Excuse the question-I couldn't figure out quickly how best to phrase the question, but hopefully you get what I mean. I think we've done this before.  I'm always interested in what motivates fans or demotivates fans from going.

I'd make the trip to Detroit
I'd make the trip to Mobile
I'd make the trip to Boise and (because I'm a sucker for irony) probably wearing flip flops, swimming trunks, green and white hawaiian shirt if I could find one.

The only thing stopping me from going to a bowl I don't need a passport for is work.  If I can't get the day off, I gotta sit the sidelines as a fan.

It's a combination of when and where for me. I probably can't get more than a couple days off from work, so a far-away bowl game in the middle of the week isn't doable. A weekend game moderately close I probably would try to arrange to make it to.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would rather go to Detroit.  I feel that it's likely we get a return trip to Mobile, though.  I have a feeling Detroit wants Northern Illinois because of demographics and we have been there more recently.  I believe we are the next best option and Mobile has that choice.  I don't really want to go to Mobile this year, but I'll probably go anyway.

Can't got to Detroit the day after Christmas.  Couldn't go last year.  Too many family obligations.

Haven't missed an OU bowl game since my freshman year in '68.  I'll be wherever.

I am selfishly hoping that we will go to the Little Caesars again because that is the only one I can make it to during my shortened stay in the States this time around.

For me as a student, it's about the total cost of the trip. Since we get free tickets, total cost pretty much boils down to travel costs. Last year Detroit was an amazing deal, so I'm hoping to go back there. It was close enough that we didn't need a hotel and the fan buses eliminated tolls and parking costs. I spent like $5 in gas to drive to Parma, another $5 to ride the fan bus to Detroit and $15 on food throughout the day. $25 total to see a bowl game. Any other other game would probably cost me 200x that much when you factor in airfare and hotel and I simply can't afford that now.

I guess the date is a secondary issue for me. I'm free all break and don't really celebrate Christmas so a game the day after isn't an issue, but a game the first week of the quarter is. Even if I had the money I couldn't skip town and head down to Mobile for a game.

Mobile was great and I would love to go back, but Thursday would mean burning 3 or 4 days the first week and pulling JP out of school for the same......just don't see us being able to pull this one off......therefore I'm hoping Boise, Detroit, or Birmingham.

You need to put in an application for a new family.

Like a lot of others, the day after Christmas is just really bad for me this year; going out of town to see the folks.  The Godaddy.com Bowl is a possibility.  The GMAC Bowl in 2007 was a blast!  Dauphne St. in Mobile, or whatever that street name is, reminds me of Court St. but in a more Southern setting.  Good times!

Winning the MAC East means Mobile, regardless of the MACC results.  Done deal.  LCPB definitely wants NIU regardless, and JCW is correct regarding the preferred payout bowl being Boise, regardless of the travel costs/distance.

Mobile was awesome, so what does Mobile plus Danica Patrick equal?  IMHO, that last trip to Mobile made the team feel like they had really achieved something, getting the kings treatment all week, so selfishly I hope they get a return trip versus our other options.  I could do without four inches of rain day of the game, however.

Set your DVR's and plan to make the game Attackers, because those GoDaddy commercials are a-w-f-u-l!

NIU or Ohio if they win out may be invited to matchup with a highly rated non-BCS team. LCPB has the MAC #1 choice this year and will take MAC #2 if they can't take MAC #1. MAC #3 Temple makes no sense in the LCPB that I know. The team travel costs are really not that bad for Boise as they could fly into Denver and take a bus from there.

You have to be kidding me.  It's 840 +/- miles from Denver to Boise by bus.  SW and others fly there from Denver, probably would be the best way to go.  Or charter all the way.

SLC then bus is the process to save cash to Boise.

Mobile was a great trip and a lot of fun except for the rain and the tobacco juice spit on my pants leg by a very drunk So Miss Neanderthal.  Fortunately the rain washed it off. Wouldn't mind another trip there as the city really appreciates the bowl visitors and puts on a great Mardi Gras Parade and other activities. Birmingham might be fun. Can't imagine trying to get to Idaho.

Went to Mobile last time and would go again.  What a great town.  The people down there personify "Southern Hospitality".  Wouldn't go to Detroit the day after Christmas.

I wouldn't mind going back to Mobile, except for the fact that it is now on a weekday.
Why would they shift from their weekend slot?

Mobile was awesome and welcoming.  And the fact that we had the city pretty much to ourselves for 3 days prior to the game was awesome.  Since Southern Mississippi was only 100 miles away, most of their fans just drove in on gameday.

I'm hoping that we turn down Detroit, Mobile, and Boise and take a bid from the Military Bowl (formerly the EagleBank Bowl) in DC.

  • It's not the day after Xmas.
  • It's a mid-week game during a Holiday Week, so most people will already be off work.
  • It's a mid-afternoon game so you could tailgate for several hours prior to the game.
  • It's early enough to make a flight out of DC that evening.
  • It's at a reasonable time for families.
  • And it is as close to Athens as Detroit (5.5 hour drive).

Having done both drives myself on numerous occasions, I can say that Detroit is a significantly easier drive from Athens.  I usually can make it in around 4.5 hours, a full hour less than D.C., not to mention the fact it is less taxing due to the flat roads and relative lack of traffic.

  • And I hear the Alumni Chapter there rocks!

The Military Bowl would be great (except for having to watch it in RFK), but I don't think there will be any at-large openings for this bowl. The matchup is ACC #8 vs CUSA, and there are 9 bowl elegible teams right now from the ACC.
