Judging by the way Coach keeps standing up for Bates I'm starting to wonder if Boo will be given a fair shake.  I'd bet promises were made during the talks about transferring before Boo's medical RS came into play.  I really think we could do some serious damage with Boo under center and Bates carrying but we may never find out...

Again my point....who holds  OHIO's alltime pass completion record????? just answer the question and you'll answer the question who should be the starting QB...

I would prefer Boo to play too, but pointing out that fact is useless.  That record is about as meaningful as being the richest  person on food stamps.  It still isn't that good.

While that question is relative, it isn't the only question that needs to be asked. For example, one needs to know, how Boo's arm strength compares to his strength when he set that record. In the end it comes down to a question of which QB gives them a better chance of winning. I don't know the answer to that.

The other important question is how many games did Ohio win while those records were being set. Based on games where Boo took most of the snaps, Ohio was 4-7.  Many times the qb gets too much credit or too much blame, depending on results, but the most important stat from that season is 4 wins.

Solich does seem to keep defending Bates, but at the same time, he also made the point that Boo's arm strength seems to be returning. If that's the case, I think it will be hard to keep him out, especially considering the receivers we have. I think eventually we'll get to the scenario a lot of people thought we'd have, where Boo starts, but we see some of Bates, primarily in a wildcat formation. But that's all dependent on Boo getting completely healthy and being able to throw like his old self. I've got a feeling Boo will see action against Marshall, possibly as the starter, which is good, because Marshall has been horrible at defending the pass.

Any time you can complete more than 60% of your passes you are doing pretty good....I gurss it will take one more game to show who can pass the ball ball...and actually move the team down the field.....also remember if the OL isn't doing their job, it's going to take a QB that can scramble around to by time to pass and not just tuck and run the ball when the line breaks down....very easy to defend that type of offense....

Boo threw 2 or 3 balls with sufficient zip on 'em about 25 yards downfield against columbus.  He did have at least one toss--a dump off to a running back or receiver in the flat--which wasn't well thrown.

I wonder if he's fine when can set his feet and get the body behind it but not quite so proficient when he throws while on the run, having to use pure arm strength 'cause can't get feets set.

My two biggest issues in sports right now:

1.  Why don't I see more Josh Cribbs/Seneca Wallace wildcat??
2.  Why haven't I seen any Phil Bates/Boo Jackson wildcat??

I've seen crazier things happen.

Bates, will be and should be the QB. Bates is a build for the future. We will have him for multiple years just like Theo Scott was before he got hurt. Having Bates take his lumps this year will only make us better next season. There is no coincidence that our last "down" year was when Theo was hurt and Boo played the entire season (2008). Stick with Bates and don't be shy about it. Boo is gone after this year, what does it help to leave him in? I'd rather have a mediocre season this year to build for the next two plus seasons with Bates.
Example: Look at Georgia last year. Mark Richt stuck with Senior Joe Cox out of loyalty and look what it got them? A mediocre season (by their standards) and now you have a rookie starting QB (Aaron Murray) who has to learn on the fly. You only got one year out of Cox, why not put in the young kid and let them get their lumps out of the way early? Bates, Bates, Bates all signs point to him.

Bates can't throw the ball.....how you goin to win not throwing......if you need a QB for the future might as start tentelton...for four years.......then you can throw away for 3 years to get 1 maybe good one......What's unbelievable is that some of you OHIO fans can't see the daylight that's out there....

You have A QB in Boo, that has set multiple records for your school and you look the other way then minute he has one bad game.....how many bad games is going to take before you notice that Bates can't throw the ball down field with accuracy??????but you would rather those multiple games doing that, than maybe lose a couple with a record setting QB trying to get his rythem back....
