I'm working from the home office today and have now received at least a dozen "election calls."  The last one was actually a live person asking me to vote for a particular candidate.   I told him I'm registered on the do not call list and wanted to know how I could quit getting these calls.  He said "get a chain saw and cut down your telephone pole."

I'll be glad when Wednesday morning comes.

Yes, interesting little caveat in the do not call list is that political solicitations are exempt from do not call lists, nor do they have to remove your name from their list if you so request it done.

I can't imagine any political group espousing the "non-exercise of power" as a demonstration of "power".

It made me seriously wonder if this weren't in the "dirty tricks" toolkit.

Added to the Ballot in Ohio last minute is a petition to complain to Jim Schaus about the future Non-Conference Schedule and the football teams not beating teams badly enough.

Sorry couldn't resist. I figure every post on this board one way or another ends up being about either of those two topics. Just trying to save everybody time.

Congress always takes care of their own.  I'd at least like to see the law changed so that they have to stop calling if you tell them to not call again.  During the '08 primaries we were getting about a call a day from the same candidate (won't tell you who; her husband used to be president).

I have a friend who loves these calls. He abuses them for as long as they stay on the line. Not polite I know, but hilarious to hear the crap he dishes out to them.

I prefer to think of election season as an opportunity. I never take calls on the landline unless I know who it is - but now they all know that and use my cell.  Hence, solicitors and pollsters assure me that my landline is still working and the Privacy Manager is functioning. It'll be at least six more months of guessing now.

The meanest thing you can do to a telemarketer is to stay on the line and waste their time. It actually helps them if you hang up quickly. I always thought the ideal solution for dealing with telemarketers would be to invent a box that would keep asking questions. Whenever there was silence on the other end, it could ask questions like "Tell me more about your product" or "Why should I buy today?", or perhaps make statements like "I'm not really sure what I should do". It could just keep those up until the telemarketer figured out he was talking to a machine.
