and on 3rd and 2 we hand it to Davidson for a loss of 1.

This offense is a joke. We used smoke and mirrors to score 30 points against the dregs of college football. This is absolute garbage.

Trust me, no one else on this board is any more frustrated, angry, PO'ed right now than yours truly. But if you stand away from all of that for a few seconds, maybe you'll find another perspective that isn't merely lashing out ...
  1. Give some credit to Kent State's defense; in fact, give a LOT of credit to their defense. This is what we expected to see last week at Temple!
  2. Accept the fact that given the difficulties this year's 'Cats have faced from the get-go, they aren't a championship-caliber team. I'm referring primarily to injuries but also hinting at other issues affecting the roster.
  3. Appreciate the fact that despite that, OUr 'Cats made it interesting until the final weekend!
Still, losing is never fun

You bet. I've kept my mouth shut on this inept offense all year. I don't give a darn how many teams they stacked 30+ on this year. They looked like poop doing it. How many times are you going to try to run up the middle, and up the middle EXCLUSIVELY, when Kents front 4 are whooping your butt all day? So the solution is to KEEP BOO IN THE POCKET to throw? Pathetic. Pee poor.  This offense has been completely incapaple of putting together a game plan, or making ANY adjustments. It appears to me, they look at what has worked, and then don't do that. Do anything but that. "Bates running the football worked last week? Dont do that. Forget  Bates. He ran well last week, why would we do it again?" We started Bates as qb at the beginning of the season, he couldn't hit the broad side of the barn. Four games later...Oh, he can run! How can we screw this up? Oh, I know, lets leave him off the field altogether.
I want a public apology. and butts.

To all of you who are going to flame me, go ahead. You're wrong, and I know you know you are wrong.

Love,
Bob

Good game Kent. Looks like you've got some great players returning on D to build a team around.

IF we get a bowl game, it's Phil's turn to lead this team.  No excuse for one person turning the ball over 4 times and sacked 6 times.  I'm well aware Phil is not that great of a passer, but since we don't pass to begin with, why not have him out there?

You'd figure with a senior qb that he would get more say in the playcalling, i.e. no huddle, rather than looking at the sideline for the play and allowing precious time to come off the clock and allowing the defense to set up.

It's a damn shame that the football team lost, because realistically this was our only chance at a win today.

You want to throw an injured QB out there, by all means, go ahead.

He's injured?  That's news to me.

I guess that would explain his lack of playing time today.

We do need better play calling and a new QB. Offensive line was terrible as well and needs to be upgraded. They looked ok in the MAC, but in out of conference they looked terrible.

This thread is just plain DUMB. Give Coach Albin and the rest of the staff some credit. We had several major injuries on both side of the ball this year and turned the season around after the Marshall game. Boo Jackson has won SEVERAL GAMES this year and lord knows how many in his short career here at Ohio THANK YOU BOO...Phil Bates may develop but he is not ready. Kyle Snyder is not ready and who knows if he ever will be. Tyler Tettelton was redshirted for a reason. Coach Tim Albin did the best he could with what he had. None of our WR are game breakers ala Lavon Brazil so to go deep more often than not would result in an incompletion or INT. McCrae,Dunlop and Goulet are guys that are good at the things the do well and none are stretching the field. The offensive line overall laid an EGG Today but these guys sucked it up and had several underclassmen step up this year after injuries. We are missing 3 amazing all MAC players. And after this happend the coaches and players stepped it up and FOUND WAYS TO WIN THE BALL GAMES. This did not happen today..Kent state was prepared ..they had several weeks of film to figure out OHIO and they stopped us...Dont throw the players or the coaches under the bus because of one bad game.. the FUTURE IS BRIGHT. So all you message board couch critics stfu.

While I may not agree with the title of this thread I will say this...

After six years, we have yet to recruit and have a four year QB.  Next year, this spot looks wide open.

We were dominated at the O-line of scrimmage.  We still need MORE bigger and stronger linemen.

I do agree the play calling seemed strange.  I think it was 21-6 and we ran three dives into the line for nothing?  Never went down field (I guess because of the weather?).

Bottom line is still the difference between winning and losing in the MAC is very small.  We all recruit mostly the same kids and nobody gets enough of them to be dominate over a long period of time.  While I like our progress, I just don't think we'll ever get much better than where we are now.

I keep hearing how difficult it is to recruit. Is it really that difficult to recruit a couple road grader type running backs? Seriously? Since Kalvin graduated we have been without a serious running game.

If they weren't going through the motions, it sure looked like it.  This was a completely uninspired effort by the Cats today, from the coaching staff through the players.. When you're playing a game for all the marbles against a team that has nothing to lose, you don't leave half your playbook at home.  But that's what the coaching staff did.  The playcalling was predictable and unimaginative.  There were few misdirections and no WR options, and very few downfield passes, not even with the wind.  The execution by the offense was lackadasical and sloppy.  Special teams had two bright points -- Weller's 51 yarder and Carrie's return early in the 3rd -- but otherwise was listless.  If they had rushed Kent's punt early in the fourth, they might've had the ball near midfield instead of inside the five.  Even Hershey made a bad decision with the faked punt inside the 20.  The defense played as well as could be expected, given that they were defending short fields most of the day.

I don't buy the argument that this isn't a championship caliber team.  You can't convince me that Fiami is any better.  Maybe they were just tired of going to Motown, since they were there twice last year.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Completely ignorant, and written by someone that would write something in all boldface italics.

Nobody brought up the recruiting challenges and the drinking/OSU issues during the last 2 MAC East titles. Why now?

Jackass.
