Hey guys. I haven't posted on here for a few weeks but believe me, I've been keeping an eye on the Cats. I have been lucky enough to get two games on TV this season and have loved every minute of it! Friday was a nightmare, but lets not look backward. After starting 1-3, I'd say an 8-4 season is pretty dang sweet.

Now on to my main topic. Those of you who have read some of my posts before know I'm a Utah fan through and through. The Utes finished their season yesterday with an epic rivalry game victory against BYU in which Utah blocked a 42yd field goal as time expired to preserve a 17-16 win over the kewgers. That was one of those games that I'll never forget.

Anyway, Utah finished the season 10-2 with losses to #3 TCU (47-7 a**-kicking), and @ Notre Dame (28-3 the week after TCU, major let-down game). Utah started the season VERY hot with the top scoring offense in the country averaging over 50 points per game. But then things went wrong. Only 7 points were scored against TCU, and then only 3 were scored against Notre Dame giving the Utes just 10 points over two weeks. Yesterdays win against BYU saw the Utes held scoreless until the 4th quarter when two BYU turnovers in their own territory ended in Utah touchdowns. Utah is a mess right now offensively, but still managed to win 10 games which is always a successful season.

Man, I have a bad habit of getting off topic, sorry. This is why I wanted to post here. Obviously I've had my ear to the ground listening for rumors of where the Utes are going bowling. The Mountain West Conference's champion is contracted to go to the Vegas bowl to play the #5 Pac-10 team. This year, TCU is the #1 MWC team and is headed to the BCS. Utah, MWC #2 at 7-1 in conference is now slotted to take their place in Vegas. The Pac-10 does not have enough bowl eligible teams this year, so they are forfeiting their spot opposite Utah in the Vegas Bowl, and all rumor and local media reports around Salt Lake City have Utah playing either Temple or THE OHIO BOBCATS in the Vegas bowl opposite my Utah Utes. Obviously I'm hoping beyond hope that Ohio gets the nod because it may be a few years before I get out to Athens to catch a game at Peden.

I will be on this board often keeping you guys up to date on what I hear here in SLC. Utah currently owns the nations longest bowl winning streak at 9-straight bowl wins. In that streak Utah has won 2 BCS games, has beaten teams like USC, Pitt, Georgia Tech, and Alabama. But I'm telling you guys Utah is beatable this year. We have MAJOR flaws on offense and on defense and we are ripe for an upset. Of the possibilities that I've seen out there (Nevada, Boise among others) Utah is by far your best choice. There is a great chance of an upset over a big name team in a very nice bowl game.

Go UTES!! And GO CATS!!

Interesting...I hadn't heard that possibility yet, but it makes sense.  Should we meet again, I would bet your wins treak will reach 10.

Just curious...what ties you have to OU and why you're considered a closet fan?

Interesting potential scenario.  We've said it here before, but because our bowl tie-ins for the conference are so poor, we may actually be better off going at-large, having lost at Kent, sad and backward as that seems.

On a side note, what are your thoughts about TCU heading off to the Big East?  Looks like Boise is going to be really left behind in the MWC now.

Personally I'd much rather see Ohio in the Vegas bowl than any other third world bowl that the MAC has tie ins to. Let's be honest other than die hard fans of the teams in the bowl and degenerate gamblers no one is making time on the day after Christmas or after all but the National Championship game are over with to watch the Little Ceasers Bowl or the Hunger bowl. However the Vegas bowl falls right when the bowl games are starting to pick up. Much more of a chance to have a better audience, not to mention more fans might be willing to go given that it falls during the Holiday travel period without being right on or the day after a holiday.

I think Vegas and Sun are the two most likely possibilities, now that Boise is no longer BCS material.  Either game would be great.  Toledo and Temps will probably flip-flop with Boise and Nevada between the Blue Field and the baseball field bowls.  If Boise plays at home, they play Temps there (since Boise played Toledo this year); if Nevada gets the Blue Field, they'll play Toledo and Boise-Temps go to SF.

We will get by.

We will survive.

He stated in the first thread he posted in that he happened to catch the OU v Pitt game on Espn 2 in 05 and has followed us ever since.

Other then that, no real connection to OU that I remember him stating.

I wasn't able to make the trip to Las Vegas to catch the basketball game but would definitely go for the Vegas Bowl.  I emailed Tina Kunzer-Murphy (Executive Director of the LV Bowl) and told her that her Committee should select OU.  I actually worked with Tina from 1992 to about 2002 at the LV Bowl.  I was either on the stat crew or worked with the talent in the TV booth.  I also helped her put together the NCAA basketball championship parade in 1990 after we beat Duke by 30.  So what kind of clout do I have - absolutely none.  But she will chuckle with the email and may even take a second or two to answer.  She won't give up the goods, but it will be cordial, and a hope to see you no matter who we pick kind of reply.

So I am really hoping for a Vegas invite.  Maybe I can get a seat in the press box - it can get cold in Vegas in December.

Hope we get Vegas, it's my home town.  Born and raised, UNLV alumni.  The football stadium is outdoors.  The cold is dry and feels a lot colder than the midwest... beware of the wind.  My brother said the city treats the boys well.. parade down the strip and lots of TV coverage.  I am hopeful to go... I just found out the stadium is home to the Las Vegas sports hall of fame... in one of the tunnels is a picture of my father... one of the first inductees for coaching a state championship high school team back in the 60's when I was a pup  (and there were only two high schools then BTW and only one shopping mall)  Times have changed.  Lots of family and friends there hoping to see us... family also lives in Salt Lake and would certainly make the trip.  The game will 100% be sold out.  A fitting end for my son's Ohio career.
