OK, I'm as upset as all of you about this Golden Egg we just plopped vs. Kent. But at 8-4 aren't we all but guaranteed a bowl at 8-4?

They can't take teams with seven or six wins BEFORE Ohio, so in cases in which there aren't enough teams to participate via tie-ins, we should get an invite.

I know it's iffy to say whether or not we deserve it, I just want to know if this is true...

Dejected...

Nothing is guaranteed at this point.  Most everybody says 71 teams will be eligible, I think a few more.  Th ereal question is would anybody go aftert this beatdown?

Don't think there's any rule about 8-win teams getting priority over 7-win teams.  Will be very interesting to see what happens.

It would be a waste of money for us to accept a bowl bid playing like this.

Why would a bowl choose us over Toledo or Temple? We might be lucky to be the 5th MAC team selected, if at all.

Guys I don't want this team to be humiliated either - it can't get any worse than today.

There are 64 bowl eligible teams - including us. The rest of the 20 that can become eligible are 4*6 or 5*6 and have to wait until this or next weekend to determine their eligibility.

So, the majority of these clubs will be 6-6. In other words, I think Ohio is still going to a bowl. Whether they deserve it or not is beside the point. I agree, however, that the two other MAC teams, Toledo and Temple will get the 3rd and 4th bowl opportunities.

Wow, I hope we stay closer to Kansas tonight.

6-6 is now good enough to fill conference tie ins.

Toledo is better than us.
Temple has a market advantage.

Ohio is done.

I am dog-piling on my own post...

Could you imagine what NIU could have done to us next week? And I thought continually losing to CMU was bad.

FYI ... there is no more distinction between 6-6 and 7-5 anymore.

That's right.  A bowl can now fill an open slot with a 6-6 team over a team with a winning record.  There are now 67 bowl eligible teams, and unfortunately there are still plenty of maybe more desireable -- from an attendance and ratings standpoint -- teams that could get to 6-6: Tennessee (will likely beat Vandy); Georgia (plays Georgia Tech); Cincy (UConn and Pitt); Houston (Texas Tech); Cal (Washington); Washington (Cal and Wash St); and Oregon State (Stanford and Oregon).  In addition, there are five Sun Belt teams and two WAC teams (La Tech and Idaho) that could still get to six wins.  The Cats could still get locked out, but it was good that Texas and Colorado both lost this weekend.

and as jason arkey points out in a tweet, whatever bowl game might invite us, it would probably result in a financial loss, something the university might have to take into account in deciding whether to accept the invitation.

For a program with four bowl appearances ever, I can't imagine we would turn down ANY bowl opportunity, no matter the cost.  What's the goal, if not to play in bowl games and be on TV?  If we don't aspire to playing in bowls and winning them, why have football?

I want a bowl game!  If it means a financial loss, take the loss.  There are intangible benefits -- exposure, extra practices, maybe THE FIRST BOWL WIN IN SCHOOL HISTORY -- that can offset that.

I'm disappointed about today, too... and was there in the 31-degree weather... but let's not pull the plug on this program.  If you pull the plug, pull it all the way and just drop football.  But if you're going to be an FBS program, go bowling.

Saw both McDavis and Schaus at the VB match this evening.  I wonder if Jason has interviewed them yet on this because it's certainly going to be the center of speculation in The Messenger and A News articles this week.  Another $250,000 expense/loss will be very hard to justify with major cuts coming in the next 12 months including the possibility of furloughs.

Agreed!   If Ohio's going to turn down a bowl bid because it will lose money, then go all the way and either drop football altogether or at a minimum drop to FCS.  I mean, why did we just bother with the past 12 games?  If Ohio turns down a bid, the past 12 games were just an absolute waste of time and emotional involvement in my opinion.

I'll guaranty IF we get a bowl bid, we won't turn it down.  Also, now that we are possibly free from the MAC automatic tie in bowls, we might get a bowl that actually pays something.  Additionally, I don't think we are completely out of the running for the Blue Smurf Turf bowl.  Oxford Tech and NIU will probably go to either the Go Daddy or the Hot and Ready Pizza.  That leaves UT, Ohio and Temple to compete for the Idaho Blue Potato hot potato bowl.  i really think we might get the nod for this bowl.  And, as previously reported, this bowl actually pays enough to cover travel expenses.  Don't give up the ship and stay tuned.  This season may not be over after all . . .

Bowls are not obligated to give a full payout to teams that don't have tie-ins.  Ask NIU.

The MAC does have a tie-in with the Smurf Turf Bowl.
