Any good watering holes around the Pullman Square area? How far is the hike from Pullman Square to the Stadium? How is the area as far as safety for walking to and from the game. Any public transportation or cabs, if needed?

My favorite bars in Huntington, in order:
1. The Union (far and away the best)
2. St. Mark's
3. Hank's

It's a pretty good hike (Pullman Plaza is 6 blocks or so to Marshall's campus, and then it's another 4 blocks to the stadium). I've done it before. Not super fun, but doable. I'd say it's comparable to walking to The Skull from Riverpark, minus the hills.

I would say during the day, it's no less safe for opposing fans than Columbus was. And at night, they can't differentiate between shades of green. There's always the threat of the random Detroit crackdealer shoot-out, but Huntington hasn't had one of those in 4 months or so. Needless to say, avoid any "club," stick to "bars," and if you see a car with Michigan license plates, head the opposite direction.

Actually, now that I think about it, there's a bar in the Bobby Pruett Steak House in the Pullman Plaza Hotel that's not too bad. You get a pretty good mix of people in there too. Never been on a Marshall game day, but I would think that might be a winner.

I am going with a big group of Marshall season ticket holders.  I insisted on driving because I think it will be funny to use a Marshall Big Green donor lot pass on a van with "OHIO U" on the license plate.  I will post the lot info as soon as I get it for those that want to stop by pregame.  We should be there by 2:00 and I think it is only a block from the stadium.

I've been seeing a lot on the WVA news lately about portable meth labs, so be careful if any strange backpacks are left lying near your car...

this is not just a WVa problem, Southeastern Ohio is right there with them as a national leader in supply of this dangerous drug.

Here's a link that might help you out a bit...

marshall.rivals.com/showmsg.asp

At Pullman Square you have Uno's, Max & Erma's, Frankie D's Italian Steakhouse and Martini Bar and I think Benny's Cheesesteaks might serve beer as well. Across the street from Pullman Square and the Holiday Inn on 3rd Avenue is the Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe which is my recommendation. Ask to be seated in the bar area. Six flat screens behind the bar and then mini TVs at each booth. They'll have all of the games on that day. They also have Moss/Pennington memorabilia and a "We Are Marshall" props exhibit.  Steaks are good there as well as the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. For an app definitely try the nachos with chili. Coach Bobby Pruett's Steakhouse is in the lobby of the Pullman Plaza Hotel formerly the Huntington Radisson.

A few blocks south of the Pullman Square area you have MacReedos which is a great gameday spot. She has indoor and outdoor seating. Last season she had a free shuttle to and from the game from MacReedos but you might want to call ahead and make sure they're still doing that this year if you're interested.

Near the stadium you have Fat Patty's. Great burgers just be patient on gamedays... it's packed so get there early. Sometimes it takes a little while to get your beer at the bar just because there are so many people there. Giovanni's has a small bar area so get there early too as it gets packed as well. Rivals Sports Bar, The Club In Between and a couple other sports bars are along that block across from the stadium as well.

I second the recommendation of the Union, especially since it moved a block closer to downtown, and St. Marks. You'll find most of the bars a block over from Pullman Square on 4th Avenue. The Union's new location doubled it's old size. Still a great place to watch the games and cheap drinks. Hank's Piano Bar, St Marks, Sharkey's and the 21 Club at the Fredrick are nice places as well... all four are more of a 20-30 something type crowd. Whiskey River and Rum Runners are on 3rd Avenue across the street from the Holiday Inn. It's a younger crowd and more of a nightclub scene.

There is a TTA shuttle from Pullman Square that will drop you off on 3rd avenue about 4 blocks from the stadium. You might want to check the Huntington TTA website for the schedule. If you're staying at one of the downtown hotels you might be able to have the hotel shuttle drop you off at the stadium. You also have Yellow Cab 304 529-7131.

My brother called and told me the game was a sellout... anybody know for sure or not?

I figured I'd be able to go get a ticket at the gate, but if it's sold out, I just went on a drive to Huntington for nothing.

Unless they had some redonculous ticket giveaway, or some local corporations each bought several thousand, I find this very hard to believe.

It's not a sellout. Probably looking at 27-28,000. It will be no problem buying a ticket at the stadium.

Ohio stops selling away tickets something like two weeks before games. This is something I've found out as someone who actually makes it to more away games than home games. When I bouht tickets from Marshall Wednesday around 1:30, I was given seats in section 103, row 11. Apparently there are 54 rows, so even if some people got tickets higher up, I'm guessing no more than 1/3 of section 103 was sold, and I bet even less in 101 since its even closer to the end. I have to imagine there are tickets available all over. In fact, if you don't mind sitting among Marshall fans, you can probably get seats in the middle of the field not all that high up, which I'm sort of regretting not doing.

If you go to Herdzone.com to buy tickets online the best available for 2 tickets is showing right now in Section 111 Row 41 Seats 27-28. That's on the 50, east side prime.

Thanks MTTeke for all of the great information. Having such information takes a lot of the anxiety away for me in going to a stadium where we have not previously been. Good luck to both of these teams as they struggle to find their identity.
