did you miss the 5 throws Boo throw directly into the ground, and none of them were longer than 10 yards? He has no arm strength. Why do you think he never throws over the middle of the field, always short screen passes and sideline passes.

I like Boo, a lot, but it's clearly not going to make a difference who is at QB. They both have their faults and mixed in with all the other problems with this team, Boo is not going to make a difference.

Forgot to mention the INT's deep in our end.

Both these QBs suck at throwing. Is there someone else?

Boo.s td pass was awesome he played good . A lot better than bates who had a fumble and how many interceptions? Bates is bad . When boo was in we converted on 3rd downs and a 4th down. Bates did not convert any enough said, boo should of played this whole game, we wouldn't of won but we would of scored more than 7 that's for sure

If we would have attempted the 60+ yard field goal in the first half, we could have had at least 3 points in the first half. I'm extremely confident in out kicking game and special teams, the rest (offense and defense) not so much....

As the last poster said when Boo went against the same first team defense Bates did he was about the same. Once Ohio State put in the reserves he was able to get clicking. The TD pass was beautiful but it's another week of the starting QB doesn't have a great day and then all of a sudden the back up comes in and plays a little better. I wonder if the cat and mouse game of trying to hide who the starter is going to be week to week has a negative effect on the two QBs.

Yeah, if it were the starters he would have turned it over 8,000 times as well/per the usual.

There's only so much you can do when you have to choose between two QB's who gift wrap it for defenses.

It is time to bring Templeton in. Forget the redshirt. We have a frosh from Barberton who is a good thrower, but feet may be not as good. Plus Roback may be available. Put in at the running back

When the spot came out OSU - 30 , I posted we would be lucky to gain 30 yards. I wasn't far off. NOTHING surprised me today. From players or coaches. Oh well, take the money and run.

I didn't see last week. I concede that Boo was as bad then as you all say.

And forget the td pass today, though it was a nice toss.

Didja see the two or three balls that Boo zipped to Riley and whoever else today about 20 yards downfield.

Nuff said. There's your starting qb for the rest of the season.

Place an * by each of these comments as I realize we were playing the #2 team in the country who has national title aspirations. There's a reason we got paid $850,000 to come to town and that we were 30 pt dogs.
Secondly, I don't have the stat sheet next to me, just commenting on what I recall.

That was as big a mismatch as any sporting event I can ever remember witnessing. This was just awful today. A total no contest. If you're going to get thrown in the ring with Tyson for $850,000 to take a fall, at least throw a few round-houses and see if you can get lucky. We seemingly ran up the middle 90% of the time and didn't even give ourselves a chance to get lucky.

About midnight last night I watched Russ' and Rob's Keys to the Game. They included obvious things like: (1) keep defense off the field for long stretches; (2) avoid the short field; (3) get lucky with a few big plays; (4) play mistake free. WE missed the memo as we appeared to mistaken these with the things to do wrong as quickly as possible.

If my memory serves me correctly:
(1) We throw a pick the first series of the game. SHORT FIELD/MISTAKES
(2) When did we get our first 1st Down and when/how often did we cross midfield? SHORT FIELD/DEFENSE ON FIELD
(3) We block a punt and turn it right back over GOT A BREAK, COULDN'T CAPITALIZE
(4) We return a kickoff for a TD early in game CHANCE FOR THAT BIG PLAY/EARLY CONFIDENCE/WOULD'VE BEEN HUGE!--Penalty brings it back
(5) We ran the most conservative offense ever HARD TO GET LUCKY ON A FEW BIG PLAYS WHEN YOURE RUNNING UP THE MIDDLE EVERY TIME. YOU GOT NOTHING TO LOSE, AT LEAST TRY. I remember a few times saying that if I was still playing Nintendo football and things were going like this, I press the "Hail Mary" play every time. At least try when you know you can't get more than 2 yard on a run play up the gut.

I looked up a couple of times and saw time of possession, yardage, 1st downs and it was more lopsided than the score indicated. We took their keys to the game and checked them off our list very quickly. Once again that may have been mostly due to the quality of oppenent who was imposing their will upon us, but I never felt we gave ourselves a shot with the constant mistakes and lack of offensive creativity or even attempting to throw a wrinkle or two into the game plan. This was a 1st Round TKO. Too bad college football doesn't have the 10 run rule or TKO's and we had to play this one out.

That's a bunch bull s@#t, if bates stayed in against the 2's and 3's he still couldn't have moved the team down the field...just knew that someone was going to say some sh@t like that.....
