Knew getting on Bobcatattack after the loss to Troy would be entertaining,  Cussing and carrying on like I've never seen,  I'm upset just as much as anyone over the loss to Troy and the performance of OUr team,  Then I took a Deep Breath and took a Step Back and remembered when :

Ohio Football Records we're.

2002 :  4 & 8  -   4 & 4 in the MAC

2004 :  4 & 7   -  2 & 6 in the MAC

Look how far we have come this decade, are we there yet NO, but we're getting there. Sure there is going to be ups and downs,  but that's life,  but it's not the end of the world.  Stay the Course and in the end it will all work out.  Everyone will see that if Ohio gets their Indoor Practice Facility built,  how it will help out with landing better recruits. Believe it or not,  Ohio has lost out on some good recruits for not having an Indoor Practice Facility . The Future is looking up, just gotta keep plugging along and in the end we will get there.

Now come on Dennis, let's take a little longer look back.  I consider Brian Knorr a friend as I do Billy Hahn.  But in their careers, they were in head jobs a little early and under less than satisfactory conditions.  That said, in the five years from 96 - 01, we were 31 - 25 at a .533 winning percentage.  According to the numbers you cited, from 06-10 we were also at a .533 winning percentage.  The difference is that we spent way more money the last five years and didn't play nearly the competition in conference or out.  Love will love this - from 96 - 00 we played Hawai'i, Army, Northwestern, Maryland, Kansas State at #20, NC State, Wisconsin at #17, ECU, Minnesota twice, OSU at #12, and Iowa State.

I'm pretty sure if you lined up Ohio's OOC foes from the past five years you'd see plenty of tough competition too.  Rutgers when they had a Cinderella season, Missouri, OSU twice including this year's excellent team, Illinois (whom Ohio beat), etc.

Plus, recall how the Grobe years ended.  Grobe left and the wins went with him.  By contrast, there are lots of reasons to believe that an FS-led Ohio can continue to gradually improve for another 3-5 years, bringing MAC championships and bowl wins.  This continuity is important.  Of the top five teams in the MAC, three are turning over their coaching staffs this year, and it will hurt them (Ohio and Toledo are the other two).

I don't think there is anyone that would disagree that if Grobe had stayed, the program would have continued to build from 2001 onward. I think everyone also would agree that costs nationwide for football have risen dramatically since 2000. I don't have specific numbers, but my guess is that they have doubled in that time. On the revenue side, "money game" payouts have doubled, too, but other sources such as ticket revenue, have no doubt not kept pace. I don't know that Ohio's costs have risen any faster than the national average, but perhaps others here can answer that question. I know that Ohio is probably middle-of-the-pack in the MAC in terms of spending.

Alan, how did Billy Hahn come in "with less than satisfactory conditions"? He had Dave Jamerson and Snoopy Graham on his squad!

Regarding this bowl loss, Troy has an awesome team. You could see it from the start of the game. If we had started Boo Jackson things may have been a little different, but not much. Troy had superior talent and speed. We have nothing to be ashamed of.

Getting back to Hahn, he proved through stints with Ohio and LaSalle that he was a career assistant.

When Danny left, he left a bench that included himself, Billy and Franny.  Who did Billy have, the former fellow who delivered pizzas at the summer camps.  When Grobe left, who did Brian have?  No one.  In both cases the supporting coaching staff was very thin.  That's what I was getting at by "less than satisfactory conditions."

Two NBA players on the same MAC roster and the team finished dead last.  One a near NBA lottery pick and the other a long time NBA veteran on the same team.  The only time in MAC history that ever happened and clearly the single worst coaching job in MAC history.

Amen! When you get hired as a head coach, you have the ability to bring on your own coaches. If he had "guys who delivered pizza last year" it was his own fault.
