It has been confirmed by at least one member of the cheerleading squad that they were told beforehand about plans for the attack on Brutus.  Considering that cheerleaders are essentially ambassadors of the university,  their punishment was/is appropriate.

SBH, I have information that directly contradicts your statement from a very credible source -- as credible as yours.  Did a member of the cheerleading squad confirm this directly to you or via a third party?

Two of the cheerleaders made the trip to Marshall as fans and students and tailgated next to us.  According to them, they did not know what was about to go down.  I guess they could have been lying to us, but they seemed genuine.  Who really knows which folks knew and which ones didn't.  In the end, it really doesn't matter, though.  I have a few hilarious pictures and videos on my hard drive that I'll keep forever.  Nobody will ever remember the cheerleaders missed out on Marshall and EMU in 2010.

FYI-every student I have talked to, including myself, loved this. So those painting it in a negative light are turning a blind eye to the increased school spirit that resulted from this honorable feat. So if a cheerleader knew about this, good for her for letting it happen. I don't know (personally) a student yet that would have done anything but.

So basically you think it's okay for people to physically assault others for no reason?

It doesn't matter if you are in a costume or not, attacking and trying to cause harm to someone is illegal. Just think what could have happened if the kid in the Brutus outfit was hurt (especially because the attack was clearly premeditated).

1. This will never not be funny.
2. Cheerleaders shouldn't be punished, but...eh...they're cheerleaders.
3. This will always be funny.
4. Brutus wasn't hurt therefore, it's still funny.

5. Evidence of funny...

6. It's still funny.

Judas Priest! Since when do we get all high and mighty?!

7. This will NEVER NOT be funny...

I don't remember this big a deal being made when a cadet from Army nailed our Bobcat mascot while running onto the field.  I am not talking about a little tackle either.  I was at the game in West Point  and the cadet hit the Cat at full speed to lay her out.  She got up and began to run toward the stands and he nailed her again.  She was actually banged up pretty good and I am sure by now you have figured out that our mascot was a female student.  The MPs caught him as he was trying to leave the stadium and the Cadet was disciplined but I did not hear any uproar from our fans in Athens.  Just curious why?

I agree it was inappropriate but it is not the first time mascots got into a fight nor will it  be the last.  But for goodness sakes, it's done, over, finished now we should just let it go.

I wasn't aware this act to tackle and punch a mascot in its cushioned head was in the same category as an assault, excuse me for my ignorance.

ps-yes it will always be funny as posted above haha

Plain and simple, it's because of WHO was tackled. Almost everyone calling it terrible / assault / etc, are possibly Bobcat fans, but also worshipers of the golden calf in Columbus. And tOSU isn't used to being a laughingstock about anything having to do with football. Except this, which they really couldn't stop/prevent, and the whole country has joined in the fun, and I think it burns them up.

Nobody ever made it a big deal any other time, because it wasn't a big deal. If Freida Falcon got tackled by the Bobcat it's not news, because we don't have BGSU fans on this board.

Isn't it great? This incident has been a great litmus test for the traitors.

OK, TB et al, since this has turned into the litmus test for Traitors vs. Patriots, I'll have to confess that I thought it was funny!  I also love the idea of the T-shirt to make fun of Brutus with the caption about Rufus "dotting his 'eye.'"  I hope that this passes legal muster and can be produced.  I'll buy one and wear it -- especially on my trips to Cowtown to visit my in-laws.

I shall now refer to this "litmus test for Traitors" as the Red Scare of 2010.  Tim Burke will be playing the role of Joseph McCarthy for this one.

And by the way, Brutus getting punched in his big foam head is funny.  Really funny.

As a Columbus native I have always been a Buckeye fan, now a secondary fan due to my Bobcat allegiance and I found this to be awesome!  If the mascot had actually been hurt that would be one thing, but that head has a lot of padding. :)

The punch to the head was only one part of this event and the one everyone thinks was funny, but there was also a punch to the groin area and a blindsided attempt at a tackle.

The only reason this is a big deal is because its ohio state, and nothing can ever go bad for them so when it does they get mad. Everyone else besides osu fans and apparently some OU fans, think that this is hilarious. Rufus was not the first mascot to tackle and punch another mascot. It wasn't a big deal before this incident and it is not a big deal now. Only to Ohio state fans because they are insecure.

I assume you read the Athens News?  No?  Monday's edition?

Also, I do know the mother of a cheerleader and she told me they knew beforehand.

Honestly I was just busting your chops.  Work has been busy so I have not read the Monday A-News.  After a while on this board you get a feeling for the "word" some people bring to the table.  I had NO problem with the word you spoke, and I knew some of you fellow business people understand how someone associated with you represents you.

SBH, if the cheeleader whose mother you know knew ahead of time, he or she may have been the only one.  Others are claiming they knew nothing about Rufus' secret plan.
