Another Temple lovefest. 8 1st team selections compared to a combined 2 for the two teams that drilled them when it counted, Miami and us. NIU had 5.

Congrats to Flading for his 1st team honor and to #79(weak link!!)for his 2nd team selection!

As most predicted, the Bobcats were ripped off big time.
First team:
OL Joe Flading
Second team:
OL A.J. Strum
TE Jordan Thompson
DL Stafford Gatling
DB Steven Jackson
DB Donovan Fletcher
Third team:
WR Terrence McCrae

One pick of 29 on the first team? That is ridiculous.

All league teams are always interesting.  Some folks vote using statistics as their measuring stick and if that is the case here, the statistics don't lie:

http://www.nmnathletics.com/fls/9400/Stats/2010FB/confldr...

Some folks base it on "viewed performance" and some on a combination of factors.  Having voted many times, some folks are truly objective and some are pretty political.  Based on the statistics alone, we got a pretty fair representation on the team.

I think statistics play a big part in it. Ohio didn't have many standout guys statistically because it was a team effort. As a team, though, the Bobcats were third in the league in offense and third in defense.

And still, some statistics were ignored. Boo Jackson was third in passing efficiency and Dysert was fourth (and not as good of a runner and missed two games) and yet Dysert was a second-team pick and Jackson was not picked at all.

Paul Hershey was third in the MAC in punting and whe you factor in the other things he did, I don't know how he could not be picked as one of the top three punters, but he wasn't.

Julian Posey was fourth in the league in passes defended and not on the list anywhere.

Terrence McCrae was third in the MAC in receiving touchdowns, and eight receivers were picked ahead of him. Sure, he didn't make as many catches and yards as some guys, but his other numbers were pretty even to some of the second-team guys (who had far less touchdowns than McCrae).

For what it's worth, Miami also got ripped off with only one first-team pick overall. Temple had eight. The Owls had more first-team picks than Ohio had overall.

If the stats don't lie then explain to me how:

Pierce is a first team RB but ranks 5th in actual rushing... much like the rest of Temple, he's all-hype... The only reason he's first team is because he was a "Heisman Candidate" (what a joke) to start the season... oh look, pierce4heisman.com is still up!  Call me when you can complete a season...

Adiran Robinson is a first team All-MAC LB but he doesn't even register in the TOP 50 in tackles!?  All I can find on that page is that he forced and recovered two fumbles... congrats...

Jarrett only has 5 more tackles than Fletcher and doesn't even register on the interception list and yet he's first team over Donovan!?  How!?

Elisha Joseph had 44 tackles AND ONLY 1 FOR A LOSS AND NO SACKS!!!  How the hell is that a 1st team performance?   Stafford had 49 tackles, 13.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks and he's second team behind this joker?

I could go on... I'm not saying that Ohio should have had 8 All-MAC awards, but why does the MAC even bother doing this if they're going to be this screwed up...

A team that places 3rd in their division has absolutely no business placing 8 guys on the first team... They lost 3 conference games by BLOWOUT.... if this league considers potential to be more important than production then why the hell aren't we in Detroit right now?

Take the votes away from the coaches... they obviously have no idea what they're doing...

I'm so sick of this joke of a conference...

There should be a rule that votes for players on teams that are only in the conference for that particular sport only count as half a vote. If you want to be all-conference MAC, then join all of the MAC conference.

Does it come down to laziness or stupidity or both? Williamson and Hodge not even mentioned? Ask ten MAC DB's if they would rather cover the first and second team wr's or T-Mac one-on-one. I think we know what there answer would be. I think they pick up a pre-season All-Mac prediction list and basically copy it. It's a crime. No Eric Herman? Jokers.

Jokers, I like that.  These comments remind of a study I saw not too long ago.  When polled, the American public overwhelming said that Congress was broken.  In the same poll, those same Americans gave their respective Congressman a thumbs up.  So the question is, who are the jokers in the MAC poll of coaches?

Who does vote on All-MAC? It specifies that the coaches vote for the Vern Smith award and MAC news media vote on the other awards, but I don't know if that includes the All-MAC teams.

Also here is a paragraph from the story:

Temple led the way with eight first team selections, followed by Northern Illinois with six first team selections.  Overall, Northern Illinois set the pace with 13 honorees, followed by Temple with 11 honorees, while Central Michigan and Kent State had nine total selections and Miami added eight total selections.

Makes sense that NIU has the most players honored. It doesn't make sense for Temple to have the second-most, but the Owls were a good team who should have a lot. What is completely out of place is Central Michigan and Kent State tied for third-most! Two sub-.500 teams!

Is it the coaches alone that vote? I didn't find anything in the release that states that only that they vote for the leadership award.
It's comments like yours in reference to my innocent post that reminds me of a study that I conducted based on the fact that we would have a wider variety of posts and posters if every single post wasn't analyzed and somehow picked apart. Thanks Alan.

Seems every step the player take can be picked apart, so it is only right the same apply to annonomous posters.

Not sure what you're getting at here Valley.  Are you saying because posts are analyzed and then complemented or criticized that more people don't post?  That's hard to believe considering anyone can post under any name they choose and thus remain anonymous to the readers of this board.  It seems to me if we had to use our names we would have a narrower variety of posts and posters.

As for my comment about Congress and our representatives, a similar study was done on schools.  Most people believe that their local school is doing a good job while the majority of Americans claim that our educational system is broken.  I'm still trying to figure out how that can be but that is the great mystery of polls.

Anyway, sorry if I offended you.
