Troop tweet said he hurt his hand making tackle on fake punt. X-rays to come.

fire the damn strength coach, the guy broke his hand!  Any one with the handle SBH or Tim Burke will tell you this is a lack of hand grips in a bucket of rice or finger curls with 315lbs on a straight bar.

how can you justify firing the strength coach because someone broke their hand?

Guys, it was a joke.

And to get back on topic, this is Brazill's senior year. Did he play four games already or can he be redshirted if this prevents him from playing? Don't know how a receiver plays with a broken hand, but the Post quoted Solich as saying he was questionable for the next game.

EDIT-- Should have kept reading. Said he has already missed two games right away in the next sentence. No more statistic counting late at night for me. heh

He will be eligible for another year, per approval of application process.

As I understand it, not all of his missed games this year have been due to injury.  Does this affect the way redshirt eligibility is calculated?

Even if you're right OCF, it would be near impossible to prove he wasn't hurt.

You're not saying we'd cheat if we're sure we won't get caught are you?

.

They've been saying all fall that he has injuries.  I'm sure that almost every player out there has injuries of some sort and they are documented in case this happens. I'm also  guessing that  there would be adequate info available to get one.

Doesn't matter, there are no such things as mandatory reporting of injuries in College Athletics.  There is also the little legal document called HIPA that keeps these matters behind closed doors.

So we fall for a fake punt and then lose one of our best players because he has to make a tackle to save a touchdown and breaks his hand? I don't think this is our year.

HIPAA is certainly relevant in terms of divulging information on injuries.  However, if the athlete has signed a waiver, the information can be released:

Here's the relevant paragraph about divulging information to the media:

"Finally, regarding the sharing of information with the media, this issue is clear-cut. Under HIPAA, personal health information can be provided to sports information staff or the media only with authorization from the athlete (Magee et al., 2003)."

JCW, do our players routinely sign such waivers?  I would assume so, since we do get reports on injuries in many cases.

HIPPA is only relevant insofar as a physician discussing a patient's (athlete's) injury with a third party, such as a coach. A HIPPA waiver would allow a team doctor to discuss an injury with the coaches or the media. Seeing as the coach is not a physician, not a medical provider, once the coach knows what a player's injury is (for instance, if the player told the coach what the docs had said) the coach can do with that information as he pleases, HIPPA no longer applies.

Troop tweets that Brazill's hand is broken in 3 places. He'll have surgery and is likely done for the season.

Tad bit of miss-information on my part yesterday.  ICA is not covered by HIPPA but rathef FERPA (Family Education Right to Privacy Act),  There are waivers, however some kids do not sign these waivers, and remember the other issue here is there is NO mandatory reporting rules for Universities, and why would Ohio University want to provide valuable information to their opponent that they do not have too?
