Louisiana game very important, despite popular sentiment.

Home game against another D1 mid-major.

Home game against rival conference.

Home game.

Keep momentum for stretch run.

Execution.

Home game.

Even non-conf. record at 2-2.

We can't advance as a program unless games this like end up as big-time W's. We can't whine and complain about scheduling if we lose a game like this one, and games like the last two against stupid cow.

Home games have to be wins.

Get fans jacked for the next home game, our finale, a weeknight game against Buffalo, just five days later.

Plus we become bowl eligible with a win.

I know this is an important game, but I'm nervous about the student turnout. Day of the big party, tons of guests in town and non-conference opponent from outside the region (little to no interest for the guests).

Anybody know what promotions (if any) there will be for student guest? Free tickets for those in costume or free ticket with any college ID will make this a lot more appealing for students and their guests. My girlfriend and I are having a few people stay with us and I can't picture them spending $20 each on a ticket.

If there are no discounts/free tickets for guests I see student turnout being really low. Halloween weekend is already pricey for guests, especially those staying in the dorms: $25 guest fee, $10 parking at the fairgrounds, plus money for costumes, food and booze. $20 on top of all of that will probably keep a lot of students away from Peden.

Looks like guests are free for this game. Hope they're doing more than that though.

That would be huge. My roommate and I do not miss football games, but we've got 6+ kids coming down for Halloween. They'd probably be down to watch some football during the day, but they aren't going to want to pay to watch us play (can't blame them)... I can see a lot of people missing the game because of similar scenarios.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Glad to see guests will get in free, but I still think a lot of students who normally go to games will skip out because their guests don't want to go.

Those who go are very supportive and I appreciate it. The noise from the O Zone side of the field has been very good this season. Lots of coordinated chants, too. And, it seems to me like student turnout has been consistently better this year than last -- more early season games and kickoff times may have contributed to it. Winning always helps.

I usually have a tough time understanding why kids don't show up, but I won't give any grief to students for skipping this game. Halloween is their Super Bowl. I remember having a home football game during Halloween weekend one year when I was in school. I went, but did not stay for very long. I am more worried about the players staying out of trouble after the game than I am about student attendance for the game.

Overall attendance has been noticeably better this year than the past few seasons, and there is a pretty strong positive trend.

That's based on our box score attendance, which we all realize may be suspect, but I think based on feel that, while it may be reported a bit high, the numbers are reliable (ie: while the number released may not match butts in seats, it does seem to correlate pretty well).

wow , open at 14 point favorites. I thought this couldn't be right but I didn't realize until a couple of minutes ago western kentucky had put such a bad beating on the cajuns.

the attendance and support will only continually get better with more seasons like the teams have recently had. its tough being so close to a city that constantly has a team competiting for the big game - tough but true... i would expect basketball attendance will be awesome this year.

smart move to offer free tickets to guests.. makes sense to offer free tickets since so many guests come for the weekend rather than to not have anyone come since the guests dont want to pay.

you're definitely right.. we have no right to complain about scheduling unless we win this game. should be a fun weekend in athens

Yes I mean we have to remember that we are 8 games in and only sitting at 5 wins. There is so much on the line if Ohio wins out and wins its bowl game. That will give Ohio a MAC Championship and a school record 11 wins. Amazing after that lousy start this season could turn out to be one of the schools finest. At 11-3 I could see a push to have Ohio play a top 25 Nevada club in the Humanitarian Bowl. Every win counts when trying to get the best bowl matchups. The Pizza bowl has the MAC #1 selection but I see Ohio trying to opt out of that if possible.

Attendance has gone up since Schaus was hired. In 2008 we averaged 15,600 (CMU & VMI @ home) on a 5 game home schedule, 2009 it was 18,000 (UConn & Miami) on a 6 game schedule, and thus far 21,000 (Wofford & Akron @ home) through 4 games on a very weak home schedule. Next year attendance could even be better with Miami and Marshall in Peden. The move to 6 home games was great as Ohio can expect participating in the MAC TV deal to have 1 or 2 midweek home games every year that many season ticket holders will miss. 116th ranked scoring defense in the country. 39 ppg they averaging giving up a game. They had 50 large given up on them 3 times already. Their best defense game was giving up only 24 points. We should be able to load the cannon a few times against the Cajuns. Locals will think we have been invaded with all the noise and smoke set off.

If we push to get out of the Pizza Bowl in favor of the Humanitarian (or even GoDaddy) Bowl, then we deserve all of the budget backlash that will come our way. Either of those games will be even bigger money losers for us than a trip to Detroit.

Lafayette lost to WKU 54-21
At home...
WKU held a 26 game losing streak (although they were getting close to wins recently).
AND...
WKU did not attempt one punt all game.
Officially: the punter did not enter the field for WKU.

anyone else think that this might be a perfect storm for mayhem?

I remember having a dorm/apartment/house full of people on Halloween and would've jumped at the chance to get them all outside for a bit and catch a little flavor of OU at the same time. I can see students planning out their saturday with Kegs and Eggs all morning, uptown debauchery all night, and in between taking your buddies over to Peden to see the team and/or the band, smuggling in some bota bottles full of liquid goodness, finding a bunch of other students doing the same thing, some of whom are already in costume, and most of them are already half cocked.

to me it sounds like the makings of Nickel Beer Night at Cleveland Stadium.

They pretty much have to let guests in free if they want any student turnout whatsoever. Student attendance is already going to be lower than a normal Saturday 2 p.m. game when O$U plays a bad team at 8. If they tried to charge guests $20 (or any price really) nobody would go. It's going to be hard enough to convince people from other schools to watch a MAC-Sun Belt game for free after they were out partying Friday night and preparing to do the same that night.

Sure some of the students and guests that actually make it to Peden will have imbibed beforehand, but the same thing goes on during Homecoming and I don't think there were any major incidents then.

I'm sensing overconfidence here...remember, Louisiana has played a tough schedule, and lost by only 7 AT Troy, which is a pretty good football team.

Ohio needs to take this game seriously and come to play.

Awesome that guests get in free, glad the athletic department thought that issue out. If we ever get the support for our athletic teams that we all dream of, a football game on Halloween in Athens would surely be the greatest atmosphere possible!
