Akron head coach does a team meeting in the middle of the field.

Russ describes a lot of visor shaking and yelling.

Guess he's not too happy being down 17-0 in the first quarter.

LOL four straight punts by Akron and 18 yards of Offense compared to 154 yards by the Bobcats at the end of the 1st Quarter.

Kind of a disappointing 2nd Quarter, good that we only let them have a Field Goal, but the offense not getting that 4th and 2 and the blocked FG were unfortunate.

EMU, BG, 'kron--possibly the worst trio of opponents anyone has ever played in a row in college football.

Yeah, we were great in the first quarter and piddled around in the second.  Even a big win today, though, leaves us unable to judge how good we are.

Next week at miami sucks will be a test.  We will need to play quite well to win.

Bobcats dominated the first half.  Bobcats getting it done today so far.  Goos sign when you come out smoking against an inferior team.

Just missing out on getting 500 yards of offense, only had one turnover which isn't bad.  Hope we getting this momentum going into Oxford.

Bowling Green lost on a failed two-point conversion at Temple today. I realize BG only has one win, but maybe they're not as bad as their record looks.

Exactly. Think back, now. In the MAC East Championship years, in how many games did Ohio put the other team essentially out of the ballgame in the first half? Most of those wins were struggles to the end. This year is the first year I remember Ohio taking multiple commanding leads to the half, but I could be wrong.

Yes, BG and 'kron were never in danger of beating us.  Same with EMU shortly into the 2nd half.

What worries me is that our defense has not been scintillating at many points this season.  I know that GMoore and NKeller being out hurt.  But we get no qb pressure and we seem to not defend 3rd and long well.  And we seem to lack a defensive leader, someone who WILL NOT let the oppo have life.

Other:  The fade to T-Mac in the endzone won't work much  more this year, well not against decent teams if we go to it every time.  Twice today (on Franshaw's 2 td runs) we had about a foot to go for a td.  We ran single back sets out of the pistol.  I do not at all like being that close and sending the ball 5 yards back to the qb.  Go under center and with a two back set.  Boykin moves the pile.  I'd like to see more of  him in prime time.

Next week's very important game will be 60 minutes (at least).  How many minutes will we play with intensity?

Our season to date:  muddle to victory over a not very good Wofford, loss at home to a not very good FATMAN, play-scared loss at columbus, loss to a poor stupd cow (BG beat these guys for cryin' out loud) which capped our streak of poor qb play and got us off to a 1-3 start in a season in which a hot start was key to igniting our fans, then 3 wins over quite lousy teams.  Disappointing.  Even if we shine from here on out, the glass won't be completely full.

WRONG!

If we win out, we'll be 9-3 in regular season and 11-3 overall.  I say that is a glass full of something good!

Way off point. Yes, this team should be 6-1 right now. It's unfortunate that they aren't but given the awful start to the season I can't understand the pessimism now after the past three weeks. If this team we're to hit the rewind button and start over they would by 6-1 and that's all that matters right now. If they win out (or even lose one) no one will remember the awful start. With Harden back and looking good and Phil beginning to dominate on the ground there is no stopping these dudes. Just enjoy the ride from here on out. Go Cats!

Doc,

What made it so unusual was that Ianello called a timeout to do it. Akron had just punted and there was not going be a media timeout. So he called the TO and had the whole team take a knee at mid-field. Then, he lit into them. Fortunately for the players, it was only a 30-second timeout so there was only so much yelling he could do. I've never seen a coach call a TO so that he could call a team meeting like that. They promptly gave up a score that put Ohio up 24-0.

As I browse this forum, the remarkable thing to me is the change in the fan perspective from when I first started coming here. I remember after a few losses in 2006 the optimism here was sapped, and posters wrote off the rest of the season, and they were ready to start talking basketball. There was a manic-depressive-like swing from total optimism to total pessimism, and then back to optimism when the team started winning, all in a matter of weeks. Now there is a pervasive air of optimism, and a steady support of the team.  OK, so they lost a game or 3, not one person here wrote off the season, and most people here still look forward to each game with the attitude that it is winnable.

My wife would totally agree with this statement.  Her big regret was that because of a flight delay we missed the Madri Gras parade!
