Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if the cats are able to win against Kent and then in the MAC championship...we would then face the Big 10 (#8) which would currently have us facing either Illinois, Northwestern, or Michigan. Thats much better than some bowl against a team like Mid-Tennessee or Troy. I know many of you would like to face one of them to get OUr first bowl game win, but a win over a team like Michigan would do wonders for this program, just like the win over Georgetown has done for the basketball team. Again I dont want to get ahead of ourselves, its just fun to speculate bowl possibilities and is much more exciting to do when we have the possibility to face  a bigger name school.

Probably won't be Big Televentwelve because they're likely to get two teams in BCS bowls (probably Wisc Rose; OSU Sugar or Fiesta).  I've seen Tennessee bandied about doing Pizza, but one other big-name possibility is Notre Dame.  They're about to be bowl eligible (leading Army 27-3 in the 4th), and unless they fill a Big Least spot somewhere, they could wind up in Detroit or DC.  Unlike last year, they're not too proud to go to ANY bowl this year.

Didn't ND turn down a Detroit Bowl game a couple of years ago?

It will either be Michigan and Northwestern in 8th in the Big Ten and, thus, the eligible teams for the Little Ceasers Bowl (Illinois will finish 4-4 and in 6th).

Michigan (3-4) will likely fall to OSU, and end up 3-5
Northwestern (3-4) will likely fall to Wisconsin and end up 3-5.

So, if Michigan and Norwestern both finish tied at 3-5 who gets the tie breaker and 7th in the Big Ten, and who heads to Detroit to face... hopefully the 'Cats?

Bowl selections are not strictly based on conference rankings.  Rather, the rank indicates the order in which the bowls get to pick.  So in other words, the bowl with the rights to the 5th Big Ten team simply has the fifth pick out of any of the conference's remaining bowl eligible teams, and is not locked into taking the 5th place Big 10 team.  Similarly, the Pizza Bowl gets the first pick of MAC teams (regardless of who wins the championship game).  Thus, there is just about zero chance Michigan will be in the Pizza Bowl, as one of the other Big 10 bowls will surely claim them before they fall to Detroit.  Even if we beat NIU for the championship, there is nothing preventing the Pizza Bowl from picking the Huskies anyway.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.  We aren't going to Detroit unless there is a seizmic shift in the LCPB organizers minds, like say a blowout victory by the Cats and a huge turnout by Cats fans on the 3rd.

Indeed, Little Caesar's gets the first pick and something big would have to change for them not to pick NIU. Also, something major would have to change for a Big 10 team to be available to play in the bowl. As long as Ohio State and Wisconsin are both undefeated, they'll get picked for BCS games. Wisconsin will get the automatic berth and Ohio State fans travel far too well not to be picked as one of the four at-larges.

I think the most likely scenario for the Bobcats it to be sent back to Mobile for a fun matchup against Florida International.

The Humanitarian Bowl is a possibility still, if Mobile wants to bring in a new team since we lost there relatively recently. That would pit us against a WAC team. Hawaii almost certainly will go to the Hawaii Bowl and Boise State to a BCS game, so that would probably mean Fresno State or Nevada, which might be our best-case scenario as far as playing a quality opponent.

They turned down any bowl bids last year largely because at 6-6 they were only going to get bids they obviously considered to be beneath them; the most likely bid would've been the DC bowl that UCLA ultimately went to and beat Temple.  This year, though, Kelly has been pushing them to accept a bid, no matter where it is, just to get the extra practice time.

According to the learned football scholars on HawkTalk, Toledo is going to the LCPB because of proximity to Detroit.  If this is true, which it probably isn't given the source, it would have a very interesting domino effect on the other MAC Bowls and the other non-MAC Bowls that will be inviting MAC teams to fill vacant slots.

Well said in each paragraph. The odds are completely in favor of returning to another Mobile game. If the MAC was smart it would start a new bowl for its champ against the new power league WAC on its home turf in Cleveland or Canton. It would be winnable every year for the MAC champ. I'm realizing more and more the importance of having bowls in a conferences home territory to cut travel costs and help the winning percentage. The MAC's bowl system is so confusing for predicting who will go where every year.

This makes sense and would not surprise me...But if NIU rolls EMU and in the championship game and is ranked, I still think the Pizza Bowl couldn't pass on NIU.

Bottom line is this if NIU is ranked and the MAC champ, the go to LCPB, if not then it will be Toledo. as for GMAC, the have to decide between Ohio, Fiami and NIU; on the grounds that Temple in their minds won't travel well. Thus leaving Ohio as one of 3 teams looking for at large bids either way. Which is very good indeed.

I think a perfect place for a new MAC bowl game would be at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis...Grade A facility and within great driving distance for the majority of MAC schools. Maybe they could even convince the big ten or Big East to get involved. (Hopefully a 4th or 5th place team). The Winner of the MAC should have more to play for than what they are rewarded currently (8th place big 10 team) and that doesnt even always happen. (See Central Michigan last season)

Ideally I would love to see the MAC play the MWC in a bowl, the winner of the MAC facing the #3 from MWC?

If the Big 10 representative ends up being either Illinois or Northwestern, there's absolutely no way the LCB passes up on an in-state match-up with NIU.

The Illnois game would be a re-match.  In general, bowls shy away from that kind of contest.

I have to agree here. Bowls are going to be shuffling around in a few years with all of the membership changes. The Big East expands and its going to need more bowl games. Detroit is a perfect game for the MAC #3 or #4, a school that didn't play earlier in the year for the MAC Championship. I'd drop Mobile and its SBC opponent for a new game in Indianpolis vs. Big East #5. The game in Boise looks pretty good if its going to be an MWC-MAC matchup in the future.

FWIW, CBS nows shows Georgia playing Northern Illinois in the Pizza Bowl. If we could slip in there and play the Bulldogs, that would be awesome.

Count on Troy being the Sunbelt rep in the GoDaddy.com Bowl (formerly the GMAC Bowl). They are only two hours from Mobile and thus would bring more fans to the game than the Florida team. I don't know how many people attend the home football games of the Florida teams in the Sunbelt, but I do know that their basketball games have attendance figures in the mid-hundreds. Seriously. Thus I doubt there would be hardly anyone traveling from south Florida to a bowl game for their team. So the GoDaddy folks will definitely invite Troy.

Yes, the Sunbelt is waaaay down this year. No one is above .500 right now, but the teams who are right at .500, or a game below .500, appear to have one or two weaker opponents left on their schedule so the league should end up with two or three teams barely bowl eligible.
