Wow.

http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2010/12/09/jim-delany-warns-non-aq-leagues-dont-expect-more-than-youre/

I wonder if we are allowed to watch the games on TV?  Or is that also forbidden.

Eh I kind of understand it, think of the lack of access in the past compared to now.  Something is better than nothing and these conference commissioners are basically running big conglomerates and all they see is how they are giving up money to teams with inferior conferences and tradition.  Eventually anyone that is really good will be gobbled up into the Big 6 so as to keep the status quo.

more comments like this will just hasten the calls from Congress, and everyone else for a playoff...

What a an arrogant ass..you'll like taking our table scraps and keep your mouth shut, or we'll take our ball and go home...

This from the Commissioner of the Big 3 (and nine dwarfs) conference, (or sisters of the poor)

I'm telling you, there needs to be an all out embargo by the Non-AQ teams.

I want all the Non-AQ teams to cancel their pending contract games with the BCS schools ASAP and just schedule within themselves.

Let's see how Ohio State feels when they can't make money from 4 non conference home games every year, and are forced to go on the road 2, maybe 3 times to play non conference games against opponents they could very easily lose to.

There's only so many Duke's, Vanderbilt's and Syracuse's to go around. I'm guessing Delaney wouldn't be too happy in years where his Big 10 teams become the bottom feeders of college football b/c they couldn't win multiple non conference games on the road at the clip of the SEC and Pac 10.

If anyone had the balls to make the move, this is how you throw the gauntlet down and create access and equality. You hit them where it hurts most - the pocketbook. Call it collusion, Call it dirty pool, I call it a solution.

We probably shouldn't worry about access to the BCS events just yet; we're still trying to win the MAC for the first time since 1968!

I'm not going to lie, that is the smartest thing I've heard you say all season...even better I love the idea.

That's probably where the fBS is heading anyway.  They talk about a playoff but they'll make it damn near impossible for nonAQ schools to get in.  Remember, these are the same guys who run the NCAA basketball tournament and instead of meaningfully expanding the big dance, they created three smaller dances as a bone for the non-Big 6 schools.  Even so, the fields have large Big 6 representation.  For football, they'll likely need to play more AQ schools in order to keep their BcS ratings up.  Then when the playoff comes around, nonAQ schools will be left out, with maybe a few more small-time bowl games thrown in to keep them quiet.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

I'm not saying I'm against it, but a lot of non-AQ teams are working on a patronage system.  They depend on the checks from body bags games to fund their athletic departments.  What AD is willing to throw their school in a bigger financial hole and probably lose his job to make a stand?

Chuck from Miami's board with an interesting take: "The AQ schools wouldn't care. They'd just play 1-AAs instead, and rewrite the rules to allow it (since, in this scenario, the non-AQs wouldn't be in the NCAA any more).

In fact, even if non-AQ schools didn't leave the NCAA, the AQ schools (which outnumber non-AQs about 70 to 50 in I-A) could probably vote in such a change anyway."

We're going to have a tough time ridding ourselves of all those no-conf games you hate in favor of "name" teams if we do that aren't we?

In order to fix the system, you would have to sacrifice a few years of playing SMU, Houston, Memphis, and others. Personally, I could live with it.

They are modern-day street thugs.

They rig the system to their benefit and can demand anything they want from their fans. Ten bucks for a program? Sure! Seventy-five bucks for a seat? Yep! One hundred eighty grand for the starting quarterback? We can do that!

They've turned college football into something I can barely watch any more. The only enjoyment I get out of it is watching Ohio and rooting for Boise and TCU to overturn the apple cart. And now TCU has been swallowed into the ooze.

The only alternative is to create another sub-division with mutually agreed rules on spending and on academic standards for programs. Basically turn all the non-AQ's into the Ivy League style of football and leave the pigs to wallow in their mud.

A college football disarmament treaty. A rededication to the notion of amateur athletics. Refusing to be a part of a system stacked against everyone but a handful of team

That would take a principled response by college presidents to the farce that is major college football, however.

I'm not holding my breath.

These BCS think; like the Wall Streeters, that they are infallible.  They'll hang themselves with their own words.

And this is coming from the CFO of a multinational, multi-million dollar business?????

As for rules and who they benefit, this is as old as history it's self, those who make the rules benefit the most from them.

Reminds me of the CEO of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac who got a $90 million bonus and a new cabinet position for for his great work driving the federal mortgage business in the ground.  A lot of parallels to the BCS only I doubt NCAA president Mark Emmert will get such a bonus or reward when the BCS smoke finally clears.

"I think the conferences should be allowed to have three bids," Delany said. "If the SEC has three teams in the top eight, the bowl system would be well served, the public would be well served. But that comes at a cost to something else. Mike (Slive) and I could suggest -- I would support Mike's motion, but we can't get a third vote."

Thanks for speaking for me Jimbo...I really appreciate not having to put any effort into free thinking...It can be quite taxing...

Just take a look at what a stranglehold the Big Tenelve has on the conference SOS rankings...I mean they're more than half a point over the powerhouse that is the Big East and a full 2 points better than the conference that has the audacity to think the Non AQ should have more of a voice.

It's called true parity Jim...And the fact that it frightens you doesn't mean it's not what's best for the game.
