728642 was the winning ticket;

$1719 the winning amount

I came in second along with a host of others.

Weird things going on with the STP.  Last week they waited until half the crowd was gone.  This week, they did not read the number, just posted it on the scoreboard.  I really suspect they're hoping the winner won't come forward.

I agree, there is something weird going on with it.

People have been on record on this board saying Schaus and co. do not care for Split the Pot.

If that's the case - fine - but just end it altogether instead of doing this inconsistent, schlock job on it.

I assume the teams selling the tickets are actually making some needed money, so if you don't want to cut the revenue stream then at least do a decent job announcing the numbers and paying it out.

I heard the numbers announced while they were shown on the video board.

They announced the numbers, this is just SBH trying to take pot shots since he can't afford another round of billboards.

I honestly did not hear the number read.  If it was, fine.  Announcing the winner has just seemed to be a much lower priority in recent weeks.  Maybe it's tough to fit it in with all those Community Bank first downs.

Forget split the pot. I'm still waiting, after 30-plus years of attending games in Peden, for other scores from around the country, either announced or on the scoreboard. What's the rationale for not providing scores from other games of interest?

I'm pretty sure they do this every game. I know they did it on Saturday because the few of us who stuck around in the OZone laughed at the "Wendy's Out-of-Town Scoreboard presented by Donatos"

At the minimum, it should be used as a way to help fans better attach to Ohio and the MAC.

- When a player makes a big play, his picture, name, where he's from and who he was coached by in HS (OSU had that and thought it was a nice touch) should be displayed on the big screen.
- From the beginning of the season, MAC standings and results should be shown. There are probably a fair number of students that don't know what teams are in the MAC. This is a way to educate them. On Parents Weekend and Homecoming, it would be nice for casual fans and alumni to know that Ohio is doing fairly well in the MAC as well as what other teams (see Miami) Ohio is competing with for the MAC East.
- Stats. It would be nice to at the minimum have team stats at the end of quarters.

I understand that the answer to why this doesn't happen is lack of qualified labor or money or both. That's probably why Evan Shaw has to run the scoreboard operation during home games instead of doing camera work on the field. Given what's being spent already on gameday labor, I can't believe this would add too much to the cost. If it's because the Sports Ad grads are like a box of chocolates, then hire someone local. Much in the same way we have a PA announcer that can give continuity to gameday operations, why can't the same be done for the scoreboard? Find a teacher or even local A/V pro that can hit buttons the same way for the next 30 years or that can orchestrate students who can.

All excellent points by Ted.  I don't understand why this could not be done by one person that has a little A/V or computer knowledge.

One reason that the in-game status might not be shown is that there is only one board, a priority for replays and 40 seconds between plays.  Selecting a player and a bio and flashing it on the board (correctly) would be a pretty impressive accomplishment.

We have a sports administration program and a telecommunications program.

The only impediments to improving gameday aesthetics are will power and politics.

Give me an iphone, wifi and a mike, and I'll give you enough scores from around the country to forget about human hamsters, puntpasskickers, and adult tricycles.

Then again, there are tiny little flags in the north end zone that a good pair of binoculars can be used to decipher conference standings. It's tough to delineate between Akron and Kent... but then again, it rarely matters.

Here I'm speaking only for myself, not for the GWC, but if I had my way they would annouce STP with about 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.  If you buy a ticket and you want a chance to win you stay for the whole game.  That's a cranky, old-schoool, never-say-die, smash-mouth approach.  But, that's me!

Up until this season, I believe scores from around the MAC and nation were posted on the video board.

If you can't get NCAA scores on your phone while sitting in Peden, I'm surprised you have the ability to post on this message board.  Just saying....

Although I agree with whoever made the point that announcing scores helps promote the MAC.

Scores on my phone? In Peden? The cord isn't long enough.

And yet, I'm still able to figure out how to post on this message board!

Nice to know the background of the winner.  Glad he had the winning ticket.

LISTEN TO YOURSELVES...

1. Split the pot was shown and announced... grow up this is a dumb argument and a pathetic one at that. Some of you feel the need to continue to find any reason to take a low blow.

2. CITIZEN'S BANK FIRST DOWN..   Do you know how much money that generates for the athletic dept? Thank you to ISP we get free money to support our student athletes for announcing a 'local" bank's name before a first down. Instead of being annoyed the next time you here it, try thinking "ooooo that's sponsorship sales in college athletics for ya right there."

3. Wendy's Out-of-Town Scoreboard presented by Donatos....  For those of you who cannot connect the dots, the Wendy's and Donatos in Athens are owned by the same individual, hence why it is named that. More sponsorship sales in college athletics for ya.. I'll give you and the OZone credit though, it does make you laugh.

4. It's obvious the athletic dept. doesn't have enough full-time staff to fill all your requests regarding player profiles/stats/ standings/etc., let alone enough interns who are capable of it. It's done for basketball btw. I'm thinking there is just too many stats to keep track of in football. Ohio State will always have the best of the best, it's Ohio State. I only ever here Frank, John, and the rest of the coaching staff giving praise to the multimedia dept. at that anyways.

It's amazing some of you repeatedly complain about some of the dumbest stuff. Were a low budget school in the MAC. Stop complaining. I'd rather have wins than snazzy bs crap. See you at the game on Sat.

Are people really complaining in this thread (well Love was about the first downs, but it's Love, so obviously he's complaining, right?) or are they spitballing ideas on how to make the game experience better?

There's a fine line, sure, but i think those who were talking about showing scores, standings, player profiles, etc. had some decent points, and didn't sound like they were doing a hatchet job on the Athletic Department about not doing it, it was just an idea they had that sounded like it'd be a nice touch.

Point taken on the Citizen Bank first downs though. Sponsors bring money. Money is important. It's a no brainer.
