Rivals almost declared our bowl to be the worst in the nation, instead we will have to be content with 2nd worst, Miami's is 3rd worst, and Toledo is 4th worst.  Quite an accomplishment by the MAC.

Same results every year. It is an indictment of the conference, not the teams.

And all of the rest of the teams in the nation not going to any bowl would trade us places in a heartbeat, worst bowl, next to worst bowl, any bowl, period.

Ah whatever. Easy bowls to pick on, sure. But for any that keep up with the MAC bowls, remember they're known to have a lot of shootouts, and can be much more exciting than bigger name bowls.

Last year we were in the worst.  If we keep this up, we'll be playing for the championship in 48 more years.

Don't you just have the feeling, though, that the NO bowl is the city's way of warming up the engines for the Sugar?  I'm not complaining but i do doubt that we'll have anybody's full attention.  That wasn't the case in Mobile - a great experience I thought, no matter what Rivals thinks.

Just over here shaking my head.

If this is where everyone wants to be year after year....man, I'm just in the wrong place.

Playing bad schedules, backing our way into bad bowl games, and hoping to knock off a Sun Belt Team?

I seriously hope everyone has a great time in New Orleans, but I just can't support this. To me, this is just conceding that we're marginal, and aspire to be nothing more. Celebrating this mediocrity just isn't in my genes, so I'll leave it to the rest of you.

My heart went out to Mr. Schaus on the preview video...trying to pretend like this is something we should all be excited about. Honestly, I felt bad for the man, as you could see it in his body language and tone of voice..."I'm beaten. The system. The schedule. The Conference. I'm just a beaten man, so I took whatever scraps I could"

It's just a sad day in the world of Bobcat Football when hoping to beat Troy in the R&L Bowl is worthy of celebration and glee on bobcatattack.

The New Orleans bowl is not affilated with the MAC as primary or secondary tie-in. This is a unique opportunity for the Bobcats and we should be happy for that reason alone. This is the best bowl game Ohio has been to under Frank Solich.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Say there Love.  You got to walk before you can run.  What was Bobcat football say from the year 1968 to five years before now other than a near partial birth abortion?  Generations of Bobcat students have "0" thought for or of Bobcat Football.  When friends tried to get friends to the GMAC there was little alumni interest with most not even knowing the Bobcats were bowling and then excuses for not wanting to go to Detroit on the day after Christmas.

This time now that the Bobcats are becoming consistent there are a "few" more interested in the Bobcats going to New Orleans, perhaps because they are seeing a trend.  It may take 10 years or more of the current students seeing winning records for there to be general excitement for football.  Probably the same at IU or Minnesota with lost generations of fans and those schools play the big boys and yet basketball or hockey are fan favorites with little thought for football.

Build a winner and they may come.  I have two in the 110 and they are extremely excited for the opportunity to go to any bowl game and thankful the team gave them the opportunity.  Think about the interest of undergrads and not as a distinguished fan with desires of your own.  Don't be like so many Americans in seek of instant gratification.  Instant success without putting in the foundation.  Part of the entitlement generation. We had nothing several years ago, now we have something--what direction are we going from here? To higher achievements, mediocrity or back to the lost years?  The rants should be directed at the ghosts who roam the Convo offices.

The thing that scares me is looking at Miami with Big Ben and then the dismal years after--they totally lost their student body to football as witnessed by their turnout for Homecoming vs the Bobcats on a beautiful day in October.  You cannot stumble, you cannot go more than a year without being at the top of the league or you'll lose interest.  Now that we are consistently winning, as others have said, it is now time to win a bowl game.  Then continue to aspire to greater improvement of coaches, talent and skill levels and building a fan following that creates lifetime Bobcat Fans.

Love, I don't know about you but I am actually pretty excited for this game, other than NIU no MAC team got a name brand opponent and no one is playing a BCS conference team.  So compared to the other two bowls we missed out on I am very happy that we will have a competitive game in a real bowl location.  Truthfully if we didn't get to New Orleans or Las Vegas I probably wasn't going to make a bowl trip, money is pretty tight.  But the opportunity to see OUr Bobcats play in the Superdome is making me find a way to make it all work.

Love, there are a number of places where you continually err.  How is accepting the invite "conceding that we are marginal?"  We made a bowl.  Did we "deserve" it?  Based on how they hand out invites like candy, yes.  Go ahead and dislike the process - you can get in line behind me.  But to apply that anyone that is excited/pleased with getting an invite to New Orleans is embracing mediocrity and/or lacking an aspiration to get better makes no sense at all.

And finally, it is not about you and never will be.  As you admit, it is about the student athletes.  I am sure the players wanted to go to the bowl.  I am also sure they do not see it as sign of mediocrity and certainly aspire to do better.  Congrats to them for making a bowl.  While many teams did, most did not.

And Hell.  it sure beats Boise in the winter.

Everyone thinks I am ripping on our players...couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm saying that if we played "name" teams more often, instead of just money games on the road - our guys would hold their own just fine. I think it cheats the players and the fan base to continue this dull climb to the middle of the pack via awful scheduling and third rate bowl appearances.

The players can play with a lot of teams in this country, but we continually refuse to allow them the chance. That's what angers me about all this. If the players beat the "name" teams it's better for all of us. More interest, more revenue, more fan support, more merchandise...but again, Norfolk State is right up there with the best of 'em.

That's fine if you want to criticize the opponents we choose to schedule, but we had little/no say in the bowls.  Really, this is the best we can do.  And considering the quality of the program, there's nothing wrong with celebrating it.  Getting to the middle of the pack is cause for celebration given the history of Ohio football.  That doesn't mean people want to stay there, it's a recognition of where the program has been and the progress that has been made.  Your criticism is even further off target given the nature of bowl matchups.  Unless Ohio breaks through to the BCS, which is improbable to the point of impossibility, this is really about the best we're going to get.  I imagine people will take this over nothing, so what would you have them do?  Choose to be unhappy?  What kind of choice is that?

I know you are not ripping the players - reread my post, I specifically make that note.  We know you hate the schedule.  I agree we should be playing a money game, lower BCS (home and home), a parallel team, and fill in the blank.  But you need to stop equating the schedule with where we go bowling.  They have very little connection.  Look at Central Michigan over the past few years.  Held their own against some BCS conference teams - even beat Mich St., won the MAC, had a name player.  And look at their reward:  trips to Detroit for bowls and a trip to Mobile to play....Troy.  Keep your rant about the schedule, but leave the bowl appearances out of your argument - they don't support it.

Damn straight! Well said! With a 24,000 seat stadium, we'll never get the BIG BOYS to do a home-home series. We're stuck with the money games on the road vs. them. Now if we could play one of them tough on the road, or upset one of them and go 10-2, we might actually get a BCS opponent in a bowl. I think we are getting closer and closer. I think that, if Frank sticks around for a few more years, it will happen. In the meantime, enjoy the ride and support OUr FB program. I'm enjoying the renaissance. Win OUr first bowl in how many years, and then look forward to the return of Keller, Brazill, Moore and the rest of the team. Could next year be the best ever?
