So many positives on yesterday's game.

- Tailgreat park is getting bigger. More tailgate room, and just in time for homecoming crowd. And we've had some great weather thus far. I'll try to remember that if it's freezing/raining for our November games.

- Absolutely huge stand by the defense after BG got the ball on the 3. 4 downs, 2 yards given up. Definitely set the tone when momentum was yet to be gained by either team.

- Punting by Hershey. Huge booming kicks. Didn't need him much, but wow...

- Special teams in general coming around. Not much in the way of returns for BG.

- McCrae with another corner catch for his NFL resume.

- Jordan Thompson's payoff. - This kid is a monster on the field and inexplicably rarely gets the ball thrown his way. Well, for his first TD catch of his career, it again wasn't thrown to him. But he caught it anyway and went in for at TD. The second, actually was. I do not know him, but the Post story I read say he is nothing short of a great person. And for those that travel to away games, his family/friends account for a very large contingent of Bobcat fans at every away game. Nice folks too.

- Cool opening video for the game, even if it is played on what seems like a 19 inch tv on victory hill. To youtube I go to search for it...

- Boo Jackson. Good passing day, no poor decisions. No need to force anything on a day like that. And, after the game, he probably won the fandom of probably a dozen or more kids. He stayed on the field for the entire postgame band performance, getting pictures, signing autographs, and passing footballs to younger Bobcat fans in the endzone. Very classy.

- Phil Bates - looked like he did in the Spring game for the first time all season. I think he's starting to see he's the most valuable runner on the team, even if he holds a QB title.

- I think the list could go on and on. Lots of rest for the injured, lots of experience for the younger/inexperienced linemen. Jay Edwards is doing well in Keller's absense, and WR's are all chomping at the bit in Lavon's absence.

- Good to see Taylor Price return to watch the team. I hope he's nearing PT now that Moss is gone.

- I know I left out some. BGSUcks this year, but we did well against the teams we're supposed to do well against. That's what we always want and seldom get. Saturday we got it. Great job Bobcats.

The not so good:

- Nelsonville. From 10:11am to 10:54am, I waited in traffic to get through that roadblock of human progress. That bypass cannot come soon enough. It looked like the construction was bypass related, so I'll deal. But an irritation nonetheless. If this was Homecoming traffic instead of parents weekend, the cars would be backed up to Logan.

- clock management. Didn't burn us this time, but I never stop wondering why every team we play can get a snap off quickly after the clock starts. We simply cannot. This isn't new either, and we're passing up easy gains because we have to huddle up all the time. (even when we're on our own side of the field, with about 2 minutes to gain 60 yards). BG always gets up to the line so we have a harder time switching personnel. We are mostly incompetent in this facet.

- Riley Dunlop with an uncharacteristic drop and fumble. Wonder if he's still ailing from the Marshall injury, or if it may have been just a fluke. I hope he's ok.

- The golf course booked for the second weekend in a row. I think I'm starting to remember why I let my parents take my clubs back home my freshman year shortly after I brought them up.

Thought it was good to see Donte Foster's first collegiate catch as a redshirt freshman -- a huge 47 yard pickup. He nearly had another big catch later on in the game, but was well covered and it fell incomplete.

Just a follow-up to Ben's Nelsonville comments - if you're coming down 33 this coming weekend, remember that Saturday is the big day for the Smoked Meat Festival in Nelsonville so you might want to allow a little extra time.

The boys look like they are finally getting it together. If we keep it up I really feel like the conference is ours this season. Anyway the Zips are next and we just need to take one game at a time!!!

Billy, he said a golf course not a shooting gallery. Anyway, OU has a fundraising scramble Saturday morning so that's why the course was closed.

as for smoked kangaroo meet I think that should be accomplished without too much worry. I was at the northern Illinois- Akron game the zips are pretty close to the worst d3 team I have ever watched in person.

I'll throw in my 2 cents:

- Most beautiful drive of the year, taking 35 to Jackson and 32 on in. Hopefully, the colors will stay for one more week.
- Well done on making more space at TailGreat. Will really come in handy for Homecoming.
- Now, we just need to incorporate Punchcard (aka Bicentennial Park) Park into Game day. Move the reception tents and maybe even the inflatables over there. The "punchcard impressions" would make great natural seating areas. And the 110 could do their pre-game performance on the steps of Walter Hall.
- Given what BG had done to Marshall and Buffalo in terms of turning them over and getting scores, was very concerned after the fumble on the first play. Awesome stand by the D.
- BG receivers seemed to have a lot of drops.
- I thought a lot of BG coach Clawson before the game. Not sure how you can field a defense that bad in Year 2 of your tenure. BG never covered the QB on the run and the Bobcats had at least 5 yards any time the QB wanted to keep it.
- Monster punts by Hershey. But my Special Teams Player of the Week is Brian Albrecht. He laid some folks out on special teams coverage.
- Speaking of special teams coverage, it's getting much better. It's also been helped by better KO's from Clinton and punts from Hershey.
- Boykin needs more PT. I think he can be the 3rd-and-short guy we've been needing. Will be interesting to see what happens to PT at the RB spot with Harden back.
- Yardage and point totals don't tell the story of how well the defense played. I'd say half the yards and point came in the 4th quarter after the game was well-decided.
- Hopefully, the Cats continue to roll. Even after the Toledo loss, they controlled their own destiny. But the Temple loss means Ohio can afford one MAC stumble as long as they beat the Owls in Philly.

I'll back this up. Very, very nice guy. And he's been very active in the O Zone as long as he's been here. One of the first people to show up at games, loud, even travels on the bus trips. Great guy to have in a Bobcat uniform.

The route I took if I ever had to go through Nelsonville on Paul Bunyan weekend was just as the 4 lane turns down to 2 after Logan, hang a left by the diner. Follow that until it hits Route 56. Turn left (99% sure) on 56 and that will bring you in on West side of Town. Pretty curvy so not for the easily motion sick, but I found it quicker than sitting.

And Mcbin...you should look into getting an out of town membership at the Athens Country Club.

As the four lane runs out north of nelsonville, turn right at Dee's Diner on laurel run road. Take that road until it T's into rte 56, turn left on 56 and miss nelsonville and knock ten minutes off your trip!

Thank god only 2 more seasons without the Nelsonville Bypass. Disagree that it will be bad for Nelsonville with so much tourism already going on there. If anything it will change the regional image for those passing through and make it more likely that someone curious about the Opera House to stop by off the highway. There are buisnesses waiting 5-10 years for that bypass to be complete before they come to Nelsonville.

In all seriousness, I played the Elm a few weeks ago and it was in better shape than I can ever remember it, and rivaled the OU course (which isn't saying much) in it's condition. The fairways were a little burnt, but that just helps the roll if you can get it over the hills! Plus, you can't beat the view from up there...

Rivaled the OU course - come on now block. Before this hot summer took a toll on many golf courses, the OU course was in the best shape of any course in the county (except the greens at the country club). If you play 9 from the whites and 9 from the greens, you end up playing two totally different courses (about a 4 stroke difference).

That right at Dee's is a good shortcut IF there is traffic and with the meat festival on the public square, there will be traffic.

Man I feel sorry for you guys with the golf choices in Athens. I know OU has improved over the years, but having no more than 9 holes to play is awful, and I am counting Athens CC. Ben, I would play Brass Ring in Logan on the way down. I have played it a couple times and it is OK.

Couldn't agree more. The golf choices in the area are obviously very limited. I do like the OU course and played it often in college. The Elm was an absolute joke the last time I was there. They literally had a coffee can sitting on the first tee to put your money in on my last trip. That was about 6 years ago and I will never go back.

Never had the opportunity to play Athens CC, but as just another 9 holer it didn't really spark my interest. I've played Brass Ring and Oxbow in Belpre, nothing special at either.

I regularly drove an hour and half towards Columbus to play throughout college.

The Athens area can definitely support a nice 18 hole course....Always hoped University Estates would get that job done, I'm out of the loop now but I'm sure not much has changed there. Oh well I'm in NE Ohio now with some of the best public courses in the country just right down the road.

Flying to Myrtle Beach tonight for a 4 day, 12 guy golf trip. Accidentally scheduled it over Homecoming. Incredible screw up on my part. Someone get to the CI and drink one for me! I'll return for Homecoming 2011.

I used to student manage the Ohio GC so it will always own a special place in my heart...Even now that it's been re-designed (at least it's still located on most of the same earth).

I honestly couldn't be more impressed with it as it stands today. Obviously the state of Ohio offers some tough competition but for an on campus track, we should all feel fortunate to have it.

We too would occasionally make the drive to Oxbow for a change of pace.

While I'll readily admit living in Central Ohio it's easy to get spoiled regarding quality places to play, IMHO it's more about the company and just being on the course. I spent a few years as an Assistant Pro in NC immediatley following graduation and as a result, took the game too seriously to truly enjoy it for a long time. For me now, there's nothing better than chasing it around with the guys on a course that's bordered by the best campus on earth.

I encourage you to play the ACC. It may be 9 holes, but you have to have a good game to score. Small elevated greens, getting faster. Fairways are great, narrow and alot of not level lies.. It is a good Donald Ross course that will test your game. ACC also has great. food.

If you could combine the country club with OU from the back tees, you've have a pretty darn good course. If you're going to score at the country club, you better be able to move the ball from left to right at least off of the tee and at OU, you better be able to hit long irons.

Like someone said, too bad the course at University Estates wasn't built.

From what I understand, Al, that's not quite a dead issue yet. Once all the various lawsuits are settled, I think the UE Golf Course may get back on the agenda. As it is now, the whole thing is a seamy mess, with the city fathers and mothers looking like a bunch of used auto sales people. And, that's being kind. I believe UE is going to win in court. They've already won some preliminary rounds. Keep in mind that the pro-Democratic Athens News has had several articles about the underlying scandal in all these shenanigans. I don't want to name names here, but I know you know whose fingerprints are all over this story.
